In the field of education research, mixed methods have traditionally referred to the combination of quantitative and qualitative data that brings us closer to ‘reality’. However, recent literature on social and educational studies has increasingly incorporated works that integrate digital technologies and mixed methods. This novelty provides an opportunity to re-examine original contributions in the field, particularly in relation to educational innovation. Therefore, the objective of this article is to analyze the characteristics and the trends of new contributions from researchers in education. To achieve this, we carried out a systematic literature review (SLR) of 311 articles published from January 2010 to January 2020 in the Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus databases. We worked with nine questions that explored three key themes: characteristics, technologies and designs within the realm of educational innovation. The validation for this analysis was achieved using a criterion adopted by scholars at York University, which incorporates: inclusion and exclusion, relevance and description of data, as well as peer review in the analysis. Our findings indicate that networks of co-terms, identification of educational innovations and the types of designs -currently applied in educational innovation- as well as the adoption of a mixed-method approach seem to be much better suited to underpin the required combination of strategies and processes that are interwoven in order to address the complexity of the education phenomenon in our times. En el ámbito de la investigación, los métodos mixtos usan combinadamente datos cuantitativos y cualitativos para un acercamiento con la «realidad». En la literatura reciente de los estudios sociales y educativos, se ubica un crecimiento de publicaciones que integran tecnologías digitales y métodos mixtos y, con ello, se presenta la oportunidad de generar un aporte original de posibilidades para investigar la innovación educativa. El objetivo de este artículo fue analizar las características de estos estudios y las tendencias de nuevas contribuciones para la educación. Para lograrlo se realizó una revisión sistemática de literatura (SLR) de 311 artículos publicados, de enero 2010 a enero 2020, en las bases de datos Web of Science (WoS) y Scopus. Se trabajó con nueve preguntas que exploraron tres temas: características, tecnologías y diseños con líneas de innovación educativa. La validación se dio con los criterios de la Universidad de York: inclusión y exclusión, pertinencia y descripción de datos, así como evaluación de pares en el análisis. Los hallazgos dan cuenta de redes de co-términos, identificación de innovaciones educativas y tipos de diseños que están siendo trabajados en líneas de investigación de innovación educativa. Se concluye que el enfoque de métodos mixtos aporta con una combinación interceptadas de estrategias y procesos para abordar la complejidad del fenómeno de la educación, con compresión holística, interdisciplinar y cambio en la forma de hacer investigación en nuestros tiempos.

Background: The concept of feedback is central to medical education. There is gradual shift from sandwich feedback to Pendleton feedback which is learner centred. Pragmatic worldview was proposed in this study. Certificate in Medical Teaching (CMT) programme was initiated at King Edward Medical University (KEMU) Lahore since 2019.The study objective was to improve learning outcome. Methods: Mixed Method research design was chosen, out of all mixed method procedures “Convergent parallel mixed method design” was followed collecting simultaneously quantitative and qualitative data, then results were analysed and compared separately. This study was carried out from 01-06-2020 to 31-03-2021 at King Edward Medical University Lahore. Sample size of 43 participants from CMT (Certificate in Medical Teaching) Batch 1 and 2 took part in this study. Doctors from clinical side, demonstrators and personnel of Allied health sciences attended this course. A predesigned proforma designed on google form was sent to each participant via e-mail.. Results: Quantitative data collected was interpreted as percentages and in form of tables and presented as pie charts. Qualitative data collected was analysed by segregating data into codes. Corresponding themes were made of each code and presented in tabular form. Conclusion: On the basis of feedback and mixed method approach, it can be concluded that certificate in medical teaching is a new teaching program at king Edward Medical University Lahore which can serve as basis to start master’s degree at this institution. The article discusses the status of quantitative and qualitative data in economic sciences, as well as methods for transforming data into information and knowledge. Particular attention is devoted to content analysis as a set of methods for aggregating, processing and analyzing qualitative data; its forms (qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods) and uses by economists. Content analysis appears to be particularly suitable for non-orthodox economists because of their refusal to consider price as the only source of economic information. The content analysis of metadata of articles indexed in Web of Science and eLibrary suggests that Russian economists still have insufficient familiarity with the principles of content analysis and their applications to research compared with their Western counterparts. It is argued that the creation of on-line platforms for content analysis and on-line banks of qualitative data may become a trigger for changing this situation.

This paper investigates the issue of the global financial crisis and its impacts on philanthropy and civil society organisations (CSOs) in Malaysia. CSOs are popularly known as non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Malaysia. Financial crisis has caused NGOs in many countries to receive less funding. This situation may threaten and discourage voluntary works. Undoubtedly, these beneficial contributions from the NGOs are needful services to the society. This paper examines the impact of financial crisis through the lens of NGOs and philanthropy activities in Malaysia. It utilises primary and secondary data, employs a mixed method approach, and uses quantitative and qualitative data. While there are many influencing factors in this development, this paper presents several significant aspects in the Malaysian context, including the style and nature of giving, culture, religion, and political pressure. This study attempts to seek potential solutions, pathways and possible approaches beneficial to NGOs and philanthropy activities for their sustainability in facing the financial crisis and its consequences. Experiences and lessons learnt in Malaysia may well be useful and applicable to some extent in other countries.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to gain a nuanced understanding of what employees want from leaders in an organizational crisis context. Design/methodology/approach – The authors use a mixed methods approach to explore employee leadership preferences during organizational crisis and non-crisis times using the Multi Factor Leadership Questionnaire (Avolio and Bass, 2004), and qualitative interviews. The authors also investigate sex roles using the Bem Sex Role Inventory (Bem, 1981). Findings – The mixed method approach reveals some potential limitations in how leadership is typically measured. The qualitative findings highlight employees’ expectations of leaders to take action quickly while simultaneously engaging in continuous communication with employees during crisis. None of the components of transformational leadership encapsulate this notion. Originality/value – The mixed methods approach is novel in the crisis leadership literature. Had the authors relied solely on the quantitative measures, the importance of continuous communication during crisis would not have been apparent. As a result of this approach, the findings suggest that widely used and accepted measures of leadership may not adequately capture leadership in a crisis context. This is timely as it aligns with current literature which questions the way this construct is operationalized (Van Knippenberg and Sitkin, 2013).

In this study, teacher candidates’ attitudes, self-efficacy perceptions towards inclusive education, and their situation towards in-class practices were determined. A total of a hundred thirty three pre-service teachers participated in the research voluntarily. The study was designed according to the parallel mixed methods research in which both quantitative and qualitative data (QUAN + QUAL) were used together. As data collection tools, “Attitude Scale towards Inclusive Education”, “Self-Efficacy Scale for Inclusive Education” and “In-class Practice Scale for Inclusive Education” were used. In addition, during the collection of qualitative data, teacher candidates were asked to complete the statement, “In my opinion, inclusive education is like…. because….” To determine their metaphorical perceptions. When the results of the study were examined, teacher candidates, it was determined that the perceptions of self-efficacy towards inclusive education and the concern for personal equipment differ in terms of various variables. In addition, the participants chose the positive metaphors that they produced for inclusive education. Among these metaphors, respect for differences, acceptance of diversity is expressed as coexistence due to the structure of inclusive education that unites society.

 ABSTRACT Through the Structure and Performance approach, this research aims to analyze the structure and performance of the automotive industry in Indonesia. This research not only aimed to comprehensively analyze both quantitative and qualitative data using mixed method approach, but also explains the correlation between them. The study was conducted in a period of 10 years starting from 2007 to 2016. The result of the analysis shows that: (1) Indonesian automotive industry’s structure is tight oligopoly with the average score of market concentration ratio (CR3) in 2007–2016 is 87,30%, and the average score of MES in 2007–2016 is 71,34%; (3) The performance of the industry is “declining‟ with the ROA average score of Indonesian automotive industry throughout 2007–2016 is  5,97 %; and (4) there is a consistency element in the both research variables, which are structure and performance. It has been proven qualitatively (CR3-ROA is 65,5% & MES-ROA is 67%)  and quantitatively (CR3-MES-ROA is 58,1%). Keywords: Industrial Economy, Structure, Performance, Automotive Industry. ABSTRAK Melalui pendekatan Struktur dan Kinerja, tujuan dari penelitian  ini adalah untuk menganalisis struktur dan kinerja industri otomotif di Indonesia. Penelitian ini tidak hanya bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara komprehensif, baik data kuantitatif dan kualitatif menggunakan pendekatan metode campuran, tetapi juga menjelaskan korelasi di antara mereka. Periode pada penelitian ini adalah 10 tahun mulai 2007 hingga 2016. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Struktur industri otomotif Indonesia adalah oligopoli yang ketat dengan rata-rata nilai rasio konsentrasi pasar (CR3) pada tahun 2007-2016 adalah 87,30%, dan nilai rata-rata MES pada 2007–2016 adalah 71,34%; (3) Kinerja industri “menurun” dengan skor rata-rata ROA industri otomotif Indonesia sepanjang 2007–2016 adalah 5,97%; dan (4) ada elemen konsistensi dalam kedua variabel penelitian, yaitu struktur dan kinerja. Ini telah terbukti secara kualitatif (CR3-ROA adalah 65,5% & MES-ROA adalah 67%) dan secara kuantitatif (CR3-MES-ROA adalah 58,1%). Kata Kunci: Ekonomi Industri, Struktur, Kinerja, Industri Otomotif

A study was conducted to investigate the extent of use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) by urban livestock keepers. This paper discusses the perceptions of small scale livestock keepers towards the use of different types of ICTs in accessing livestock information. Mixed method approach was used whereby quantitative and qualitative data was gathered. The findings of this study revealed that most of the respondents had a positive opinion towards the use of ICTs and it was concluded that urban livestock keepers perceived ICTs as important tools for accessing livestock information. The study recommended for improvement of telecommunications services through relevant bodies in order to facilitate more access to information through use of ICTs. Information networking among urban livestock keepers and the introduction of livestock information centers were also recommended for enhanced access to livestock information.

Mixed methods have emerged as potential problem solvers particularly where traditional mono-method approaches fail to deal with specific research problems. The integration of quantitative and qualitative data within mixed methods approaches is central and should be carefully planned and executed. It is equally important to choose an appropriate mixed methods design, that promises to answer the research questions posed at the start of the research endeavour. The authors used an exploratory sequential mixed method approach to explore stroke knowledge and educational needs in a large population. They present the development and use of a framework (matrix) to ensure comprehensive and transparent data integration in their study and may be used as a template for future studies.

Background and objective: Engaging in clinical reasoning frequently occurs in busy, high pressured, stressful settings with competing demands. Patient outcomes are affected in part by RNs’ clinical reasoning ability. This study aims to explore the extent to which the clinical context influences clinical reasoning among urban and rural registered nurses.Methods: In this exploratory study using a mixed method approach, 11 rural hospital RNs and 7 RNs practicing in urban medical or surgical units completed a survey and a semi-structured individual qualitative interview. Data were generated over a two month period in 2015. Descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney U was used to test for differences among groups. Qualitative data analysis procedures were used to help identify two major themes.Results: The perceived lack of time influenced the participants’ ability to engage in clinical reasoning. The findings also suggest that rule following hampered the participants’ ability to confidently share their clinical reasoning.Conclusions: To deepen RNs clinical reasoning an examination of the clinical environment’s structure and processes that support or impede engagement in clinical reasoning is required. Specific strategies that enhance clinical reasoning need to be unit specific and driven by RNs.

This article examines means of enhancing the value of mixed method research for organizational science. Conclusions are based on a comprehensive analysis of 69 mixed method articles published in four empirical journals between 2009 and 2014, detailed case comparison of four illustrative articles, and personal interviews with lead authors for each case. Findings provide three key contributions. First, documenting the prevalence of mixed methods over the past six years in a broad selection of journals, five approaches to mixed method research are identified—including three novel approaches not yet elaborated on in prior treatises on research methods, expanding the feasible options for mixed method scholarship and bolstering confidence in considering such approaches. Second, themes pertaining to enhancing the value of mixed method research are revealed, including elaboration, generalization, triangulation, and interpretation. Finally, findings uncovered four sets of practical techniques by which this value can be increased. Together, these contributions provide guidance for those endeavoring to utilize a mixed method approach in organizational science.
