The solubility and saturated loading of CO2in piperazine (PZ) promoted 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP) aqueous solution were measured at normal pressure with temperatures ranging from 293.15K to 323.15K. The temperature and the mass fraction dependences of the solubility and saturated loading of CO2were determined. The influence of the mass fraction of PZ on the absorption rate of CO2was illustrated.

Abstract The CO2 absorption process using aqueous amine solutions has been the most promising technique used for the removal of CO2 from gas streams in energy sector. In recent years, many researchers tested solutions which are composed of several compounds: a slow reacting tertiary amine- and a fast amine acting as an activator. In this paper, the CO2 absorption rate in an aqueous solution of N,N-diethylethanoloamine (DEEA) and activated solutions DEEA is investigated experimentally. The activators considered are sterically hindered amines: 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP), 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol (AMPD) and N-methyl-1,3-propanediamine (MAPA) from the group of polyamines. The experiments were conducted over the temperature range of 303-333 K and the total amine concentration of 2 M. From the CO2 absorption experiments into mixed aqueous solutions of DEEA and MAPA, it was found that the addition of small amounts of MAPA into aqueous DEEA solutions has a significant effect on the enhancement of the CO2 absorption rate. The application of hindered amines: AMP or AMP as activators resulted in a marginally improvement of the absorption rate of CO2.

The solubility and absorption rate of CO2 in diethanolamine (DEA) promoted potassium carbonate (K2CO3 ) aqueous solution were measured at 1 atm, with temperatures ranging from 328.15 to 343.15K. The influence of the mass fractions of DEA (w)on the solubility, CO2 loading and absorption rate was illustrated. The experimental results show that at a given mass fraction of K2CO3, the solubility and CO2 loading respectively increases and decreases with increasing w. When w is less than 0.02, the absorption rate increases very rapidly with increasing w, however, exceeding this value, the absorption rate increases slowly.

The speciation in CO2-loaded aqueous solutions of 16 different derivates of triacetoneamine (EvAs) was investigated in a comprehensive NMR-spectroscopic study. About 350 experiments were carried out for CO2-loadings up to 3 moles CO2 per mole amine, temperatures between 20 °C and 100 °C, and a mass fraction of EvA in the unloaded solvent of 0.1 g/g. The observed CO2-containing species were primary and secondary carbamates, alkylcarbonate, (bi)carbonate, and molecular CO2. Some EvAs can form zwitterions with a ring structure, which have an important influence on the speciation. From the comprehensive set of data, relationships between the chemical structure of the EvAs and the observed speciation in aqueous solution were established. These results were related to application properties of the EvAs that were taken from previous work. Based on the findings, some general guidelines for the design of new amines were derived and applied for proposing new amines for CO2-absorption.

Measurements of the absorption rate of carbon dioxide into aqueous solutions of N-methyldiethanoloamine (MDEA) and 2-ethylaminoethanol (EAE) have been carried out. On this basis a mathematical model of the performance of an absorption column operated with aqueous solution of a blend of the above amines at elevated temperatures and pressures have been proposed. The results of simulations obtained by means of this model are described. The work is a part of a wider program, aimed at the development of a new process.

With the catalytic induction of EG, anhydrous DMEA shows CO absorption performance via chemical binding and physical storage under normal pressure. Among the absorbents, pure DMEA can hardly absorb CO directly but when the zwitterionic alkylcarbonates are formed between CO and DMEA-EG which can be characterized by C NMR and FTIR, the absorption rate of CO will be improved at this time. An increasing the CO loading as the mass fraction of EG in DMEA-EG, 90wt.% EG captures up to 0.72 mol/mol. The amount of chemically bound and physically stored is directly dependent on temperature, within the range of 293 to 323K, an absorption-regeneration cycle can be formed in a closed vessel because of the zwitterion DMEA-EG-CO is unstable at the higher temperature. In other words, DMEA-EG-CO can be easily regenerated upon appropriate depressurization or heating, corresponding thermodynamic calculations prove that the regenerative energy of DMEA-EG-CO is 25.49kJ/mol.

The metastable zone width of an aqueous solution of KCI was measured as a function of the time and temperature of overheating above the equilibrium solubility temperature. It has been found that when the experiments follow close upon one another, the parameters of the preceding experiment affect the results of the experiment to follow. The results are interpreted in terms of hypotheses advanced in the literature to account for the effect of thermal history of solution. The plausibility and applicability of these hypotheses are assessed for the given cause of aqueous solution of a well soluble electrolyte.

In order to investigate this subject, I devised and constructed the following apparatus :—A and B are two thin glass basins, 81 millims. internal diameter (= 5,153 sq. millims. of mercury surface), and 6·0 centims. deep; each containing a layer of mercury about 1·0 centim. deep, covered by a layer, about 3 centims. deep, of the aqueous solution to be examined.
