Study on Metal Flow in the Finish Rolling Process of Large-Sized H-Beam

According to the production data of a rolling H-beam factory, the FE model of hot continuous rolling process of H-beam is built. With the FEM software of DEFORM-3D, the continuous rolling of H-beam was simulated. On base of simulation result, the metal flow and deformation law are discussed. Because of the flange and web is deformed in the different deformation zone, the metal flow law of flange and web is complex, especially the metal of the conjunction of flange and web. In this paper, the metal flow of large-sized H-beam in finishing rolling process is analyzed.

Because of the flange and web is deformed in the different deformation zone, the metal flow law of flange and web is complex, especially the metal of the conjunction of flange and web. The exchange of metal between the flange and the web of H-beam alters to the different elongation ratio of flange and web. The other factors which influents on the metal flow , are taken into consideration, such as rolling speed and friction coefficient. By adjustment to the rolling parameters, the defect of the H-beam is reduced.

According to the production data of a rolling H-beam factory, the FE model of hot continuous rolling process of H-beam is built. The rolling process of H-beams is simulated by explicit dynamic FEM, and the influence of deformation parameters on the spread of rolling piece is analyzed. The simulation results show that the flange width, elongation ratio between flange and web and flange thickness are the major influencing factors on the spread of rolling piece.

Based on the software of Deform-3D , the finish rolling process of H-beam has been simulated. According to the simulation from result , in the finishing process ,the residual stress of large sized H-Beam is mainly caused by uneven deformation. The big deformation exists in web. The flange deformation is only generated in the rolling surface. This uneven deformation leads to big residual stress in rolling piece.

Applying the research result of the whole corrugated web H-beam to rail structure, a new kind of rail structure, the corrugated web rail was generated. The special structure rail was successfully rolled in the Research Mill Institute of Yanshan University. Based on the finite element analysis software DEFORM-3D, the rolling process of corrugated waist rail is simulated. The miscrostructure evolution of rolling corrugated waist rail is analysed. The relationship between miscrostructure evolution and deformation are also analysed.

The paper analyzes the influence of tension (dam) on the technological parameters of the rolling process (spreading, force and rolling torque). For the analysis, a model of continuous rolling in three adjacent stands was developed, using the Deform 3D software. The adequacy of the model was confirmed by comparing the experimental data from the small-section wire mill 150 and the simulation results. The error in determining the forming was 0.4%, and in determining the power parameters was 11%. Further, a computational experiment was planned, to identify the effect of mismatched of rolling speeds on technological parameters. According to the results of calculations, graphs of changes in technological parameters were constructed. It is established that, even small deviations of rolling speed from the matched mode lead to significant changes in technological parameters.

Rolling force is the main parameters for calculating the intensity and rigidity of the main parts in the mill. To determine the force produced by the four roll rolling process, the finite element (FE) model for hollow motor shaft forming using 4-roll cross wedge rolling had been established for forming analysis with the aid of FE software Deform-3D. According to the results of FE simulation, the rolling load rules were obtained and maximum force of up to 60 KN. It has important theoretical significance and application value for the mill equipment designing and die structure optimization.
