PET(polyester) plain woven fabric deposited with nano-structured silver thin film was prepared by RF (radio frequency) magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The effect of different sputtering technical parameters on the morphology and particle diameters of the nano-structured silver thin film was characterized by AFM(atomic force microscope)and the conductivities of silver thin films were also analyzed under different sputtering technical parameters. The results indicated that the nanoparticles size of sliver thin films increased with higher sputtering power, the conductivity of sliver thin films was first decreased and then markedly enhanced; The nanoparticles size of sliver thin films decreased with higher gas pressure, the conductivity was markedly decreased; The nanoparticles size of sliver thin films increased with longer sputtering time, the conductivity was markedly enhanced, The best conductivity was achieved at the sputtering time of 15min.

Use of the electron microscope to examine wet objects is possible due to the small mass thickness of the equilibrium pressure of water vapor at room temperature. Previous attempts to examine hydrated biological objects and water itself used a chamber consisting of two small apertures sealed by two thin films. Extensive work in our laboratory showed that such films have an 80% failure rate when wet. Using the principle of differential pumping of the microscope column, we can use open apertures in place of thin film windows.Fig. 1 shows the modified Siemens la specimen chamber with the connections to the water supply and the auxiliary pumping station. A mechanical pump is connected to the vapor supply via a 100μ aperture to maintain steady-state conditions.

It is hardly possible to obtain rare earth doped CaWO4thin films directly through electrochemical techniques. A two-step method has been proposed to synthesize CaWO4:(Eu3+,Tb3+) thin films at room temperature. X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, spectrophotometer were used to characterize their phase, composition and luminescent properties. Results reveal that (Eu3+,Tb3+)-doped CaWO4films have a tetragonal phase. When the ratio of n (Eu)/n (Tb) in the solution is up to 3:1, CaWO4:(Eu3+,Tb3+) thin film will be enriched with Tb element; on the contrary, when the ratio in the solution is lower than 1:4, CaWO4:(Eu3+,Tb3+) thin film will be enriched with Eu element. Under the excitation of 242 nm, sharp emission peaks at 612, 543, 489 and 589 nm have been observed for CaWO4:(Eu3+,Tb3+) thin films.

AbstractAs one of the most widely used nanofabrication methods, the atomic force microscopy (AFM) tip-based nanomachining technique offers important advantages, including nanoscale manipulation accuracy, low maintenance cost, and flexible experimental operation. This technique has been applied to one-, two-, and even three-dimensional nanomachining patterns on thin films made of polymers, metals, and two-dimensional materials. These structures are widely used in the fields of nanooptics, nanoelectronics, data storage, super lubrication, and so forth. Moreover, they are believed to have a wide application in other fields, and their possible industrialization may be realized in the future. In this work, the current state of the research into the use of the AFM tip-based nanomachining method in thin-film machining is presented. First, the state of the structures machined on thin films is reviewed according to the type of thin-film materials (i.e., polymers, metals, and two-dimensional materials). Second, the related applications of tip-based nanomachining to film machining are presented. Finally, the current situation of this area and its potential development direction are discussed. This review is expected to enrich the understanding of the research status of the use of the tip-based nanomachining method in thin-film machining and ultimately broaden its application.

In this work the effects of amorphous (glass) and crystalline (Si) substrates on the structural, morphological and adhesion properties of CoFeB thin film deposited by DC Magnetron sputtering were investigated. It was found that the structure of a substrate affects to crystal formation, surface morphology and adhesion of CoFeB thin films. The X-Ray diffraction patterns reveal that as-deposited CoFeB thin film at low sputtering power was amorphous and would become crystal when the power increased. The increase in crystalline structure of CoFeB thin film is attributed to the crystalline substrate and the increase of kinetic energy of sputtering atoms. Atomic Force Microscopy images of CoFeB thin film clearly show that the roughness, grain size, and uniformity correlate to the sputtering power and the structure of substrate. The CoFeB thin film on glass substrate shows a smooth surface and a small grain size whereas the CoFeB thin film on Si substrate shows a rough surface and a slightly increases of grain size. Sticky Tape Test on CoFeB thin film deposited on glass substrate indicates the adhesion failure with a high sputtering power. The results suggest that the crystalline structure of substrate affects to the atomic bonding and the sputtering power affects to intrinsic stress of CoFeB thin film.

The growth mode of silver films deposited at room temperature on TiO 2(110) surfaces has been examined by means of atomic force microscopy (AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) in ultrahigh vacuum (UHV) conditions, On clean vacancy-free TiO 2(110) surfaces, 0.1-nm-thick (on average) Ag deposits form a two-dimensional (2D) layer. When the thickness of the silver overlayer is increased, 3D clusters are shown to appear while the 2D film is preserved, furthermore, the influence of surface oxygen vacancies on the growth of Ag/TiO 2(110) is evidenced by well-characterized differences in the morphology of 9-nm-thick silver deposits.

High transparency and conductivity of transparent conducting oxide thin film are very important for improving the efficiency of solar cells. ZnO thin film is a better candidate for transparent conductive layer of solar cell. N-type ZnO thin films were prepared by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering on glass substrates. ZnO thin films underwent annealing treatment after deposition. The influence of the sputtering power on the surface morphology, the electrical and optical properties were studied by AFM, XRD, UV2450 and HMS-3000. The experimental results indicate that the crystal quality of ZnO thin film is improved and all films show higher c-axis orientation with increasing sputtering power from 50 to 125 W. The average transparency of ZnO thin films is higher than 90% in the range of 400–900 nm between the sputtering power of 50–100 W. After the rapid thermal annealing at 550°C for 300 s under N2 ambient, the minimum resistivity reach to 10-2Ω⋅ cm .

AbstractFollowing the theory, ferromagnetism is predicted in Mn- doped ZnO, Indeed, ferromagnetism above room temperature was recently reported in thin films as well as in bulk samples made of this material. Here, we have prepared Mn doped ZnO by electrodeposition. The samples have been characterized by X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic methods to ensure that the dopants are substitutional. Some samples exhibit weak ferromagnetic properties at room temperature, however to be useful for spintronics this material need additional carriers provided by others means.
