Abstract. Single crystalline SnS nanowire arrays have been synthesized by sulfurating the Sn nanowire arrays which were prepared with the electrochemical deposition. The obtained SnS nanowire arrays are charactered with the XRD, SEM, TEM and the UV/Visible/NIR spectrophotometer. And the results indicate that the nanowires with an average diameter of 50 nm and a length of several tens micrometers, which same with the as prepared Sn nanowires. There are two absorption peaks indicate with the direct and indirect bandgaps about the orthorhombic SnS nanowire arrays.

Silver nanoparticles were synthesized using Tulsi leaves extract as reducing as well as a capping agent to reduce the steps and parameters involved in the synthesis. The morphology, stability and optical properties of Ag-nanoparticles depend on reactants and stabilizer, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) concentrations. The silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-visible spectrophotometer, and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Spherical morphology of the silver nanoparticles with an average diameter of  25 nm. Morphology changed markedly from spherical aggregated to highly polydispersed in presence of CTAB.

This article describes both electrochemical deposition and electrophoretic deposition of high-density tellurium (Te) nanowire arrays with wire diameters of 60 nm and lengths of 15–20 μm in the nanochannels of anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates. The Te nanowires synthesized via electrochemical deposition (ECD) are generally single crystalline in nature with the wire longitudinal axis along the [001] direction, whereas those synthesized via electrophoretic deposition (EPD) show polycrystalline structures with numerous tiny Te crystallites packed randomly in the wires. The single-crystalline Te nanowires produced by the ECD route are believed to form under a near chemical equilibrium condition; however, the imposed transport and the rapid packing of Te nanocrystallites in the nanochannels of AAO template in external fields lead to polycrystalline Te nanowires in the EPD process. This comparative study of the Te nanowire formation in the nanochannels of AAO template will facilitate the tailoring of the growth of other inorganic nanowires of high quality.

In this work, a green approach was implemented to prepare polymer composites using polyvinyl alcohol polymer and the extract of black tea leaves (polyphenols) in a complex form with Co2+ ions. A range of techniques was used to characterize the Co2+ complex and polymer composite, such as Ultraviolet–visible (UV-Visible) spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The optical parameters of absorption edge, refractive index (n), dielectric properties including real and imaginary parts (εr, and εi) were also investigated. The FRIR and XRD spectra were used to examine the compatibility between the PVA polymer and Co2+-polyphenol complex. The extent of interaction was evidenced from the shifts and change in the intensity of the peaks. The relatively wide amorphous phase in PVA polymer increased upon insertion of the Co2+-polyphenol complex. The amorphous character of the Co2+ complex was emphasized with the appearance of a hump in the XRD pattern. From UV-Visible spectroscopy, the optical properties, such as absorption edge, refractive index (n), (εr), (εi), and bandgap energy (Eg) of parent PVA and composite films were specified. The Eg of PVA was lowered from 5.8 to 1.82 eV upon addition of 45 mL of Co2+-polyphenol complex. The N/m* was calculated from the optical dielectric function. Ultimately, various types of electronic transitions within the polymer composites were specified using Tauc’s method. The direct bandgap (DBG) treatment of polymer composites with a developed amorphous phase is fundamental for commercialization in optoelectronic devices.

We have developed a simple method of fabricating liquid metal nanowire (NW) arrays of eutectic GaIn (EGaIn). When an EGaIn droplet anchored on a flat substrate is pulled perpendicular to the substrate surface at room temperature, an hourglass shaped EGaIn is formed. At the neck of the shape, based on the Plateau–Rayleigh instability, the EGaIn bridge with periodically varying thicknesses is formed. Finally, the bridge is broken down by additional pulling. Then, EGaIn NW is formed at the surface of the breakpoint. In addition, EGaIn NW arrays are found to be fabricated by pulling multiple EGaIn droplets on a substrate simultaneously. The average diameter of the obtained NW was approximately 0.6 μm and the length of the NW depended on the amount of droplet anchored on the substrate. The EGaIn NWs fabricated in this study may be used for three-dimensional wiring for integrated circuits, the tips of scanning probe microscopes, and field electron emission arrays.

A simple and effective approach based on the liquid phase exfoliation (LPE) method has been put forward for synthesizing boron quantum dots (BQDs). By adjusting the interactions between bulk boron and various solvents, the average diameter of produced BQDs is about 7 nm. The nonlinear absorption (NLA) responses of as-prepared BQDs have been systematically studied at 515 nm and 1030 nm. Experimental results prove that BQDs possess broadband saturable absorption (SA) and good third-order nonlinear optical susceptibility, which are comparable to graphene. The fast relaxation time and slow relaxation time of BQDs at 515 nm and 1030 nm are about 0.394–5.34 ps and 4.45–115 ps, respectively. The significant ultrafast nonlinear optical properties can be used in optical devices. Here, we successfully demonstrate all-optical diode application based on BQDs/ReS2 tandem structure. The findings are essential for understanding the nonlinear optical properties in BQDs and open a new pathway for their applications in optical devices.
