Three patients with fish tank granuloma of the hand and forearm are reported. Each patient was treated with antimicrobial regimes which have rarely or never been previously used in this condition. Two patients responded well to treatment, one who received ciprofloxacin plus clarithromycin and another who was given clarithromycin plus ethambutol. The third patient received six different antimicrobial regimes before responding to a combination of rifabutin and ciprofloxacin. Our experience suggests that there now exist a number of effective alternatives to antimicrobials which have been traditionally used in the treatment of cutaneous Mycobacterium marinum infection.

From April 3rd to May 17th of this year I occupied a table at the Plymouth Laboratory, to study the embryology of Teleosteans. As some of the fish in the flat-fish tank were known to be spawning, a net was fitted to the overflow channel into the adjoining tank. By the kind permission of the Director I examined this net daily, and, as a rule, a number of times a day, so that I obtained a pretty complete record of the spawning of the fish in this tank during the period mentioned.

We report a case of cutaneous Mycobacterium marinum infection with the unusual reported features of pruritus and paresthesia. In addition, we report a lack of in-vivo response to antibiotics based on in-vitro susceptibility testing.

This research aims to evaluate the amount of vertical ground movements during Roman times inside the archaeological area of Portus Julius (Gulf of Pozzuoli) using high-precision surveys on the most reliable archaeological sea-level markers. Measuring the submersion of ancient floors, structural elements belonging to a former fish tank, and several roman pilae, two different relative sea levels (RSLs), related to the beginning and the end of the first century BCE, respectively, −4.7/−5.20 m and −3.10 m MSL (mean sea level), were detected. A photogrammetric survey was carried out in order to produce a 3D model of the fish tank. The results in terms of the RSL variations have enabled us to reconstruct a morpho-evolution of the ancient coastal sector during the last 2.1 kyBP. At the beginning of the first century BCE, the area was characterized by a sheltered gulf with numerous maritime villae located along the coast. In 37 BCE, the construction of the military harbour of Portus Julius strongly modified the paleogeography of the sector, which was also affected by a prevailing subsidence at least until the end of the first century BCE (year 12 BCE), when the port was converted into a commercial hub.
