Investigamos os diferentes registros presentes em um caderno de Ciências sobre introdução ao estudo da Química e da Física, visando desvendar aspectos da cultura escolar. Detectamos nele as práticas mais comuns da escrita e seus usos: anotações, cópias e transcrições, sugestivas de prática de memorização de conteúdos de Ciências. A transcrição da oralidade também foi evidenciada. Desenhos e bilhetes apareceram como uma forma de personalizar o caderno, para além do lugar comum onde se copiam lições e se registram conceitos retirados dos livros ou explicados pelo professor. Sistematizamos, então, uma metodologia de análise de cadernos de Ciências que poderá ser aplicada à análise de um volume maior de cadernos e revelar aspectos relevantes das práticas docentes e discentes no ensino de Ciências e do cotidiano escolar. Teaching and learning practices in sciences: methodological development for the perception of the various registers of daily school life We investigated the various registers, which appear on an introduction of a Chemistry and Physics notebook, to verify if they may disclose aspects of the school culture. We observed the most common procedures of writing and their uses: notations, copies and transcriptions, suggesting practices that favor scientific memorization contents. The transcription of oral language was also evident. Illustrations and notes appeared as a way to personalize the notebook, transforming it in something further than a place to copy lessons and to register concepts obtained from the textbook or the teacher explanations. We synthesized a methodology for notebook analysis that can be applied to a high number of notebooks and reveal relevant aspects of teachers and students’practices in Science education and school culture. This paper presents basic theoretical knowledge on a perspective of transformative learning. It focuses on the definition, principles, characteristics of transformative learning, and possiblities to apply it into teaching and learning practices in Vietnam. Alternatives to innovate traditional learning approaches towards a transformative learning approach are also proposed with suggestions on the application of open-ended learning tasks. To effectively apply the transformative learning perspective in schools, it needs more applied research in which integrated approaches and cooperations among researchers from various majors are emphasized. The goal of this work is to describe pre- and in-service science teacher education and science education research in Indonesia in an effort to better inform the global science education community about historical developments and present challenges. We begin by providing an historical overview of the general education system to provide readers with context needed to understand current reform initiatives. Next we describe the current-day process for preparing and certifying science teachers and we describe some of the challenges facing teachers, students, and researchers in Indonesia’s science education context today. We follow this discussion with an introduction to some existing professional organizations for teachers and researchers in Indonesia that are working to develop important channels for disseminating current research on teacher practice, curriculum innovation, and student learning that have the potential to positively influence on teaching and learning in the future. We conclude by highlighting some areas that would benefit from additional research and by inviting more international collaborative research initiatives with colleagues in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Curriculum administration is the whole process of planned and intentional and deliberate activities as well as ongoing guidance to the teaching and learning situation in order to help the achievement of educational goals effectively and efficiently.In this connection, at any school level the principal task of the school is to ensure that there are good teaching programs for students. Because basically the management or management of education focuses on all its efforts on teaching and learning practices (PBM). This seems clear that in essence all efforts and activities carried out in schools or educational institutions are always directed at the success of PBM.

This paper aims to elicit the different conceptions of Socioscientific Issues (SSI) in formal, non-tertiary STEM lessons. An examination of recent publications in the field of science education was conducted to elicit the most common conceptions of SSI as per the components of STEM lessons, namely: purpose, contents, teaching and learning strategies and assessment. As for purpose, the conceptions elicited have been organized in terms of contributing to citizenship goals, or to scientific competence. As for contents, it was found that SSI are related both to knowledge of science and knowledge about science and linked to skills such as argumentation. In terms of teaching and learning strategies, SSI are mainly associated with Inquiry-Based Learning; and with student engagement techniques such as dilemmas and group discussions. Lastly, performance assessment of student learning processes and results is typical when SSI are conceived as a method of assessment of STEM lessons. This conception sets up strong foundations for the design and evaluation of innovative SSI teaching. It shall also help to open new lines of research establishing connections among applications of SSI in different subjects, cultural contexts and educational systems.

Classroom actions rely, among other things, on teaching habits and traditions. Previous research has clarified three different teaching traditions in science education: the academic tradition builds on the idea that simply the products and methods of science are worth teaching; the applied tradition focuses on students’ ability to use scientific knowledge and skills in their everyday life; and the moral tradition opens up a relationship between science and society, focusing on students’ decision making concerning socio scientific issues. The aim of this paper is to identify and discuss similarities and differences between the science curricula in Sweden, France and Western Switzerland in terms of teaching traditions. The study considers the following dimensions in the analysis: (1) the goals of science education as presented in the initial recommendations of the curricula; (2) the organization and division of the core contents; and (3) the learning outcomes expected from the students in terms of concepts, skills and/or scientific literacy requirements. Although the three traditions are taken into account within the various initial recommendations, the place they occupy in the content to be taught is different in each case. In the Swedish curriculum, our analyses show that the three traditions are embedded in the initial recommendations and in the expected outcomes. On the other hand, in the Western-Swiss and French curricula, the three traditions are embedded in the initial recommendations but only academic tradition can be found in the expected outcomes. Therefore, the Swedish curriculum seems to be more consistent regarding teaching traditions. This may have some consequences on teaching and learning practices, which will be discussed in the article. Moreover, our analyses enable us to put forward definitions of teaching tradition.

Este pôster apresenta a contribuição do Grupo de Trabalho 4 (WG 4): Transições para recursos digitais: mudança, invariância e orquestração, na conferência internacional Re(s)sources 2018 Conference - Compreendendo o Trabalho dos Professores Por Meio de Suas Interações Com Recursos para o Ensino - realizada entre os dias 28 e 30 de maio no Instituto Francês de Educação em Lyon, França. A apresentação, discussão e o trabalho coletivo desse grupo abordaram tópicos específicos relacionados com recursos digitais que se tornaram parte importante dos sistemas de recursos dos professores e alunos. A integração de recursos digitais em práticas de ensino e aprendizagem levanta muitas questões para professores e educadores. O Grupo de Trabalho WG4 buscou responder essas questões a partir de perspectivas teóricas, incluindo gênese instrumental, orquestração instrumental e gênese documental. The presentation, discussion and collective work of this group addressed specific topics related to digital resources that have become an important part of the resource systems of teachers and students. The integration of digital resources into teaching and learning practices raises many questions for teachers and educators. The Working Group WG4 sought to answer these questions from theoretical perspectives, including instrumental genesis, instrumental orchestration and documentary genesis. For this poster, we focus on the contributions of Working Group 4 (WG4), in which the authors of this poster were participating in the discussions on the researches presented regarding the concepts of resource and document in the Documentary Genesis of Gueudet and Trouche.

Abstract An increasing number of international students, whose culture of teaching and learning practices are very different from UK students, are studying at British universities. This study investigates multicultural students’ preferences using two different teaching approaches in the 2009/2010 academic year, which is explained in the framework of this study. The study sample was two groups, a total of 34 students who were studying Japanese as a non-credited module. Quantitative and qualitative data was collected using questionnaires. The results showed that students’ preferences in teaching and learning appeared to be altered and influenced by the British educational culture regardless of students’ previous educational culture. In addition, the sample participants’ preference of teaching and learning are categorised into three types based on the framework of the study. Those who are in the teaching profession in a multicultural learning environment are encouraged to take consideration of students’ previous educational culture. It is suggested to incorporate teaching and learning practices from non-Anglophone countries to the Anglophone originated teaching approach to capture different preferences of multicultural students, reflecting global international characteristics of teaching and learning environments.
