Nowadays distance education helps when no other traditional possibility is allowed. But is it a good alternative to replace entirely the traditional education? Could it provide at least the same level of quality or it brings problems that we are not prepared for? The paper presents an observation of a problem with keeping students focused on their education – constant dropping of engagement and unintentional loss of attention during situation of distance learning. Appling measures to keep students’ attraction led to the need of some aspects’ automation – a model for a new intelligent assistant, software agent, was developed, along with the current ones in the existing system. This assistant will create profiles of students, helping with personalized tracking of each student’s progress in specific subject, recommending topics to improve knowledge and fill knowledge gaps. It will “live” in the extension of an existing system and cooperate with other agents to accomplish its goals, proactively assisting in students’ learning aspects, as well as teachers’ efforts to prepare better and more suitable educational materials.

The intent of action is the achievement of something decisive. Within any business, decisiveness is hopefully linked to the successful generation of revenue due to the right product being introduced to the right market at the right time. The challenge is to ensure that once a product is released to the market, that the most revenue possible can be earned. In the case of higher education, one potential product is distance education offerings that provide learning opportunities to students who cannot participate in traditional education. The development of distance educational materials for online use, however, can be costly, and subsequent revenue streams may generates little or no revenue, which occurs with many distance education programs. This can be resolved, however, by the strategic re-purposing of online course materials that may have been developed for distance education.

2020 was a truly revolutionary year in terms of education – from the paradigm of predominantly traditional education, we had to rapidly “step” into a distance format, regardless of our desire and readiness. In 2020 two tectonic shifts happened at once: the shift from synchronous offline classes (education) to synchronous online and then from synchronous formats to asynchronous and mixed. In addition to issues related to the technical support of the educational process, the issue related to the development of new professional and pedagogical principles and rules that would contribute to the highly moral behavior and activities of the teacher in creating a comfortable environment for all participants of distance learning process, emphasizing that ethical requirements must reflect the relationship between teachers and learners. We conducted a research aimed at revealing the principles and values the teachers consider crucial to follow when conducting online classes, the skills they think they need master in order to raise the level of their professional expertise, improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning processes, and make their students self-confident and independent. The results of the survey can be used in designing special courses devoted to professional or pedagogical ethics in online learning.

In many higher education institutions of Ukraine there are centers of distance education, the system of which is based on a number of principles: continuity; democratization; integration; globalization. In the conditions of the declared quarantine connected with the Covid–19 pandemic in the educational process of higher educational institutions and medical in particular distance learning has become especially relevant. The aim is to descriptive the forms and methods of distance learning on the example of microbiology, virology and immunology in TNMU and department of microbiology, virology and immunology ZSMU. Microsoft Office 365 (MS Teams application) and Skype for Business were chosen as the main platforms for the implementation of distance learning at ZSMU for the quarantine period. As a platform for distance education at the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology, TNMU used the capabilities of Moodle. Distance learning at ZSMU and TNMU was carried out according to the schedule drawn up at the beginning of the semester using two forms of education, because this combination best helps to implement and ensure the learning process: online conferences and coverage of all materials on the department’s website. The advantages of distance learning are obvious today. This form of learning has significant potential, because the software capabilities of the Microsoft Office 365 and Moodle platforms allow you to quickly transfer any amount of study material to students with its subsequent storage and permanent access for self-study and repetition, as well as various forms of student knowledge control and documentation of the received marks. For successful distance learning it is very important to choose the optimal form of learning or a combination thereof. However, it cannot completely replace traditional education and necessarily requires practical work, especially when studying disciplines at the Department of Microbiology, Virology and Immunology.

Modern distance learning technologies offer unique opportunities for organizing the educational process. In the world practice distance education occupies more than 60% of the educational services market. However in Russia distance education has so far remained in low demand. The forced transition to the distance learning format contributed to the revision of the methodic potential of distance learning technologies and distance learning in general. In view of this, teachers had a lot of questions regarding the organization of feedback with the training group, the transfer of educational materials to distance education platforms, the implementation of perfor-mance monitoring and much more. The issue of developing the competence of foreign language teachers has become particularly relevant in the pedagogical environment. Due to the lack of appropriate skills teachers had to adapt to the new educational conditions and completely rebuild the educational process. The formation of an educational environment with the use of distance learning technologies in teaching a foreign language is a time requirement that needs a modern solution to the tasks set. We consider the terminological apparatus on the topic of the problem under study, determine the advantages and disadvantages of using these technologies, the forms of organizing distance learning as well as the content of the competence of a foreign language teacher at a university.

The quality of the output (students) of any educational institution depends on many factors like curriculum, technology, infrastructure, assessment, students and its faculty. The most important of all these factors is faculty. If faculty members are satisfied, motivated and committed then students' learning is going to be much better. No matter how advanced technology and infrastructure may be, how well designed the curriculum is and how delicate the assessment mechanism is, faculty is a variable that supersedes all. Teaching, whether in conventional or distance learning, is the single variable that can be a decisive factor in students' learning. Teaching in distance mode, where there is no or very little teacher-student interaction may become a boring, routine and unattractive job. Too much research is being conducted on factors like technology and media, whereas the faculty of distance education remains a neglected area. In this study, the Job Characteristic Model developed by Hackman and Oldham (1976) has been used as the theoretical basis and the Job Diagnostic Survey has been used to collect data from teachers of distance learning and traditional universities by using an online link which was sent via email to all the faculty members. The purpose of the study was to gather empirical data about faculty satisfaction in both modes of teaching (traditional and distance learning), compare both modes and explore which factors are considered to be more important by the faculty members. The results show that faculty members in distance education and traditional education systems differ in their perceptions towards their jobs. Higher mean scores have been recorded for skill variety, task identity, autonomy, feedback from work, experienced meaningfulness, job security and growth satisfaction by faculty of the traditional education system as compared to distance education faculty.

Present status and use for educational purposes, technology is fulfilling an ever increasing role in both the traditional education field, and in other fields which are utilizing technology for educational purposes. Within the educational field we can see technology as a means of removing barriers for students and teachers alike. First, technology can remove financial and geographical barriers through distributed learning. This allows students and teachers to experience educational opportunities that they might have otherwise never been able to encounter. Second, technology is bringing about a new focus on problem and skill based learning. Information databases are being used to assist teachers in the acquisition of new knowledge and provide professional support outside of the traditional professional development seminar. In regards to future action, we should continue to utilize the successful trends in education as a means to fulfil their developmental potential and see increased impacts on our field. In particular, we should continue the use of distance learning as a means of professional development for teachers, by providing more opportunities aimed at improving their job related performance. Distance learning for students should also be an area of focus by providing software that allows for increasing authenticity in simulations, multimedia content, and social connections. We should continue to focus on technology that allows students to interact with other students and environments located outside of their current environment, locality, and culture. Information systems are also in need of continual investment. Information systems perform two important roles for the educational system: Focus on this paper, technology has already served an important role in education in multiple fields. Specifically, technology has been of great use to the educational field in terms of its focus on improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the educational experiences of both students and teachers. Continued use and development of technology can serve to further benefit the educational field and recommendations based on the development of existing trends in education should be pursued for great gains in educational achievement..
