This paper presents the design and development of an online monitoring system that collects data over time or distance with a built-in instrument or sensors. Currently, an online data collection system (Vehicle Data logger) from general vehicle is not available in the market. Only the vehicles’ manufacturers have the tool to access the engine ECU to monitor the vehicle’s data. Current available automotives meter are display an estimated but inaccurate speed, engine revolution, fuel and temperature data. This paper developed to record the speed of vehicle, engine revolution (rpm), engine temperature, fuel volume and distance parameters. The software design of ASIC has been developed to implement a sophisticated data viewing methods. The program utilized new framework based on track segmenting to better organize data, instantly provides summaries of segment data and attempts to better display the driving performance. The characteristic of fuel sender (to determine fuel volume in Litre) and temperature sender (to determine engine temperature in Celsius) is downloaded to FPGA. All the recorded information are saved in Application IC chip(8051 IC), which can be reset after load the information to the(personal computer) PC using UART communication. All the measurements were carried out on selected road track as the field test of total trips about 3 kilometers.

This research presents the Preventive Maintenance Data Logger (PMDL) Monitoring System and the process of how it has been manufactured. Preventive Maintenance Data Logger Monitoring System is a device which will collect the data from vehicle’s sensor for prevention maintenance and then save the data to other storage for future analysis. Preventive Maintenance Data Logger Monitoring System also can send notification to user for crash prevention. This project comprises of mechanical system, electronic system, and software system. The methodology of the Preventive Maintenance Data Logger system and prototype development is discussed in this paper on the manufacturing processes. The software is programmed using C language in Arduino software and the notification for preventive are develop using BLYNK application. Manufacturing processes involves in making this project, including additive manufacturing, welding and cutting. Several test case studies were conducted to verify the capability of the device in term of the vehicle speed, location, crash point data, distance between other vehicles detection and reliability.

The reliability of an elevator system in a smart city is of great importance. This chapter develops a conceptual framework for the design and development of an automated online condition monitoring system for elevators (AOCMSE) using IoT techniques to avoid failures. The elevators are powered by the traction motors. Therefore, by placing vibration sensors at various locations within the traction motor, the vibration data can be acquired and converted to 2D grayscale images. Then, maximum response-based directional texture pattern (MRDTP) can be applied to those images which are an advanced method of feature extraction. The feature vectors can also be reduced in dimension using principal component analysis (PCA) and then given to extreme learning machine (ELM) for the classification of the faults to five categories. Thus, the failure of elevators and the consequences can be prevented by sending this detected fault information to the maintenance team.
