The aim of the research project solved at the University of Finance and administration is to construct a new bankruptcy model. The intention is to use data of the firms that have to cease their activities due to bankruptcy. The most common method for bankruptcy model construction is multivariate discriminant analyses (MDA). It allows to derive the indicators most sensitive to the future companies’ failure as a parts of the bankruptcy model. One of the assumptions for using the MDA method and reassuring the reliable results is the normal distribution and independence of the input data. The results of verification of this assumption as the third stage of the project are presented in this article. We have revealed that this assumption is met only in a few selected indicators. Better results were achieved in the indicators in the set of prosperous companies and one year prior the failure. The selected indicators intended for the bankruptcy model construction thus cannot be considered as suitable for using the MDA method.

The study was devoted to the analysis of feller buncher platform leveling systems. The widespread use of these systems in the design of modern feller-buncher machines makes the study relevant to assess operational efficiency. The analysis was conducted in five stages using analytical and stochastic mathematical modeling methods. In the first stage, the existing layouts of alignment systems were analyzed from the position of force on the hydraulic cylinder rods of the platform tilt drive. The three-cylinder layout scheme, where the force on the hydraulic cylinder rod was 50…60% less than that on the two-cylinder layout, appeared to be the most expedient. In the second stage, a mathematical model for determining changes in the position of the center of mass of the feller-buncher depending on the inclination angle of the platform was derived. In the third stage, a mathematical model was derived for determining the limiting angle of slope of the terrain when the feller buncher moved up the slope. For this purpose, two calculation schemes were considered when the machine moved up the slope without and with a tilted platform. Zero support reaction on the front roller was taken as the stability criterion. In the fourth stage, a mathematical model for determining the limiting angle of slope of the terrain during the roll of the feller-buncher machine was obtained. In the fifth stage, the efficiency of the application of leveling systems was evaluated. A graph of the dependence of changes in the terrain slope angle on the platform slope angle was plotted, and a regression dependence for an approximate estimate was obtained. A regression analysis was also carried out, and dependencies were obtained to determine the weight of a feller-buncher with a leveling system and the added pressure on the ground caused by the increase in the weight of the base machine. The analysis of platform leveling systems showed the effectiveness of their application in the designs of feller-buncher machines, as it allows the machines to work on slopes with an inclination of 50…60% more than without them.

We hear nowadays in literary criticism of a type of novel that is an ‘anti-novel’ and of a type of hero who is an ‘anti-hero’. I recently read an article which argued, rather well in my opinion, that the later philosophy of Wittgenstein is an anti-philosophy. One could say the same of the philosophie positive of Auguste Comte, who is often called the father of sociology. The principle with which Comte starts off his philosophy, ‘the fundamental law of mental development’, would put an end to philosophy as traditionally conceived, and would replace it by science. According to Comte, human inquiry goes through three stages. In the first stage, the theological or fictive, men try to give explanations in terms of supernatural beings. At the second stage, the metaphysical or abstract, theological explanation has given way to explanation in terms of abstract entities such as Absolute Motion or Absolute Justice. In the third stage, the scientific or positive, metaphysical explanations have given way to scientific explanations, that is to explanations which do not refer to any unobservable entities but instead simply correlate observable phenomena with each other. This is a picture of intellectual history in which philosophy takes the place of theology and then science takes the place of philosophy

This study extends previous investigations of interns’ and their cooperating teachers’ views of teaching in rural schools, which were conducted in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. The present paper includes findings from a survey conducted in 2002 of a fifth cohort of interns and their classroom cooperating teachers. It examined the same four items analyzed in the four previous studies (namely: the advantages of teaching in rural areas, the disadvantages of doing so, recommendations about practicum placements for future interns, and advice for these interns), as well as items that also solicited respondents’ views of what the University’s College of Education and the rural school divisions could do to promote both interning and teaching in rural schools. Findings are synthesized and implications are drawn for both the University and the school divisions involved in these studies as well as for other institutions in similar situations—with respect to improving internship and teaching, and to helping promote the stability of rural communities, of which the school is often a key component.

This article aims to outline the main stages in the development of Bulgarian studies at the University of Belgrade, as well as to describe its current state, without claiming to be exhaustive. The first stage of the development of the specialty could rather be considered a preparatory stage in the development of Bulgarian studies as we know it today. The second stage is marked by the scientific work of Marin Mladenov and the development of mainly literary Bulgarian studies. In the third stage, the emphasis is placed on the linguistic Bulgarian studies by Mariana Aleksic, as the teaching staff expands. Today, the Faculty of Philology at the University of Belgrade is the only place in Serbia where Bulgarian studies exist as a separate specialty within the Department of Serbian with South Slavic Languages. The Bulgarian language is also studied as an elective discipline (twosemester and four-semester), and almost all Bulgarian disciplines can be studied as electives by students from other specialties. It could be said that Belgrade Bulgarian studies today strive to soon achieve the much-needed balance in the presence of specialists in the field of literature and language.
