This study aims to determine the morphology of Leydig cells in hyperlipidemic wistar rats after having administered with sembung (Blumea balsamifera) extract orally. This study utilised a randomized post-test only control group design. The sample in this study were 16 adult male wistar rats (Rattus novergicus) aged 3-4 months with a body weight of 150-200 grams, which were equally and randomly divided into two groups, namely control group (hyperlipidaemia and sterile aquadest) and treatment group (hyperlipidaemia and sembung leaf extract). Hyperlipidaemia was induced with lard administration for 50 days. Data were analysed statistically using the Independent t-test. The results showed that the number of Leydig cells in the treatment group was higher than the control group with 68.13 ± 1.89 and 55.63 ± 1.92 cells respectively (P <0.05). In addition, the mean Leydig cell core diameter of the control group, 5.00 ± 0.34 µm, was smaller compared to the treatment group which was 5.80 ± 0.20 µm (P <0.05). It can be inferred that sembung leaf extract provides a protective effect against damage to Leydig cells due to hyperlipidaemia.

Abstract: Excessive physical activity increases the consumption of oxygen which can result in increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) causing oxidative stress characterized by the elevation of F2-isoprostane as a byproduct of lipid peroxidation. Willow (Justicia gendarussa Burm. f.) has an antioxidant activity that is able to inhibit and break the chain reaction of free radicals and prevent lipid peroxidation. This study was aimed to prove that willow leaf extract could inhibit the elevation of F2-isoprostane levels in male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) urin induced by excessive physical training. This was a true experimental study using 16 male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus), aged 2-3 months, weighing 180-200 g as subjects. The control group (P0) was treated with a placebo and excessive physical training, and the treatment group (P1) was treated with the willow leaf extract of 200mg/rat/day and excessive physical training. Before and after 14 days of treatment, the urine samples were collected and their levels of F2-isoprostane 8-isoPGF2α were examined by using enzyme immunoassay kit (EIA). The results showed that the mean level of F2-isoprostane in the control group (P0) before treatment (pretest) was 5.20±0.483 ng / mL while in the treatment group (P1) was 5.46±0.655 ng / mL (P > 0.05). On the other hand, after treatment for 7 days (post-test), the mean level of F2-isoprostane in the control group (P0) was 5.34±0.476 ng/mL and in the treatment group (P1) was 3.61±0.389 ng/mL (P < 0.01). Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental dengan subjek 16 ekor tikus (Rattus norvegicus), galur Wistar, sehat, berumur 6 bulan, berat badan 180-200 gr, dengan kadar F2-isoprostan >2ng/mL. Kelompok kontrol (P0) diberikan pelatihan fisik berlebih dan plasebo aquadest 2ml sedangkan kelompok perlakuan (P1) diberikan pelatihan fisik berlebih dan ekstrak daun gandarusa dosis 200mg/ekor/hari. Sebelum dan setelah 14 hari perlakuan, sampel urin ditampung dan diperiksa kadar F2-isoprostan menggunakan 8-isoPGF2α enzyme immunoassay kit (EIA) dari assay design untuk data pretest dan post-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan rerata kadar F2-isoprostan pada kelompok P0 sebelum perlakuan (pretest) ialah 5,20±0,483 ng/mL, sedangkan pada kelompokP1 ialah 5,46±0,655 ng/mL (P > 0,05). Setelah perlakuan selama 14 hari (post-test), rerata kadar F2-isoprostan pada kelompok P0 ialah 5,34±0,476 ng/mL dan pada kelompok P1 ialah 3,61±0,389 ng/mL (P < 0,01). Simpulan: Ekstrak daun gandarusa (Justicia gendarussa burm. f.) dapat menurunkan kadar F2-isoprostan urin tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus) jantan yang diinduksi latihan fisik berlebih.Kata kunci: daun gandarusa, F2-isoprostan, pelatihan fisik berlebih

Abstract: This study was aimed to prove that administration of black cincau (Mesona palustris BL) leaf extract increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels of overtraining-induced male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This was a true experimental study using the randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Subjects were 16 male rats (Rattus norvegicus), 6-month old, Wistar strain, weighing 180-200 g, SOD level <39.3 U/mL (normal SOD level), divided into two groups: the control group (P0) and the treatment group (P1). The P0 group was given excessive physical training and aquadest for 14 days, while the P1 group was given excessive physical training and black cincau leaf extract of 54 mg/200 g BW daily for 14 days. The results showed that the mean SOD level before treatment (pretest) in the P0 group was 30.63±2.26 U/mL while in the P1 group was 31.31±2.52 U/mL (P >0.05). After 14-day treatment (posttest), the mean SOD level in the P0 group was 29.36±2.83 U/mL while in the P1 group was 41.31±2.35 U/mL (P <0.01). Further analysis showed that there was no change of SOD levels in the P0 group (P > 0.05), but in the P1 group there was a significant increase of SOD levels from 31.31±2.52U/mL to 41.31±2.35U/mL (P <0.01). Setelah perlakuan selama 14 hari (posttest), rerata kadar SOD pada kelompok P0 ialah 29,36±2,83 U/mL, dan pada kelompok P1 ialah 41,31±2,35 U/mL (P <0,01). Hasil analisis efek perlakuan menunjukkan bahwa pada kelompok P0 tidak terjadi perubahan kadar SOD (P >0,05), namun pada kelompok P1 terjadi peningkatan bermakna kadar SOD dari 31,31±2,52 U/mL menjadi 41,31±2,35U/mL (P <0,01). Simpulan: Ekstrak daun cincau dosis 54 mg/200 gr BB tikus dapat meningkatkan kadar SOD tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus) jantan yang diinduksi pelatihan fisik berlebih.Kata kunci: daun cincau, SOD, aktivitas fisik berlebih

Background: The incidence of burns in Indonesia progressively increases with the increase in its population and industries. From January to September 2000, 158 patients were treated in the burn unit of Dr Soetomo Hospital with a mortality rate reaching 5,8%. Burns have a direct effect in causing both local and systemic changes in the body, not occurring in other injuries. In severe burns, a hypermetabolic state can occur, which increases cardiac workload and causes muscle atrophy and other morbidities. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of propranolol on the hypermetabolic state in severely burned patients by measuring various clinical & laboratory parameters.Methods : This is an experimental study using pre and post test control group design with the objective of assessing the treatment outcome with oral propranolol given in 15 consecutive days for burn patients involving 25%- 60% TBSA. Measurements were taken three times, on day 0, 7 and 14.Results : Obtained 16 samples divided into 2 groups. In the treatment group, there was a significant decrease in CRP levels on days 0, 7 and 14 (p <0.05). The Mid Arm Circumference variable did not obtain a significant decreasing on days 0, 7 and 14. The albumin level studied showed a significant decreasing on day 0 & 7 days with a value of p = 0.045. From the comparison between the two groups, there were significant differences in CRP levels on days 0 & 14, with the mean value of the treatment group -5.12 + 2.88 and the mean value of the control group 2.86 + 7.37, and the value of p = 0.019.Conclusions: This study successfully proved that the administration of propranolol can overcome the effects of hypermetabolism which is characterized by decreasing in CRP levels.

Background: The extract of ramania Bouea macrophylla Griff) and binjai (Mangifera caesia) leaf have flavonoid compounds that function as antioxidants to balance the amount of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in tissues and optimize wound healing by helping synthesis of hydroxyproline which is used as a collagen synthesis material. Objective: To compare the effect of 15% concentration of ramania leaf extract gel, 15% concentration of binjai leaf extract gel on collagen density in back incision wounds of male Wistar rats on day 7 and day 14. Methods: This study used a true experimental design with a posttest-only with control group design. The study sample used male wistar rats that were healthy and active, aged 2-3 months with a body weight of 250-300 grams. The total sample was 18 rats divided into 6 groups. The 15% concentration of ramania and binjai leaves was given topically, then the rats were euthanized on the 7th and 14th day. Collagen index measurement was using hydroxyproline concentration. Results: Two-way Anova data analysis showed a significant value of 0.00 (p<0.05), which means that there was a difference in effect between the treatment gel and wound day. Bonferroni Post Hoc test showed a significant value in all treatment gel groups. Conclusion: There is a difference in the effect of 15% concentration of ramania leaf extract gel and 15% concentration of binjai extract gel on collagen density. Binjai leaf extract gel at 15% concentration is more effective for collagen density than Ramania leaf extract at 15% concentration and placebo. Keywords : Binjai Leaf Extract Gel, Collagen, Hydroxyproline, Ramania Leaf Extract Gel.

<p><strong><em>Background:</em></strong><em> </em><em>Channa striata contains important compounds in the process of tissue synthesis and important role in wound healing, such as albumin, zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), iron (Fe) and unsaturated fat acids. <strong>Purpose :</strong> To determine the effect of Channa striata extract to the amount of neutrophil in healing process of traumatic ulcer. <strong>Material and Method :</strong> The design of this study used randomized post test only control group design. 18 wistar rats were divided into 6 groups, i.e: K-1 (no treatment for 1 day), K-3 (no treatment for 3 days), K+1 (giving hyaluronic acid 0.2% for 1 day), K+3 (giving hyaluronic acis 0.2% for 3 days), P1 (giving Channa striata extract 100% for 1 day), P3 (giving Channa striata extract 100% for 3 days). <strong>Results :</strong> There was a decrease in the number of neutrophil in the treatment group. The mean and standart deviation of the number of neutrophil in the K-1 group (75,96±3,65), K-3 (50,76±2,04), K+1(72,96±2,97),K+3(45,06±2,83),P1(54,20±1,31),P3(32,50±,85). <strong>Conclusion :</strong> The using of Channa striata extract 100% for 3 days are the most effective in decreasing the amount of neutrophil in healing process of traumatic ulcer of Rattus Novergicus Strain Wistar.</em></p>

ABSTRACTBackground: Inflammatory and/or non-inflammatory processes play a role in stimulating pulp repair and the formation of hard tissue, namely reparative dentin. Macrophages play a role in the pathogenesis and chronic inflammatory disorders. The combination casein lactoferrin of bovine colostrum as an immunomodulator has therapeutic potential. This study aims to determine the therapeutic effect and duration of application of the combination of casein lactoferrin of bovine colostrum, on the expression of macrophages as pulp capping.Method: This study was a true experimental laboratories post test only control group design, consisting of three groups of 60 male wistar rats with 4 observation times, namely day to day 7, 14, 21 and 28 each of 5 mice. The maxillary 1st molars were prepared until the roof of the pulp was exposed. Three groups, namely the combination of casein and lactoferrin bovine colostrum (CKL) and calcium hydroxide (K1) and the untreated group (K0). Each group was filled with glassionomer as a permanent restoration. The tissue was made histological preparations with hematoxylin-eosin staining and the number of macrophages were counted, then analyzed by two way ANOVA and post hoc LSD tests.Result: The results showed that the therapeutic effect and duration of application of the combination of casein and lactoferrin bovine colostrum on the expression of macrophages as pulp cappingConclusion: The combination of casein and lactoferrin of bovine colostrum as capping material can increase the number of macrophages in the healing process of dental pulp.

Abstract: Weight is one measure that gives description of the tissue mass including body fluids. Weight change is nfluenced by nutriment consumption. Sago contains high carbohydrates that can increase body weight. This study aimed to obtain the effect of sago compared to rice to body weight of wistar rats. This was a random laboratory experimental pre-post test with control group design. Subjects were male wistar rats, aged 5-6 months. The rats were divided in two groups: rice group as control and sago group. Sago was cooked in papeda form as much as 75 g of dried sago and 300 mL water. The rats were fed for 2 weeks. Data were analyzed by using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed that the sago group showed an increase of body weight significantly (p=0,001) meanwhile the rice group lose body weight significantly (p=0,001). Conclusion: Sago can increase body weight of wistar rats significantly.Keywords: body weight, sago, riceAbstrak: Berat badan merupakan salah satu ukuran yang memberikan gambaran massa jaringan termasuk cairan tubuh. Salah satu yang memengaruhi berat badan yaitu dengan mengonsumsi makanan bergizi. Sagu memiliki kandungan karbohidrat (pati) yang besar dan dapat meningkatkan berat badan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian sagu terhadap berat badan dibanding nasi pada tikus wistar. Desain penelitian ini ialah eksperimental laboratorium acak pre-post test with control group design. Subjek penelitian ialah tikus wistar jantan berusia 5-6 bulan dibagi atas 2 kelompok: kelompok nasi (kontrol) dan kelompok sagu. Sagu dimasak dalam bentuk papeda sebanyak 75 g sagu kering dan 300 mL air. Tikus diperlihara selama 2 minggu. Berat badan diukur dengan menggunakan timbangan. Data dianalisis dengan uji Wilcoxon. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian sagu sebanyak 2 cc setiap hari selama seminggu mampu meningkatkan berat badan secara bermakna (p = 0,001) sedangkan pemberian nasi menurunkan berat badan (p=0,001). Simpulan: Pemberian sagu dapat meningkatkan berat badan tikus wistar secara bermakna.Kata kunci: berat badan, sagu, nasi

Nigella sativa oil is antioxidant compound has the effect that serves to prevent cellular damage. The effect of Nigella sativa oil in the motility and total count of spermatozoa wistar rats. Experimental research with the design of post test only control group design. Wistar rats consists of 24 head and divided into 4 groups consist of control and treatment group. The control group was distilled. The first treatment was of Nigella sativa oil everydays as much with dose 150 mg/kgbw, 250 mg/kgbw, and 350 mg/kgbw, for 16 days, . Statistic test for motility and count of sperm wistar rats use the Kruskal-Wallis followed by Mann Whitney test. Avarage value of motility in the control (21.67±9.832) its lower than treatment. In dose 350 mg/kgbw its highest (52.33±13.292) compare in the treatment 250 mg/kgbw (40.67±17.512) and 150 mg/kgbw (30.67±8.165). avarage value of count sperm in the control (130.83±41.877) its lower than treatments. In dose 350 mg/kgbw its highest (199.67±23.480) compare in the treatment 250 mg/kgbw (187.50±74.538) and 150 mg/kgbw (140.83±32.568). Administration of Nigella sativa oil occur to enhancement motility and number of spermatozoa wistar rats.

Abstract: The coffee beans composed of the compound caffeine, palmitic acid, linoleic acid and acid stearic. The content of caffeine in coffee can improve spermatozoa motility that are not motile by inhibiting cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase and affects the intracellular levels of cyclic AMP. Spermatozoa quality can be affected by various factors such as stress. In nocturnal animals, dark periode becomes a signal to do activity by suprachiasmatic nucleus. The change in activity of the nocturnal animals from initial condition in the dark then exposed to light can leads to stress. This study was aimed to determine the effect of coffee on the spermatozoa quality of wistar rats which had been exposed to stress. This was an experimental analytical study with a post-test only control group design. The study was conducted for 50 days from September to November 2016. The sample consisted of 9 rats divided into three groups: a control group (P0) is given only exposure to stress in the form of light, the treatment group 1 (P1) is given exposure to stress in the light form and liquid coffee 1 ml / kg and the treatment group 2 (P2) is given exposure to stress in the light form and coffee extracts. The results showed that there were significant differences in the concentration and motility treatment group 1 (P1) to the control group (P0) which is p <0.05 and significant differences in sperm motility treatment group 2 (P2) to the control group (P0) which is p <0.05. Conclusion: Coffee administration could improve the quality of spermatozoa of wistar rats exposed to stress.Keywords: stress, coffee, quality of spermatozoa. Abstrak: Biji kopi tersusun dari senyawa kafein, asam palmatik, asam linoleat dan asam stearik. Kandungan kafein yang terdapat didalam kopi mampu meningkatkan motilitas spermatozoa yang tidak motil dengan cara menghambat siklus nukleotida fosfodiesterase dan mempengaruhi level intraseluler dari siklus AMP. Kualitas spermatozoa juga dapat dipengaruhi oleh berbagai faktor lain seperti stres. Pada hewan nokturnal periode gelap menjadi sinyal untuk beraktiftas dilakukan oleh suprachiasmatic nucleus. Perubahan aktivitas pada hewan nokturnal dari kondisi awalnya ditempat yang gelap lalu diberikan paparan cahaya dapat menyebabkan terjadinya stres. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian kopi terhadap kualitas spermatozoa tikus wistar yang terpapar stres. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental analitik dengan post-test only control group design. Penelitian dilakukan selama 50 hari dari bulan September – November 2016. Sampel sebanyak 9 ekor tikus dibagi menjadi tiga kelompok yaitu : kelompok kontrol (P0) hanya diberikan paparan stres berupa cahaya, kelompok perlakuan 1 (P1) diberikan paparan stres berupa cahaya dan cairan kopi 1 mL/KgBb dan kelompok perlakuan 2 (P2) diberikan paparan stres berupa cahaya dan ekstrak kopi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbedaan yang signifikan pada konsentrasi dan motilitas spermatozoa kelompok perlakuan 1 (P1) terhadap kelompok kontrol (P0) yaitu p<0,05 dan perbedaan yang signifikan pada motilitas spermatozoa kelompok perlakuan 2 (P2) terhadap kelompok kontrol (P0) yaitu p<0,05. Pengumpulan data menggunakan lembar pengukuran <em>bleeding time</em>, yang dianalisa dengan uji ANOVA.</p><p><strong>Hasil: </strong>Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa didapatkan nilai <em>p</em>&lt;0.0001 dengan rerata waktu paling cepat antara kelompok perlakuan yaitu kelompok perlakuan dengan dosis 2g/kgBB (2.74±0.14). Some actions that can be done to overcome thrombocytopenia, one of which is with papaya leaf.</p><p><strong>Objectives:</strong> This study aims to analyze the effect of giving papaya leaf extract to bleeding time.</p><p><strong><em>Methods:</em></strong><strong> </strong>This research design uses true experimental with design of post-test only control group design. The sample in this study were 30 male mice (<em>Mus musculus</em>) divided into five groups. The first group as the negative control group (CMC Na 0.5%), the second group as the positive control (CMC Na 0.5%), the third group was given ethanol 96% extract papaya leaf dose 0.5g/kgBW, the fourth group was given ethanol 96% extract papaya leaf dose 1g/kgBW, the fifth group was given ethanol 96% extract papaya leaf dose 2g/kgBW. Data collection using measurement sheet of  bleeding time which were analyzed by ANOVA test.</p><p><strong><em>Results:</em></strong><strong> </strong>The results of this study showed that p&lt;0.0001 the fastest mean time occur between treatment groups that is treatment group with dose 2g/kgBW (2.74±0.14). In the bleeding time variables p&lt;0.0001 the fastest mean time occur between treatment groups that is treatment group with dose 2g/kgBW (2.74±0.14). This result shows that there are significant differences between every groups.</p><p><strong><em>Conclusion:</em></strong><strong> </strong>The conclusion of this research is giving papaya leaf extract can increase bleeding time.</p><p> </p><p><strong>KEYWORDS: </strong>leaf of papaya, bleeding time, thrombocytopenia.</p><p> </p>
