Abstract. Global Positioning System (GPS) technique has been extensively implemented in determination of crustal deformation globally. With the ability of providing solution up to milimeter (mm) level, this technique has proven to provide a precise estimate of site velocity that represents the actual motion of tectonic plate over a period. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the site velocity estimation from GPS-derived daily position of station, respective to the global plate motion model and predicted site velocity via Least-Squares Collocation (LSC) method within the tectonically active region of Sundaland. The findings have indicated that stations with precise velocity estimates were consistent with global plate model and predicted velocity, with velocity residuals of 5 mm – 10 mm. However, stations that were severely impacted by continuous earthquake events such as in Sumatra were believed to be induced by the impact with consistently large velocity residuals up to 37 mm. Following the outcomes, this study has provided an insight on the post-seismic decay period plate motion which are induced by continuous tectonic activities respective to modelled plate motion.

This study aimed to determine the impact of a soccer game on the creatine kinase (Ck) response and recovery and the specific Global Positioning System (GPS)-accelerometry-derived performance analysis during matches and comparing playing positions. A sample composed of 118 observations of 24 professional soccer teams of the Brazil League Serie A was recruited and classified according to playing positions, i.e., Left/Right Defenders (D = 30, age: 25.2 ± 5.8 years, height: 187 ± 5.5 cm, weight: 80 ± 5.8 kg), Offensive Midfielders (OM = 44, age: 25.1 ± 0.2 years, height: 177 ± 0.3 cm, weight: 73 ± 1.2 kg), Forwards (F = 9, age: 25.1 ± 0.2 years, height: 176.9 ± 4.3 cm, weight: 74.5 ± 2.1 kg), Left/Right Wingers (M = 23, age: 24.5 ± 0.5 years, height: 175 ± 1.1 cm, weight: 74 ± 4.4 kg), and Strikers (S = 12, age: 28 ± 0.2 years, height: 184 ± 1.0 cm, weight: 80 ± 1.4 kg). Blood Ck concentration was measured pre-, immediately post-, and 24 h postgame, and the GPS-accelerometry parameters were assessed during games. Findings demonstrated that Ck concentrations were higher at all postgame moments when compared with pregame, with incomplete recovery markers being identified up to 24 h after the game (range: 402–835 U/L). Moreover, Midfielders (108.6 ± 5.6 m/min) and Forwards (109.1 ± 8.3 m/min) had a higher relative distance vs. other positions (100.9 ± 10.1 m/min). Strikers [8.2 (8.1, 9.05) load/min] and Defenders [8.45 (8, 8.8) load/min] demonstrated lower load/min than Wingers [9.5 (9.2, 9.8) load/min], Midfielders [10.6 (9.9, 11.67) load/min], and Forwards [11 (10.65, 11, 15) load/min]. These results could be used to adopt specific training programs and recovery strategies after match according to the playing positions.

AbstractUsing an active transponder with the ERS-I and ERS-2 radar altimeters, the distance to the satellite was measured at a location close to the GRIP site, Greenland, at an altitude of 3.2 km. The measurement was executed while the transponder was in the “ice-tracking mode”. It includes a bias due to the propagation delay. The location of the transponder was determined using the global positioning system.The transponder signal was modeled and the distance from the altimeter to the effective reflection point of the transponder was determined. Since the transponder was located within 1 km of the ground tracks, the measurement was corrected for this offset. A correction was also done for the surface slope, resulting in the distance (plus bias) to the closest sub-satellite point on the surface of the (compact) snow.The transponder signal was then removed from the radar altimeter waveform, enabling the determination of the distance (plus bias from the altimeter to the first reflective surface within the snow. The différence between this distance and that obtained using the transponder was < 2 m. This shows that the surface which gives rise to the first return of the reflection agrees with the surface of the (compact, dry) snow at this high-altitude location. This is an important result to be used when studying ice-cap topography using satellite radar altimetry.

Abstract Processing of signals in Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers includes numerous signal and data operations leading to calculation of coordinates and velocities of satellites in global Earth-Centered Earth-Fixed (ECEF) frame of reference as well as pseudoranges and delta-ranges between the user and all the tracked GPS satellites. Further processing of these data consists in estimation of the user’s position, velocity and time (PVT) and nowadays it is usually realized by means of an Extended Kalman Filters (EKF). The choice of measuring data processed by the Kalman filter significantly influences the accuracy of navigation solution. In simpler GPS receivers, the estimation of user’s position and velocity is based on pseudoranges only, whereas in more advanced ones delta-ranges are also applied. The paper describes both possible solutions and compares the accuracy of estimation of the user’s position and velocity in both cases. The comparison is based on simulation results, which are included in the paper.

This paper proposed a new algorithm for optical flow-based monocular vision (MV)/ inertial navigation system (INS) integrated navigation. In this mode, a downward-looking camera is used to get the image sequences, which is used to estimate the velocity of the mobile robot by using optical flow algorithm. INS is employed for the yaw variation. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method, a real indoor test has done. The result shows that the proposed method has good performance for velocity estimation. It can be applied to the autonomous navigation of mobile robots when the Global Positioning System (GPS) and code wheel is unavailable.

The Mw 8.5 Bengkulu earthquake of 30 September 2007 and the Mw8.6 28 March 2005 are considered amongst large earthquake ever recorded in Southeast Asia. The impact into tectonic deformation was recorded by a network of Global Positioning System (GPS) Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) within southern of Sumatra and west-coast of Peninsular Malaysia. The GPS data from the GPS CORS network has been deployed to investigate the characteristic of postseismic deformation due to the earthquakes. Analytical logarithmic and exponential function was applied to investigate the deformation decay period of postseismic deformation. This investigation provides a preliminary insight into postseismic cycle along the Sumatra subduction zone in particular and on the dynamics Peninsular Malaysia in general.
