A natural disaster is a natural event that has a major impact on the human population. One of the natural events that became the focus of this PKM activity was an earthquake. Earthquakes are natural events in the form of vibrations or wavy movements on the earth's crust caused by internal forces. Earthquakes caused by shifting of the ground are called tectonic earthquakes and earthquakes caused by volcanoes are called volcanic earthquakes. Indonesia is an earthquake-prone area because it is located on three plates, namely the Eurasian Plate, the Pacific Plate, and the Indo-Australian Plate. Only in western, central and southern Kalimantan, the source of the earthquake was not found. To reduce the impact of risk during an earthquake, it is necessary to carry out an earthquake mitigation to the community in areas prone to earthquakes. Earthquake mitigation that will be carried out in this PKM activity is in the form of counseling through online webinars to prevent physical contact or crowds, related to the Covid19 pandemic. As a result, from the questions asked by participants, there is still a lack of understanding of the dangers of changing the function of the building or the building's use limit based on the design load and the condition of the building after the earthquake. So for the next PKM, it is recommended to make general information guidelines such as examples of photos or pictures about the condition of buildings that need to be reviewed for repairs or are no longer suitable for use after being hit by an earthquake.

This paper analyzes the pattern of earthquake mitigation messages using critical discourse analysis (CDA). It does so to seek the language patterns to understand how the texts represent earthquake mitigation procedures to target audiences. Materials and Method: Earthquake mitigation warning messages and infographics in offline and online public spaces were collected as data and analyzed using Fairclough’s framework. The texts that appeared in spaces like universities were too comprehensive, as emergency signs should be direct and straightforward. Other venues tended to focus on providing a persuasive and instructive message. Evaluation of the message should ensure that such messages are transparent and readable. Results: This paper’s findings can prevent unnecessary loss of life and property based on continuous disaster risk management through appropriate language usage in the mitigation warning system. Conclusion: It is hoped that society realizes the importance of warning messages. This is not only a sign for earthquake mitigation, but also a tool for communicating information regarding earthquakes and appropriate disaster emergency risk response.

After the 2018 Lombok earthquakes, buildings within the Engineering Faculty of the University of Mataram (FT Unram), were severely damaged and there have been no comprehensive treatments. Facilities to support earthquake mitigation, such as signs for evacuation routes and assembly points (temporary evacuation sites), are still minimal, and even if they are available many of them are not designed and placed properly. Some parts of the buildings have been partially renovated, meanwhile, there are new buildings constructions that have not been investigated related to disaster mitigation. Anticipating the re-occurrence of big earthquakes in Lombok, it is very necessary to carry out activities for implementing earthquake mitigation at FT Unram. The activities are divided into three stages, namely first: conducting direct reviews for inventory and documentation of all vulnerable points, followed by making of maps and building plans; second: determining the proper locations of assembly points, creating labels and signs for evacuation routes and assembly points, and making tutorial videos on safety instructions; third: socialization to the policymakers (Faculties and Department’s officials), and outreach as well as evacuation drill for all academic communities. The expected output of these activities is increasing of understanding and skills of the academic community in conducting disaster mitigation at their workplaces and application of technology as well as recommendations for disaster risk reduction policies at the faculty and university level.

The purpose of implementing community service is to encourage active participation of mosque takmirs in Bangunharjo Village, Sewon District, Bantul Regency to strengthen their role in handling tectonic earthquakes, especially mitigation. For this reason, activities are directed at enriching knowledge and technology about reducing the impact of earthquakes on the community in a sustainable manner by mosque leaders and administrators so that their role can be effective in mitigation activities. The appropriate participatory approach is an option in carrying out debriefing to motivate mosque administrators to be fully involved in mitigation activities as well as readiness to act and coordinate when an earthquake occurs. Important notes from the community that can be followed up are, among others, the need for assistance is very real, especially from information and technology in handling earthquake problems and strengthening socialization in the form of a curriculum that is more permanent and easy to implement in mosques, especially for children studying in TPA and congregation recitation. This segmentation is expected to be the success of disaster mitigation programs, especially those relating to earthquake mitigation issues related to the religious sector.

This study investigates speech act strategies used in earthquake mitigation handbooks in Japan, and focuses on finding the type of communicative functions of the speech act strategies used. The government of Japan has provided online and printed handbooks for the people, to reduce risks to a minimum level regarding the disaster so people can prepare beforehand. The data in this study were collected from online leaflet and handbook regarding earthquake mitigation provided by 9 government city’s websites, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and by collecting actual handbook and leaflets from Indonesian lives in Japan. The data were analysed using descriptive qualitative method. Collected data then categorized into assertive and directive speech acts, negative and positive politeness based on Brown and Levinson’s politeness theory, and focusing on expression of consideration (hairyo hyougen). This study found that there are 659 statements related to earthquake disaster mitigation collected from the data. Also, the findings showed that there are 179 assertive and 480 directives speech acts, with more of imperative directive speech than prohibition directive speech. Moreover, Japanese government tend to use hairyou hyougen on their leaflet and handbook disaster mitigation to show respect to the reader.
