Smart learning environments (SLE) provide students with opportunities to interact with learning resources and activities in ways that are customised to their particular learning goals and approaches. A challenge in developing SLEs is providing resources and tasks within a single system that can seamlessly tailor learning experience in terms of time, place, platform, and form. In this paper we introduce the iCollab platform, an adaptive environment where learning activities are moderated through conversation with an intelligent agent who can operate across multiple web-based platforms, integrating formal and informal learning opportunities. Fifty-eight undergraduate computer science students were randomly assigned to either an intervention or control group for the 12 weeks of the pilot study. Learning analytics were used to examine their interactions with iCollab, while their course performance investigated the impact of using iCollab on learning outcomes. Results from the study showed a high level of interaction with iCollab, especially social interaction, indicating an interweaving of formal learning within their informal network spaces. These findings open up new possibilities for ways that SLEs can be designed to incorporate different factors, improving the ability of the system to provide adaptive and personalised learning experiences in relation to context and time.

Smart Education requires bridging formal and informal learning experience. However, how to create contextualized learning resources that support this bridging remains a problem. In this paper, we propose to exploit the open data available in the Web to automatically create contextualized learning resources. Our preliminary results are promising, as our system creates thousands of learning resources related to formal education concepts and physical locations in the student’s local municipality. As part of our future work, we will explore how to integrate these resources into a Smart Learning Environment.

Introduction:The high level of morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular disease is largely due toinsufficient influence on the main risk factors that contribute to the development of myocardial infarction.Therefore, a detailed study and assessment of risk factors is among the most important problems of medical and social importance. The aim: To study and evaluate the impact of biological, social and hygienic, social and economic, psychological, natural and climatic risk factors on the development of myocardial infarction. Materials and methods: A sociological survey was conducted in 500 people aged 34 to 85. They were divided into two groups. The main group consisted of 310 patients with myocardial infarction. The control group consisted of 190 practically healthy people, identical by age, gender and other parameters, without diseases of the cardiovascular system. Results: It was defined that 30 factors have a significant impact on the development of myocardial infarction.Data analysis revealed that the leading risk factors for myocardial infarction were biological and socio-hygienic. The main biological factors were: hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. The man socio-hygienic factor was smoking. Conclusions: Identification of risk factors provides new opportunities for the development of more effective approaches for the prevention and treatment of myocardial infarction.

AbstractIn Smart Learning Environments, students need to be aware of their academic performance so they can self-regulate their learning process. Likewise, the teaching process can also be improved if instructors are able to supervise the progress of students, both individually and globally, and anticipate proper pedagogical strategies. Thus, effective Student Models, capable of identifying and predicting the level of knowledge of students, are a key requirement in modern educational systems. In this article, we revisit OSM-V, an Open Student Model with Information Visualization capabilities that allow students and instructors to assess performance-related information in educational systems. We detail its architecture and how it was integrated into Classroom eXperience, a Smart Learning Environment with multimedia capture capabilities. We also present extended results from experiments that evaluate both the perception of utility and behavioral changes in students who used OSM-V, showing that it can positively impact students’ learning and positively influence their study habits.

Postural balance is a key element of shooting effectiveness, which determines the outcome of modern pentathlon competitions. The aim of the study is to examine the postural balance of 27 pentathletes (12 females and 15 males; mean age: 18.0 ± 1.8 years), and 26 physically active, untrained subjects (12 females and 14 males; mean age: 22.5 ± 1.4 years), and to investigate the impact of footwear on the stability of the shooting position in pentathletes. Methods: Static postural balance was examined during quiet stance in four test conditions (standing in footwear with eyes opened, standing in footwear with eyes closed, standing barefoot with eyes opened, and standing barefoot with eyes closed). During each postural balance measurement, the participant remained still on the platform, with their arms in front of their body. Postural balance in the shooting position was only evaluated in the group of pentathletes. The athlete was asked to assume a comfortable shooting position on the platform and to aim at the target. Standard pentathlon targets and pistols were used in the study. Measurements were carried out twice (barefoot and in footwear). Results: In all conditions, pentathletes achieved lower values of posturographic measures than in the control group. In non-visual conditions, measures describing the surface area of the centre of pressure decreased in pentathletes and increased in the control group. Both pentathletes and non-athletes were equally stable barefoot as in footwear. Footwear did not affect postural sway in the shooting position in pentathletes. Conclusions: Pentathletes were found to have significantly better stance stability and were less vision-dependent in postural balance than untrained subjects. Bearing in mind that the shooting position of pentathletes was as stable barefoot as in footwear, the main factors which were most likely responsible for minimising body oscillations in the pentathletes were their high level of concentration and conscious control of body alignment.

The conventional education system in developing countries has been enhanced recently by implementing the latest technology of distributed ledger. Disruptive technology is a fundamental requirement for greater accountability and visibility. We explored the key factors affecting the intentions of educational institutions to use blockchain technology for e-learning. This study proposed an expanded model of Technology Acceptance Model by integrating the diffusion of innovation theory. Based on an online survey, the conceptual model was tested and validated using structural equation modeling. The results showed that compatibility had a significant impact on blockchain use in smart learning environments. Other significant effects were also found on adoption of blockchain technology. This study offers an expanded Technology Acceptance Model for implementing blockchain that could assist decision makers in building a smart learning environment for the educational institutes for the emerging economies.

Cooperative learning encourages the development of interpersonal skills and motivates students to participate more actively in the teaching and learning process. This study explores the impact of cooperative learning on the academic goals influencing university students’ behavior and leading to the attainment of a series of academic objectives. To this end, a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was used, with a sample of 509 university students from Preschool, Primary and Social Education undergraduate degree courses. Using the Academic Goals Questionnaire (AGQ), pretest and posttest measures were taken via self-reports to evaluate three types of academic goals: learning goals, social reinforcement goals and achievement goals. The results show that cooperative learning is an effective tool for encouraging university students to develop academic goals that motivate them to fully engage with the tasks they are set in order to acquire knowledge and skills (learning goals). In addition, when students are asked to work as part of a team on an autonomous basis without the structure and supervision necessary to ensure a minimum standard of cooperation, they display a greater tendency toward social reinforcement goals than toward learning and achievement goals. These findings contribute new knowledge to the conceptual framework on cooperative learning. Goals may be considered one of the most important variables influencing students’ learning and the use of cooperative learning techniques in university classrooms creates the necessary conditions for encouraging students to develop goals oriented toward learning.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, face-to-face instruction in the field of education has been replaced by online learning. As a result, to meet the learning goals, teachers must be innovative and creative while delivering online learning. Student Achievement with Edmodo is one alternate online learning choice. This analysis aims to explain the effects of the introduction of Edmodo-supported Student Achievement, as well as student reactions to this learning, and to provide a single learning method that is successful and can aid teaching and learning experiences for high school mathematics content during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study employs qualitative analysis approaches. The subjects of this research were five students from Tasikmalaya City's State Senior High School. Based on the outcomes of a few experiments, it was determined that the learning experience was enjoyable and aided students' comprehension of the Trigonometry content. Students are pleased with the learning experience provided, and they believe they have made improvements as a result of their participation in the learning. According to the effects of the impact size estimation, the implementation of the Student Achievement learning model is very accurate. Then, for general student assessment, Student Achievement learning with Edmodo is beneficial to introduce in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, so that it can be used as a substitute in online learning.

The main objective of this research is to determine teacher competency requirements that support appropriate learning methods and be able to increase students' high learning desires and establish good learning facilities to determine the achievement of quality graduates and love knowledge. This study is expected to investigate how competencies, learning methods and ideal learning infrastructure can be used to improve students' understanding and comfort of teaching and learning processes that support intellectual quality and love knowledge. This notion arose after discovering that teaching practices for the affective domain were ineffective. Students learn to pass examinations, not to love knowledge. Experiments are conducted for 1 (one) year or 2 semesters, in January - December 2019, to determine the impact of learning experiences on students' academic achievement. The research sample consisted of 10 English teachers and 20 students from the Vocational High School. The students are divided into two groups; the control group (10 students) and the experimental group (10 students). Both groups were taught the same topic and learning objectives for 2 hour. However, the control group was taught using lecture slides, group discussions and closed with a question and answer session. Meanwhile, the experimental group is taught using new instructional instruments that adapt learning experiences that are appropriate to the curriculum. During the teaching session, the teacher observes student participation in all their activities and behavior during the lesson session. To complete this study, tests are conducted to see the impact of the learning experience on students' academic achievement.

This research was conducted through two studies, the purposes of the first study were to assess tension and self-awareness levels among the tenth-grade male and female students in Qalqilia city in Palestine, and to examine the impact of gender on tension and self-awareness. To achieve these goals a descriptive method was used, the sample consisted of (158) male and (152) female students age 16 years old. They were stratified randomly selected. This study found tension appears to be a broad problem in Palestine among respondents, and it is chronically existent with a high level. On the other hand, this study proved that self-awareness among Palestinian adolescents is low. No significant differences in tension and self-awareness due to gender were found. The objective of study 2 was, to examine the effect of psychodrama on the levels of tension and self-awareness of tenth-grade male students in Qalqilia city using the two-matching group pretest-posttest design. The experimental group consisted of (10) students and they received a psychodrama group counseling program, in order to reduce tension and enhance self-awareness. While the control group received nothing. Based on the results psychodrama is an effective tool to treat tension and enhance self-awareness. It is suggested that for future studies to be from different grades and both gender with larger sample size. It is also recommended to assess tension and self-awareness in different regions in Palestine.


Teachers face many difficulties in the motivation, engagement, and improvement of learning outcomes for students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). In this paper, we present a research study on the learning experience of a new interactive educational 3D video game called Final Frontier, designed for primary school students. This game supports student knowledge acquisition on two Solar System planets Mercury and Venus, and a satellite - Moon through direct experience, interactive challenges and fun. This article compares the learning impact of the computer game-based learning approach with a classic teacher-based learning approach. User experience with the game and game usability are also evaluated. A case study that involved 53 children was conducted for the evaluation. Among the most important findings, include the facts that the experimental group that used the game in their learning activity have performed much better than the control group and the students had a great learning experience when using the Final Frontier game.
