Neonatal Intensive Care is defined as, “care for medically unstable and critically ill newborns requiring constant nursing, complicated surgical procedures, continual respiratory support, or other intensive interventions.” A NICU is a unit that provides high quality skilled care to critically ill neonates by offering facilities for continuous clinical, biochemical and radio logical monitoring and use of life support systems with the aim of improving survival of these babies. Intermediate care includes care of ill infants requiring less constant nursing care, but does not exclude respiratory support. Care of ill infants requiring less constant nursing care, but does not exclude respiratory support. When an intensive care nursery is available, the intermediate nursery serves as a “step down unit” from the intensive care area.

Background: Because routine nursing quality indicators are not suitable to evaluate pediatric oncology nursing care, this study aimed to identify a set of quality indicators for pediatric oncology nursing care in mainland China. Method: This prospective investigation utilized a modified Delphi technique and an analytic hierarchy process. A survey questionnaire was developed using a literature review and semi-structured interviews. Fifteen invited experts evaluated the importance of potential indicators through three rounds of Delphi survey by email in 2018. The importance weight of each indicator was identified through analytic hierarchy process. Results: In the Delphi survey, the average authoritative coefficient was 0.93–0.96 for each round of the inquiry. After three rounds of survey, 29 quality indicators were identified as important nursing outcomes for assessing the quality of pediatric oncology nursing care in mainland China. The importance rating mean score of indicators ranged between 4.67–5.00 on a 5-point scale, and the variation coefficient ranged between 0–0.19. Expert-assigned indicator importance weight varied between 0.0040–0.0870. Conclusion: This study identified an indicator system with 29 nursing-sensitive quality indicators that may represent potential indicator candidates for quality assessment of pediatric oncology nursing practice in mainland China.

Os documentos serão identificados em: PUBMED/Medline; LILACS; BVS; PsycInfo; Google Academico; SCOPUS e CINAHL, utilizando-se: “Families' Importance in Nursing Care ‐ Nurses' Attitudes” or “FINC-NA” or “Family Nursing Practice Scale”.

BACKGROUND No studies have been conducted on smart devices that provide integrated nursing for patients' urinary & bowel elimination needs. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the feasibility of a smart excretion care system tethered to Electronic Medical Record (EMR) in a tertiary hospital and community care setting and discuss the expectations of the reducing burden of nursing care. METHODS Focus group interviews were conducted based on the Consolidated Criteria for Reporting Qualitative Research Guidelines. The interviews were conducted in March, 2021, involving 67 participants who had worked at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital for more than one year and had experience assisting patients with excretion care. Data were collected using both purposive and snowball sampling methods. RESULTS This research found four themes relevant to the Smart Excretion Care System: expectations of reducing burdens of nursing care, applicable indications (by departments and diseases), preferred features/functions, and expected benefits of using the Smart Excretion Care system at the clinical facilities. Nurses from the Comprehensive Nursing Service wards were found to have the highest burden of excretion care. It was a common opinion that the Smart Excretion Care System would be very useful in the Intensive Care Unit, and it should be applied first to patients with stroke or dementia. CONCLUSIONS Excretion care is one of the most bothersome tasks for nurses that increase their workload. The further development of the Smart Excretion Care System, as a digital health intervention, can help improve nurses’work efficiency and reduce their burden as well as expand to caregivers and guardians.

The aim of the study is the analysis of educational needs of European intensive care nurses (ICNs) with regard to multicultural care. A mixed-method multinational study was performed among 591 ICNs coming from 15 European countries. An online survey was utilised with three research tools: participants’ sociodemographic details, Healthcare Provider Cultural Competence Instrument, and a tool to assess the educational needs of ICU nurses with respect to multicultural care. The highest mean values in self-assessment of preparation of ICU nurses to provide multicultural nursing care and their educational needs in this regard were detected in the case of nurses coming from Southern Europe (M = 4.09; SD = 0.43). With higher age, nurses recorded higher educational needs in the scope of multicultural care (r = 0.138; p = 0.001). In addition, speaking other languages significantly correlated with higher educational needs related to care of patients coming from different cultures (Z = −4.346; p < 0.001) as well as previous education on multicultural nursing care (Z = −2.530; p = 0.011). Experiences of difficult situations when caring for culturally diverse patients in ICU were classified into categories: ‘treatment procedures and general nursing care’, ‘family visiting’, ‘gender issues’, ‘communication challenges’, and ‘consequences of difficult experiences’. The educational needs of intensive care nurses in caring for culturally diverse patients are closely related to experiencing difficult situations when working with such patients and their families.
