The article examines the reasons that prompted the governments and expert circles of many EU countries to pay increased attention in the past two years to the activities of the Muslim Brotherhood (BM) religious and political association within the EU. According to the author, this is due not only to the terrorist attacks of Islamists in France and Austria in 2020, but also to the manifestations of the growing influence of this category of Muslim organizations and groups on the social and political life of the countries of the Old World. The article focuses on the analysis of the means, methods and mechanisms characteristic of the groupings associated with the structures of the Muslim Brotherhood in Europe, on their differences from similar organizations in the Middle East. The author turns to the history of the emergence and growth of the influence of the «brothers» in Europe in order to more thoroughly examine the phenomenon of today: while the authority and influence of the BM are noticeably falling in the Arab countries, in the Old World the situation is different for the «brothers» – in many cases they manage to hide their Islamist essence under the cover of left, «progressive» rhetoric, which allows them to fit into the current political and ideological discourse in the host countries. However, with the aggravation of intercivilizational relations in Europe, BM groups are increasingly forced to leave their traditional «hiding places», publicly claiming the status of «defenders of discredited Muslims», but in fact trying to legalize their radical views and positions. The resulting scale of their presence and influence in European societies noticeably frightens the establishment and the population of these countries. The author comes to the conclusion that at the current stage, an aggravation of the confrontation between the political elites in the EU countries and the BM structures is inevitable

The Centre for Culture and Education "Logos" in cooperation with the Institute for Religious and SocialResearch and the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Tuzla organized a scientific conference: "Religion, Politics, Secularism" on the 2nd and 3rd October 2020., with the participation of scientists from Bosnia and Herzegovina (B&H), Croatia and Serbia. The consideration of the historical connection between religion and politics, through the meaningful understanding of secularization, contextualizes on the margins of the modern era where one can read the meaning and significance of the historical destiny of B&H and its social, religious, confessional, national, and cultural subjects. From eleven contributions from this scientific conference, only one of them (Tadic, Sljivo 2020) explicitly, and three of them implicitly (Krivak 2020, Pešić 2020, Hodžić 2020) contextualize the subject of their studies in the narrow framework of the given theme: "Religion, Politics, Secularism". The other seven contributions, although theoretically and methodologically outside of the (self)referenced, conscious epochal relationship of religion, politics, and secularization, illuminate the aspects of the problems in the question in their own way, and sometimes from a quite unexpected angle.

Abstract Based on field research carried out over the last two decades, this article analyzes the labile nature of the relationship between religion and politics in Georgia. It aims to understand not only the rational and deliberate processes in which elites engage for political ends but also to grasp the diversity of actors and patterns of religion mobilization. It argues that three main types of articulations have developed since the 1990s: the mobilization of Orthodoxy (1) in the service of nation-building; (2) in the construction of an anti-elite popular identity; and (3) as a moral crusade. Each type of articulation involves specific social actors, organizational forms, and relations with political institutions.

On November 4th, 2019, Hans-Georg  Moeller delivered a presentation on  systems theory at the Law School of  the University of São Paulo and was  interviewed about Niklas Luhmann’s  theory of society, with emphasis on issues such as law, politics, and the  history of philosophy. Professor Moeller is the author of important books such as Luhmann explained: From souls to systems (Moeller, 2006) and The radical Luhmann (Moeller, 2011), the latter also translated to Japanese and Italian. He also works on Chinese philosophy and is currently Full Professor at the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Macau, China. Throughout the interview, professor Moeller situated Luhmann in the philosophical tradition of German idealism and presented the shift to second-order observation as a crucial aspect of contemporary society, in  religion and politics, science, economy and law. The interview was conducted partly in writing and partly in the form of a recorded and transcribed debate.

Significance Lithuania is the most religious: the predominant Roman Catholic Church’s socio-political influence has been increasing regarding the still-sensitive issues of LGBT+ and women’s rights. Patriarchal values are helping traditional religious entities regain influence in Latvia. Estonia is the most successful in separating religion and politics. Impacts In Latvia and Lithuania, religious and social conservatism will together hinder gender equality. The outlook for gender equality and human rights is better in Estonia. The president’s Catholicism will align Lithuania’s EU stance more towards Poland, its larger Catholic neighbour. Vilnius’s Jewish heritage -- culture, festivals, food and drink, and the surviving synagogue-- will attract West European tourists.
