This edition brings together representative transcriptions of folk songs and ballads in the British-Irish-American oral tradition that have enjoyed widespread familiarity throughout twentieth-century America. Within are the one hundred folk songs that most frequently occurred in a methodical survey of Roud's Folk Song Index, catalogues of commercial early country (or “hillbilly”) recordings, and relevant archival collections. The editors selected sources for transcriptions in a broad range of singing styles and representing many regions of the United States. The selections attempt to avoid the biases of previous collections and provide a fresh group of examples, many heretofore unseen in print. The sources for the transcriptions are recordings of traditional musicians from the 1920s through the early 1940s drawn from (1) commercial recordings of “hillbilly” musicians, and (2) field recordings in the collection of the Library of Congress's Archive of American Folk Song, now part of the Archive of Folk Culture. Each transcription is accompanied by a brief contextualizing essay discussing the song's history and influence, recording and performance information (whenever available), and an examination of the tune. The edition begins with a substantive essay about the history of folk song recordings and folk song scholarship, and the nature of traditional vocal music in the United States.

At the end of the 19th century, a certain amount of work was done to record, collect and popularize Uzbek folklore, including scholars studying oriental studies, local history, geography, archeology and other areas in Turkestan, as well as educational work. They translated folk legends, legends, fairy tales, proverbs and sayings, the songs they heard or wrote, often translated them into Russian and published them in periodicals, including them in their studies, literary and journalistic works, and travel notes. One of the specialists who contributed to the collection of folk art, in particular fairy tales, proverbs and songs, is the famous orientalist, ethnographer Nikolai Petrovich Ostroumov. The article analyzes the folkloristic activities of the orientalist N.P. Ostroumov based on the recordings of Uzbek folk ritual songs stored in the Central State Archives of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The folk songs have been well flourished in Malayalam Literature. The Malayalam folk songs entirely different from the Tamil folk songs. But it is fact that the structure of Malayalam Pattu has been adopted from the Tamil Literature and we could understand that the Tamil structure has been following even today. Folk songs have a special place in Malayalam Literature. Folk songs in Malayalam are categorized into community songs, Worship songs, Professional songs and celebration songs etc. This study has been analysis the Types and forms of folk songs which related to worshiped.

The phenomenon of Arno Nadel (1878–1943) is presupposed by his extremely diverse activities in art, scholarship, and musical journalism. A music arranger, musicologist, music journalist and collector, composer, choirmaster, pianist and organist, as well as a poet, playwright, painter and translator, Arno Nadel was born in a religious Jewish family in Vilnius and spent his first twelve years there. Having lived and studied in Königsberg for five years, in 1895 Nadel settled in Berlin, one of the largest centres of German Jewish cultural life before the National Socialists came to power in 1933. Nadel was murdered in Auschwitz in 1943. So far, his creative legacy has not been studied in Lithuania. The aim of this article is to bring Nadel back on the horizon of multinational Lithuanian cultural history and to review his contribution to the formation of modern German-Jewish identity in the context of Nadel’s Vilnius origins and his diverse musical activities. Nadel’s original compositions, arrangements of traditional Jewish liturgical music and folk songs, research in and texts about Jewish music contributed to a new approach towards cultural connections between the Jews of Eastern Europe and Germany, and were important for the development of German Jewish music in the first half of the twentieth century, as well as for the documentation and renewal of Jewish liturgical music. Although Arno Nadel composed music in a variety of genres himself, it was his work as a scholar and arranger of Jewish music and as a musicologist that received the most attention among his contemporaries and in the articles written after the Second World War.

The purpose of the research is to study contemporary musical culture and reveal the specifics of Ukrainian song folklore stylization in academic and non-academic practice. The research methodology is aimed at using a comparative method, with the help of which the difference between the processing of a folk song and the stylization of folklore is highlighted. The method of analysis is implemented to highlight the essential features of stylized folklore. Using the synthesis method, the results of research from academic and non-academic musical creativity have been extrapolated, in which the introduction of the stylization of folklore has been discovered. The scientific novelty of the research is examining the symbiosis of composer and folk art, as a result of which stylized song folklore appears in the modern musical culture of Ukraine. Conclusions. In the modern musical culture of Ukraine, the principle of stylization of song folklore is widely used. The introductions of adaptations of folk sources, along with stylization, are two options for the interaction of composer and folk art. The stylization is characterized by a deep interpenetration of elements of the author’s and folklore principles, which is accompanied by the formation of an original musical text that has a genetic relationship with folk Melos. The author’s text, which traces the presence of folk songs stylization, often includes typical intonational complexes with small ambitus, repetition of rhythmic formulas, and the prevalence of the variant-variative principle of the musical fabric development. The literary text of works related to the stylization of folklore is characterized by the use of folk texts or dialectics, lexemes that liken a vocal work with folklore. The effectiveness of folk stylization in musical culture is enhanced by the use of an authentic folk singing manner. The stylization of folklore is inherent both in the works of the leading classics of the Ukrainian composing school and in groups working in different directions of non-academic music of our time.
