In recent years, the topic of UK-domiciled undergraduate students from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds not accessing, succeeding and progressing as well as their White peers in Higher Education (HE) has gained increased policy and media attention. Institutions are required to address gaps amongst student groups that are underrepresented within HE, including students from BAME backgrounds, through their Office for Students' (OfS) regulated Access and Participation Plan (APP). This paper offers specific examples of how Edge Hill University, a university in North West England, has begun to approach this work in the new regulatory environment. APPs now place an increased emphasis upon research informed practice, student engagement, consultation, and evaluation. This innovative practice article provides a detailed example of genuine collaboration and coproduction with students to develop and deliver APP work, and extends an earlier presentation delivered at the March 2021 Open University Access Participation and Success International Biennial Conference. In this article, the authors outline the development of a new Diversity Access Programme and a BAME Student Advisory Panel. The paper offers a reflective account of how APP leads, Widening Participation (WP) practitioners, evaluators and students can work together effectively in partnership to design and deliver WP initiatives.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate knowledge sharing practices among health sciences librarians in African countries. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was employed. The study population consisted of African health sciences librarians that attended the 16th Biennial Conference of the Association for Health Information and Libraries in Africa on October 14–18, 2019, at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The types of knowledge most commonly shared by respondents were information on conferences, workshops, and seminars as well as information on new trends and technologies in librarianship. The main avenue of knowledge sharing was face-to-face interaction. Unwillingness to share knowledge and a lack of awareness about current trends and issues were the top identified challenges to knowledge sharing. Conclusion: These survey results establish the existence of a low level of knowledge sharing among health science librarians in Africa and suggest that concerted efforts should be made to overcome barriers to knowledge sharing within and across African countries.

AbstractResearch, innovation, and progress in the life sciences are increasingly contingent on access to large quantities of data. This is one of the key premises behind the “open science” movement and the global calls for fostering the sharing of personal data, datasets, and research results. This paper reports on the outcomes of discussions by the panel “Open science, data sharing and solidarity: who benefits?” held at the 2021 Biennial conference of the International Society for the History, Philosophy, and Social Studies of Biology (ISHPSSB), and hosted by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL).

AbstractOrgan regeneration is an important, fascinating, and old topic while much remains unknown in spite of extensive investigations for decades. From March 25th to 27th, 2021, the Third Chinese Symposium on Organ Regeneration took place in the beautiful ocean city of Zhoushan, Zhejiang, China. This biennial conference attracted ~ 300 academic attendees: students, postdoctoral fellows, and principal investigators, in addition to few industrial investigators. The mixed live and virtual talks covered the broad field of organ regeneration from different animal organisms to human organoids, and concluded with some impressive advances on inflammatory signaling, regenerative signaling mechanisms, new technologies, and applications for organ regeneration.

It is a great honor for us, Faculty of Forestry of Hasanuddin University, to host the 2nd Biennial Conference of Tropical Biodiversity 2021 (BCTB) 2021 on August 4th - 5th, 2021, in Makassar City of South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia. This conference is a series of international scientific seminars held by the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Hasanuddin, Makassar, Indonesia, held biennially since 2018. In addition, The proceedings of BCTB have been published in the IOP conference series: Earth and Environmental Science (EES). Biodiversity is evenly distributed and varies widely across the world and within regions, the diversity of which is highly dependent on environmental factors such as temperature, rainfall, altitude, soil geography, and the presence of other species. Biodiversity is also essential in supporting ecosystem services, including air quality, climate, carbon dioxide absorption, water purification, pollination, and erosion prevention. Rapid environmental changes have led to many mass extinctions of species. Therefore, protecting its existence has become one of the most significant challenges humanity has to face. The Biennial Conference of Tropical Biodiversity is a scientific forum to enhance science and technology, together with researchers, scientists, practitioners, and scholars to anticipate the impacts of climate change in biodiversity. This is also conducted to promote Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Hence, this conference chose an SDGs-related theme, namely “Managing Challenges in Biodiversity Conservation During The Pandemic to Achieve Sustainable Development Goals for Better Environment” with six sub-themes: 1. Assessment of global biodiversity: the impact of a pandemic to biodiversity. 2. The existence of genetic diversity to maintain biodiversity. 3. Community partnership for biodiversity conservation. 4. Biodiversity and utilization. 5. The conservation of tropical biodiversity: current challenges for the management. 6. Ecological risk and natural disaster. The Biennial Conference of Tropical Biodiversity will be held every two years. The first was in 2018, and the second should be in 2019. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the conference was postponed to be this year (2021). Hence, the conference model has performed with a virtual conference instead of a live meeting. This conference presents keynote speakers from 5 countries, namely Prof. Enrico Bonello from Ohio State University, USA, Dr. Doan Nainggolan from Aarhus University-Denmark, Prof. Erin P. Riley from San Diego State University-USA, Dr. Ida Ayu Pradnya Resosudarmo from Australian National University-Australia, and Prof. Supratman from Hasanuddin University-Indonesia. The plenary session and discussion for all speakers were for 3 hours. Participant presentations (oral and video presentations) were held in 3 sessions, and each session was divided into ten rooms. The number of participants per room was 15-20 participants with an allocation of presentations for 5 minutes/participant conducted in parallel as many as three parallel sessions. Discussions sessions were held in parallel in each parallel session with an allocation of 3 minutes per participant. The Virtual BCTB conference implementation applied the zoom meeting application provided by the Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Hasanuddin. List of Conference Committee & Reviewer BCTB 2021 are available in this pdf.

Cilj. Ključne riječi: međuknjižnična posudba, MKP, dostava dokumenata, opskrba dokumenata, e-izvori, znanstvene informacije Rad je na hrvatskom jeziku prezentiran na Stručnom skupu Izgradnja, upravljanje i evaluacija zbirki, 12.4.2019., Zagreb, Hrvatska, a na engleskom jeziku na konferenciji River of no Return: Sail or Sink: 18th Biennial Conference of the European Association of Aquatic Sciences Libraries and Information Centres (EURASLIC), 6-9.5.2019., Zagreb, Hrvatska. Prošireni sažetak na engleskom jeziku je objavljen u zborniku konferencije EURASLIC
