In today's competitive business environment, information systems are not a luxury; rather they are vital for survival. A new generation of ISs has been established on cloud capabilities. Moving toward software as a service is not the goal in a business, and if not implemented properly, competitive advantage may even suffer. Managers and change agents should undertake deep study over SaaS implementation before migration. In this chapter, the main elements and features in which CEOs and IT managers should consider in evaluating the SaaS migration option will be provided, and enterprises may be acquainted with the concept, goals, and theoretical foundations of SaaS as a main cloud-based service in the business environment. On the other hand, businesses should undertake some necessary changes in the operating circumstances which are utilization of a proper and modified business models established over a knowledge base strategic movement. This will lead enterprises to achieve the main goals of migrating to SaaS and cloud platforms (i.e., agility, competitive advantage, and innovation).

Modern studies have asserted the role of emotions on decision-making abilities. The study examines the role of emotional intelligence on decision styles of managers and the mediating role of emotional labor in enhancing decision styles of managers in selected Indian IT firms. The research is an empirical study proposing an affective EI-EL-DM model through a survey of 300 managers of 10 MNCs in the Indian IT industry using stratified sampling technique. The survey instrument includes 83 items with Schutte et al. AES tool, Naring et al. D-QEL tool, and Scott and Bruce GDMS. Middle-level IT managers have been found to frequently, leading to avoidant, spontaneous, or dependent decision-making yielding adverse outcomes. High EI is related to frequent usage of rational and intuitive decisions besides effective use of deep acting. Emotional labour influences all decision-making abilities. HR practices are recommended to improve the decision styles of IT managers through high EI and EL.


There is an accelerated migration from on-premise ERP to Cloud ERP systems in many industries, but this transition is relatively slow in the healthcare industry. To address this concern, we developed a research model based on Technology-Organization-Environment (TOE) framework, and explored it in the healthcare industry through semi-structured interviews with IT managers and finance managers. We found noticeable differences between small-sized and large-sized healthcare organizations, as well as the perceptions of IT managers and finance managers in Cloud ERP adoption decisions. We discussed these findings, and proposed future research questions on Cloud ERP adoption in the healthcare industry.

The present work aimed to carry out a study on the variation of liquidity and indebtedness of companies listed on the Bovespa Index of B3, for the four quarters of 2020, a period in which the world economy went through instabilities and imbalances due to the pandemic of Covid-19. Financial management is essential for companies, as without it managers can make inefficient decisions, which can negatively impact the company and its finances. The absence of good financial management can cause negative impacts on the company, especially in times of crisis, such as the period of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, for a business to have good results, it is necessary to create strategies to manage the company's finances, including periodic liquidity and indebtedness analysis. Thus, the Current Liquidity Ratio (ILC) and the Cash Ratio(CI) were used to determine the liquidity of companies and their transformations for the period analyzed. For indebtedness, we sought to analyze the Liabilities/Assets Index and the Third-Party Capital/Equity Index. Data were collected from the Standardized Financial Statements (DFP) and Quarterly Information (ITR) available on the B3 page. In the analysis of this work, companies from the financial sector were excluded due to the incompatibility of accounting standards and the methodology addressed in the work. It was verified in the results that, on average, companies underwent a substantial increase in liquidity in 2020, mainly in the second quarter, in which there was an average increase, among the companies analyzed, of 33.18% in the Cash ratio. The Industrial Goods, Oil, Gas and Biofuels and Public Utilities sector had the greatest increases in liquidity in the period. In terms of indebtedness, it could be seen that there was an increase in the participation of third-party capital, but less significant than the increase in liquidity of companies. This suggests that liquidity was financed by reallocation of company assets and policies aimed at exchanging the companies' current liabilities for non-current liabilities. It is concluded that in periods of uncertainty, such as the COVID-19 Pandemic, one of the priorities of companies is in fact to strengthen cash through asset reallocation, liability refinancing and contracting of credit lines.

Organizations are currently using the potential of IT to achieve their strategic objectives. IT governance ensures that decisions related to information technologies are aligned with business needs and strategies. One of the best practices to introduce a culture of IT governance is the implementation of the IT project portfolio. However, there is a lack of studies that support this claim. We developed a rubric to evaluate the portfolio of IT projects of a university to determine its strategic nature and its alignment with the principles of IT governance. After a phase of qualitative research, we designed a survey to collect quantitative data in a real scenario. We contrasted these data with the estimated scenario through the results obtained in the previous phase. The objective of this research is to validate and improve the starting proposal as a result of qualitative research. This survey has been answered by Spanish public universities that have implemented a portfolio of IT projects and whose IT managers are aware of the ISO/IEC 38500 standard and its principles. The results have allowed us to design a rubric that can be used by universities to evaluate the relationship between the elements and the advantages of the IT project portfolio and its alignment with IT governance.

Data security is a critical concern for organizations. In a rush to protect data, some IT managers overlook the important first step of data classification and instead focus on implementing the strictest controls on all data to reduce risk. To investigate organizational processes surrounding data classification, we conduct interviews with 27 CISOs in 23 organizations. We develop a model that identifies the common themes of data classification and their interrelationships. The most common driver for data classification is compliance with data privacy regulations and security standards. Collaboration and employee education are essential to the process. Increases in employee awareness of data security risk and improvements in data hygiene are outcomes. Challenges to data classification include the increase in IT landscape complexity, maintenance of an accurate data inventory, immaturity of automated tools, limited resources, and user compliance. Our model provides insights for practitioners and identifies areas of interest for researchers.

Enterprise Architecture (EA) allows firms to create value on the firm and operational levels. This paper argues that firms’ EA-driven dynamic capabilities lead to innovative value-creating actions and, ultimately, improve organizational benefits. Hence, we propose a theoretical model that explains how these dynamic capabilities enable the innovativeness of firms. Moreover, we explain the contingent role of an organic firm structure and its relation to firm innovativeness. Data within this study is collected from 299 CIOs and IT managers. This study uses a variance-based approach and a complementary fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to analyze the model’s hypothesized relationships. Our study outcomes demonstrate a positive relationship between EA-driven dynamic capabilities and firms’ innovativeness as well as between innovation and organizational benefits. Our post-hoc analyses using fsQCA reveal various circumstances in which organic firm structure and valuable, rare, inimitable, and non-substitutional (VRIN) firm resources are particularly relevant for firms to obtain high levels of firm innovativeness.

The selection of an IT manager in a company has an important role in a decision, because a manager occupies a managerial level position who will make decisions later. The current process of selecting IT managers is still being carried out conventionally, resulting in several problems. Among them, the assessment is carried out manually so that the calculation process can occur errors and take longer, then which alternative is the best according to the recommendation of the decision support system (DSS) application. To overcome some of these problems, a DSS was designed which resulted in more precise and effective decisions. The method used is the Profile Matching method which is used to determine alternative rankings, where the criteria and weight values ??have been determined and are contained in the assessment document. This research produces a web-based DSS application that helps decision making in selecting IT managers. This DSS application will simplify the calculation of the assessment thereby reducing calculation errors. The end result of implementing DSS for the selection of IT managers is that the selection process becomes more precise, effective and objective
