Police calls for service are an important conduit by which officers and researchers can obtain insight into public requests for police service. Questions remain, however, about the quality of these data, and, particularly, the prevalence of measurement error in the classifications of events. As part of the present research, we assess the accuracy of call-types used by police dispatchers to describe events that are responded to by police officers. Drawing upon a sample of 515,155 calls for police service, we explore the differences among initial call-types, cleared call-types, and crime-types as documented in crime reports. Our analyses reveal that although the majority of calls for service exhibit overlap in their classifications, many still exhibit evidence of misclassification. Our analyses also reveal that such patterns vary as a function of call- and crime-type categories. We discuss our findings in light of the challenges of the classification process and the associated implications.

This article is devoted to the representation of violence in modern media, in particular — to the features that are inherent in such materials, and also examines the impact of violence in journalistic materials on the audience that consumes the content. The media, as an institution of mass communication, has several basic functions, which are both derived from the needs of society and based on the interests of a particular member of society. At the moment, the attention of many researchers is closely drawn to the influence of the content of various media on the audience, the formation of the perception of individual individuals. Scientists have proven that one of the things that attracts a person is violence, because the audience is interested in «bad» news, watches crime reports. But media violence is still one of the stumbling blocks in contemporary discourse. In the article, we will consider what features are inherent in materials covering cruelty in general and crimes in particular, identify the level of influence of consumed content on the formation of individual characteristics, and also analyze a number of aggressive behavior of the audience depending on the materials

E-Verify laws, which have been adopted by 23 states, require employers to verify whether new employees are eligible to legally work prior to employment. This study explores the impact of state E-Verify laws on crime. Using data from the 2004–2015 National Incident Based Reporting System, the authors find that the enactment of E-Verify is associated with a 7% reduction in property crime incidents involving Hispanic arrestees. This finding was strongest for universal E-Verify mandates that extend to private employers and its external validity bolstered by evidence from the Uniform Crime Reports. Supplemental analyses from the Current Population Survey suggest two mechanisms to explain this result: E-Verify-induced increases in the employment of low-skilled natives of Hispanic descent and out-migration of younger Hispanics. Findings show no evidence that arrests were displaced to nearby jurisdictions without E-Verify or that violent crime or arrests of African Americans were affected by E-Verify laws. The magnitudes of the estimates suggest that E-Verify laws averted $491 million in property crime costs to the United States.

Different types of crimes are factors negatively affecting tourism worldwide. However, managers and even tourists themselves are refraining from submitting crime reports and whistleblows. The main goal of the study is to analyze the attitude of the hotels’ managers on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, regarding the submission of whistleblows to the competent authorities. In particular, managers of hotels in Albena, Golden Sands, Dunes, St. Constantine and Helena, and Sunny Beach are studied. The main research hypothesis is that hotel managers should ensure the safety of guests by reducing gaps in the control environment, preventing financial frauds, helping for environmental protection, and supporting the process of reporting crimes and suspicious behavior in the hotels. However, the current management policy relies mainly on the installed security devices and the Security Department staff. This results in applying no specific internal rules, procedures, and training for non-security department employees, regarding crime identification and timely reporting. The adopted research methods are based on the logical, deductive, and comparative methods, as well as on the methods of analysis and synthesis. For the empirical study, the method of in-depth interviews is used. The results of the study support the literature by presenting more in-depth data regarding the used security devices and assets by Bulgarian Black Sea resort hotels. Also, more data on the attitude of hotel managers on the safety and security of tourists and the submission of whistleblows, as a factor for sustainable development of tourism on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, is presented.

The relevance of studying the stage of initiating a criminal case, in general, and checking reports of crimes and incidents, in particular, is not in doubt, since it is at this stage that the foundations are laid for making a procedural decision to initiate a criminal case or to refuse to initiate it, which meets the principle of legality. In the institutions of the penitentiary system, procedural activity is specific, since it is associated with a special mode of functioning of institutions and the social environment, determined by the criminal subculture. The article is devoted to the study of the concept, essence and meaning of checking reports on crimes and incidents in the institutions of the penitentiary system. The most common methods of checking reports of crimes such as obtaining explanations, conducting an inspection of the scene of the incident are considered. The activity under consideration is not without problems. Some of them are analyzed, concerning the completeness of the information in the report on the detection of signs of a crime and obtaining explanations from convicted persons and the way to solve them. In order to comply with the legality of procedural activities in institutions and bodies of the penitentiary system when considering reports of crimes and incidents, it is proposed to develop methodological recommendations containing criminal procedural and criminalistic aspects of the activity under consideration which should be provided to all subordinate bodies and institutions.

[1, 2]. 1, 319cases were also reported nationwide in 1986 [1, 3]. Police records did not match hospital records for third degree burn cases among younger married women; far more violence occurs than the crime reports indicate [1, 4]. Methodology: Pub Med and Google search engines were searched to search previously done studies. Data was taken from NCBR, India. Census of India and data was taken for the year 2019 and 2017 respectively. Data was made worth for the study, so that proper conclusions could be made. Analysis was performed after implementation of correlation coefficient, regression coefficient and t test. Results and conclusions were made thereafter. Results: The statistically significant correlation coefficient was found to be -0.329.The ANOVA table was also found indulged significantly. Study concluded enhancement in literacy may pullout dowry deaths. t test reflected a significant value 1.8 (p<0.5). Discussion: Results were showing significant values, those could be interpreted, dowry deaths may fall if literacy rates are increased.

The crime rate in India has been on a rise with growing population and rapid development. Crimes are a social nuisance and brings disrepute to the society and nation at large. Data mining techniques have enabled models to predict crime. The law enforcement officers and police personnel’s need to spend umpteen time to analyze crime from the crime reports published by National Crime Records Bureau and respective State police departments. Therefore, there is necessity of a mechanism which can predict crime by identifying factors responsible for increase in crime rate. This project is an attempt to address this. Socio-economic variables like poverty, urbanization, literacy, and the demographic and social composition of the population are recorded from Census data. Machine Learning algorithms namely Multiple Linear Regression, Random Forest Regressor and Generalized Linear Models are trained and deployed. These algorithms have been implemented assuming both linear and non-linear ship of data and subsequent results have been compared. Further, choropleth maps have been plotted to represent and understand data in a simple way. The results show that socio-economic factors are good indicator in explaining crime rates and good performance is observed with few models
