Corporate governance is a very significant concept, however, there is another factor, which affects the profitability of corporations with equal importance - the employee. Research in this area helps to increase such awareness and to fulfill everyday needs in order to improve the functioning of many entities. In this regard, the study uses a sample that comprises 100 employees (50 from corporations and 50 from small companies). Through direct research tools such as questionnaires, this article shows more insights into the described matter. Different perspectives enable readers to create the full view. Most respondents prefer to work at small companies, nevertheless, corporations also have strong points. The study results may be used as a practical application for a wide range of people - from regular employees to managers and CEOs to create modern entities based on developed management and a practical approach towards an employee.

From small companies to major enterprises, the COVID-19 pandemic put us all to test. While it has left us facing an unpredictable future, it also offers us the chance to create a self-sufficient and self-reliant India, or “Atma Nirbhar Bharat.” The motivation towards a self-reliant India became stronger after the border conflict with China. Being dependent on China for both finished products and raw material, it is imperative for India to reduce this dependence. The “Atma Nirbhar Bharat” needs to be planned and executed as a nationwide program comprising several projects. Successful execution of this program needs to follow a systematic project management approach. This chapter tries to develop a blueprint for planning and execution of this program which is aimed at a self-reliant India.

Development of musculoskeletal disorders caused by awkward postures are present in tasks performed in small companies. Consequently, this chapter evaluates the postural risk level associated to the task of changing brake pads of a forklift, and proposes the design and the implementation of an ergonomic bench that helps to reduce this level of postural risk. As methods, postural risk level corresponding to the task was determined using REBA, whereas anthropometric analysis was developed, and axiomatic design and TRIZ methodologies were used to develop the proposed design. Results showed a REBA score of 8 (high-risk level). The final design is done of nylamid, and it contains some TRIZ principle, such as copying, extraction, and dynamicity. Respect axiomatic design, the bench meets some functional requirements, such as support the user's weight, avoid unsafety conditions, and be adjustable. With the TRIZ principles and functional requirements, this bench will help diminish postural risk level.

For many small and start-up software companies, implementing controls and structures to properly manage their software development activity is a major challenge. It is commonly agreed that very small software companies, implementing management procedures, and controls to appropriately administer their software development activity is a significant challenge. To help meet the need for VSE-specific systems and software lifecycle profiles and guidelines, the ISO/IEC jointly published ISO/IEC 29110 “Lifecycle profiles for Very Small Entities” series of standards and guides, with the overall objective being to assist and encourage very small software organization in assessing and improving their software. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a primer on the ISO/IEC 29110 standard focusing on two main process areas of Project Management and Software Implementation.

This chapter covers important topics in development of efficient energy girds. Inefficient power generation, unbalanced consumption patterns that lead to underutilization of expensive infrastructure on the one hand, and severe overload on the other, as well as urgent issues of national and global concern such as power system security and climate change are all driving this evolution. As the smart grid concept matures, we'll see dramatic growth in green power production: small production devices such as wind turbines and solar panels or solar farms, which have fluctuating capacity outside of the control of grid operators. Small companies that specialize in producing power under just certain conditions will boom in forthcoming years. Energy is stored in the storage during low-cost periods, and the stored energy is used during high-cost periods to avoid the expensive draw from the grid. The authors evaluate the impact of large-scale energy storage adoption on grid electricity demand.

Purpose: to investigate the entrepreneurial intention profile of the employees of startups and small companies in the technology segment of the State of Rio Grande do Sul, when they working to an organization. Methodology: descriptive research, using a quantitative approach, using the survey method. The data collection instrument was the questionnaire, based on the model by Kristiansen & Indarti (2004). Findings: the results demonstrate that more than 60% of the respondents intend to undertake, especially when perceiving themselves as a desired professional in the job market. Theoretical contributions: the study contributes theoretically to studies of entrepreneurial intent in Brazil, mainly because it provides a view outside the sphere of higher education institutions, the setting for most of the studies already published. Originality: when conducting a survey of data on Startups and Small Companies in the Technology segment, in the State of Rio Grande de Sul, it was found a small number of employees involved in the operations of these businesses, but with a good percentage interested in undertaking. Contributions to management: the study contributes to the advance of management in the sectors of startups and the technology area of Rio Grande do Sul, by identifying that incentive work and skills development can generate new business partnerships within the startups themselves, generating growth and competitive potential.

Serverless computing is a new and still evolving type of cloud computing, which brings a new approach to the development of information systems. The main idea of serverless is to give an approach of doing computing without dealing with a server to a user. Such approach allows to reduce the cost of the system building and system support. It allows small companies to concentrate on their own system designing instead of thinking about infrastructure building and supporting. Also, a big problem of providing the system security on high level is on cloud’s provider engineering support service. Serverless approach allows to start business quickly without huge initial investment. There is an attempt to completely analyze features, benefits and drawbacks of serverless approach, its use cases and main patterns of Serverless architecture. What is more, different providers have been analyzed.

The present study aims to analyze the institutionalization of personnel recruitment and selection processes in a small family business. In order to achieve the proposed objective, a case study was carried out in a company in the food trade branch located in the northwest of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. As a data collection technique, a semi-structured interview and observation of the location was used. The data were analyzed using Bardin's content analysis. The results demonstrated that the institutionalization of the recruitment and selection processes of people is directly related to the performance of the owner of this enterprise, being that he is responsible for coordinating the actions that define the requirements for the vacancy, the form of disclosure and the interview of selection. The standards implicit in the company are typical of the small family business, where family members assume the role of managing different areas of the organization. It was suggested that further research be carried out in small companies in other Brazilian locations, in order to expand the discussions addressed by the present study. Key-words: Institutional theory; People management; Human Resources.

For some time, renewable solar energy generations using cellular photovoltaic panels have stood out among the options, especially in the segment of micro and small companies, where the return on investment is usually higher. In this context, when micro and small companies do not have the capital for the enterprises, several others, mainly small ones, have emerged to finance. However, significant difficulties occur for financiers in selecting investment portfolios, especially when considering the trade-off between return and risk and the covariations of return on investment, which are very common. In this type of selection, the Capital Asset Pricing Model criteria using the Gini risk can help significantly because this one is a more robust risk coefficient for assessments of non-normal probability distributions. However, searches for methods that meet the selection needs using the adjacent criteria are unsuccessful. Thus, this work seeks to help minimize the gap by presenting a new method for selection using the criteria. Historical and simulations data stochastic evaluations indicate that the portfolios selected by the method are attractive options for implementations. These portfolios have reasonable probabilistic expectations and satisfactory protection to avoid mistakes caused for not considering covariations in return on investment, which indicates a significant advance on the current knowledge frontier and will likely allow the increased use of the concept. The method also presents theoretical contributions in adaptations of the benchmark models, which help to minimize the adjacent literary gap of similar methods.
