<p>Pedestrian bridge design is becoming more demanding and challenging as architects and engineers utilize the full measure of design ability available with current design software. This presentation will review the design process for the more unique aspects of this suspension bridge. The presentation will conclude with lessons learned during the design process. Observations from the design of this bridge will form the basis of recommendations for the enhanced design and testing specifications for cable supported bridges.</p>

Globally, teaching-learning has been in a severe transition due to COVID-19. Amid pandemic, education in universities had to shift from physical boundaries to online mode. The purpose of the study was to examine online learning mode particularly with respect to learner’s readiness, their involvement, fair assessment and satisfaction at university level. The objectives of the study were; to explore the perceived level of readiness of students for online learning, find out their involvement and participation in online mode while performing various educational tasks; to explore to what extent online assessment is fair, and finally to determine satisfaction of students of online learning experiences during COVID-19 era. The sample of the study was drawn from all social sciences departments. The questionnaire’s link was disseminated to 550 students and 293 respondents filled out the google form. Learners’ readiness was divided into three subfactors, namely, physical & environmental factors, learners’ personal skills and learners’ familiarity with necessary apps and websites. The inferences drawn from the study showed that although majority of students were equipped with devices yet they were not possessing good skills required for virtual learning. The online conditions and environment were not contributing positively in favour of learners’ readiness and also learners were not well aware of apps & websites required for online learning. Moreover, students remained passive during online classes and were found less interested in completion of the assigned tasks. The online assessment had been embedded with manifold flaws that further multiplied unfairness in education. Although, the study informs overall satisfaction of learners which found to be low for addressing the issues, it is recommended that educational institutions may continue to offer hybrid mode of learning even in post-pandemic era for continuously equipping both students and teachers with requisite skills, relevant apps and software necessary for making learning teaching process smooth in future. In addition, it is recommended that higher educational institutions and relevant authorities should design software to improve involvement of the students while keeping the assessments as fair as possible during online learning.

AbstractThis article presents a methodology whereby adjoint solutions for partitioned multiphysics problems can be computed efficiently, in a way that is completely independent of the underlying physical sub-problems, the associated numerical solution methods, and the number and type of couplings between them. By applying the reverse mode of algorithmic differentiation to each discipline, and by using a specialized recording strategy, diagonal and cross terms can be evaluated individually, thereby allowing different solution methods for the generic coupled problem (for example block-Jacobi or block-Gauss-Seidel). Based on an implementation in the open-source multiphysics simulation and design software SU2, we demonstrate how the same algorithm can be applied for shape sensitivity analysis on a heat exchanger (conjugate heat transfer), a deforming wing (fluid–structure interaction), and a cooled turbine blade where both effects are simultaneously taken into account.

Abstract Aiming at the trestle of material ropeway of transmission line, the structural design of components was carried out with the combination of 3D design software. Parametric modeling method was adopted to carry out the modeling of components with different structural parameters. The stress status of components of trestle was analyzed, the design load of components was proposed, and the strength of the designed components was checked through finite element simulation analysis. The results show that the components can meet the requirements of structural strength. The proposed method can realize parametric modeling of solid model and effectively improve the design efficiency of material ropeway.

Joint faulting is a pavement distress that affects the comfort level of jointed plain concrete pavements. The appearance of joint faulting usually occurs in areas of high traffic of trucks at high speed. Variables such as level of rainfall and the erodibility of the subbase increases the magnitude of this phenomenon. To predict joint faulting in Thin Concrete Pavements, the design software OptiPave2, launched in 2012, used the same model developed for the Mechanistic Empirical Pavement Design Guide (MEPDG), which uses an energy differential model. After 6 years of the release of the software and after 10 years since the construction of some thin concrete pavement projects, there are pavements with clear signs of joint faulting and others without. For this reason, the OptiPave2 model was reviewed and compared with field data, concluding that the faulting model needed to be adjusted This new model was calibrated with the data from existing concrete pavement projects.

Abstract Objectives Digital technologies have widened their horizons into the world of dental medicine and now further expanding to cover all branches. This new modern technology replaces traditional laboratory techniques allowing effective patient care. Patients who suffer from bruxism—the act of involuntary habitual grinding of teeth—have widely been benefited by splint treatments. The aim of this article is to display the variety of occlusal splints that can be created by the 3Shape Digital Design Software and their application in specific clinical situations. Materials and Methods Six variations in the splints were created digitally—three with uncombined designs and the remaining three with a combination of two of the main options available. During this study, 36 splints were made for patients aged 24 to 55 inclusively. Results The largest number of splints according to the clinical picture were made of “raise to antagonist cusp tips” (14 pieces) and the remaining were of combined type “raise to antagonist cusp tips + raise to antagonist plane” (12 pieces). There thickness was within the range of 1.5 and 5 mm. Conclusion 3Shape Digital Design Software—Splint Studio is a suitable system for designing and creating occlusal splints with respect to certain clinical situations. It is possible to combine the three main types in a separate section of the dental arch according to the case.

This paper illustrates the design and building of a planar transformer prototype with a 1:1 transformation ratio for high-frequency applications in power electronics. By using reference literature and considering the ferrite core dimensions, the windings were conceived and exported to Gerber format using PCB design software. The transformer prototype was then assembled and tested under laboratory conditions for frequencies from 800 Hz to 5 MHz, which showed a sinusoidal wave at the transformer output from 1.3 kHz onwards and a better performance starting at 10 kHz, where the loses were significantly reduced and the transformation ratio was closer to the originally designed. As a final step, a finite element method (FEM) análisis was carried out to understand the electromagnetic flux behavior using a 3D Multiphysics simulation software. The 3d building process and details are explained step by step and the resulting magnetic flux density is graphically shown for the core and the windings.
