The COVID-19 pandemic has radically reshaped the academic life of graduate students and revealed the inequities in the traditional education system in the Philippines. This study is a qualitative navigation of the lived accounts of development communication (devcom) graduate students at the University of the Philippines Los Baños. It foregrounds devcom as a field of theory and practice in honor of its pioneer Professor Emeritus Nora C. Quebral and her contribution to the ferment of the field. The credence of phenomenology informed the direction of this research in addressing a paucity of literature that examines the experiences of graduate students on remote learning within the current milieu. The transition of academia into a new phase of development surfaced stories of personal and academic struggles. As social beings, they engage virtual and real spaces in coping that redirect them to a sense of purpose and semblance of normalcy at a time of uncertainties. To address their recurring and emerging conditions is the cultivation of institutional support and online forms of communication support as two pivotal forms of their reflective recommendations. Drawing from the participants’ reflections, I developed a schema that investigates the intersectionality of their struggles, coping, and recommendations towards a conducive remote learning milieu.

This research used secondary secondary analysis of clinical data to find the role of technology within mu clinical practice. Data included clinical notes, and my own reflective journal from February to September in 2018. I used thematic analysis to uncover themes from my data. Five themes were found that indicate that technology can positively contribute to music therapy sessions. In particular, the research has identified that technologies can be used to support cognitive development, communication efforts, emotional reactions, motor skills, and sensory stimulation for children. The research will contribute to current debates around the role of technology in music therapy sessions to further support children with physical disabilities.

Purpose. The article is devoted to the study of parental empathy and the identification of the relationship between this phenomenon and the peculiarities of raising children at the age period from 3 to 6 years. The article considers the essence and mechanisms of empathy phenomenon. It was found that the phenomenon of empathy has been studied by many scientists from different angles, creating their own concepts of understanding this phenomenon and its mechanisms, while emphasizing its importance. The phenomenon of empathy was considered as an emotional sensitivity to another, as a perception of the inner world of another person, as a penetration into the individual identity of the object of communication without losing understanding of oneself. The main mechanisms of empathy included decentralization, interpretation, emotional contagion, and identification. The role of parental empathy in relationships and interactions with the child that affect the child's development was demonstrated.Methods. An empirical study was organized and conducted based on a sample of 65 mothers and fathers aged 25 to 44 living in Ukraine who have their first or only child aged 3 to 6. Three psychodiagnostic methods were used to implement the study, namely: questionnaire of emotional empathy by A. Megrabyan and N. Epstein (1975), adapted by Yu.M. Orlov and Yu.N. Emelyanov; multifactor questionnaire by M. Davis (1980), adapted by T. Karyagina, N. Budagovskaya and S. Dubrovskaya (2013); questionnaire of emotional relations in the family by O. Zakharova (1996). Psychometric verification of the reliability and representativeness of the selected methods for empirical research was conducted.Results. The level of parents’ empathy and peculiarities of interaction with the child were determined, correlation analysis with interpretation of the obtained results was carried out. It has been proven that the higher the level of emotional empathy in parents, the higher the level of emotional intimacy with the child.Conclusions. It was found that parental emapthy is a necessary condition for positive emotional and educational interaction with the child, which has a significant impact on the child's development, communication and building relationships with other people in the future.Key words: empathy, parents, family upbringing, children, correlation, relationships.

All development initiatives comprise a communications component, whether a public notice in the local newspaper, community meetings or a mass media public awareness campaign. But communication within development involves more than simply informing recipient populations of initiatives, events and targets. Communication is central to eliciting buy-in and creating a sense of community ownership; it is integral to maintaining public trust through the transparency and accountability it encourages; and, most importantly, it allows target populations to have their say in development initiatives that impact on their lives. Different countries, cultures and socio-political conditions will suit different communication types. Determining factors include, literacy rates, geographic distance, telecommunications infrastructure, religion, culture and politics. This thesis examines the communication strategies deployed by NGOs working in the Kingdom of Tonga. These strategies are analysed in the context of wider political, cultural and mass media conditions, with particular reference to the state of Tonga’s news media. In-country research for this thesis was conducted at the culmination of a tumultuous period for the Pacific’s only Constitutional Monarchy. Tonga has experienced rapid socio-political changes in recent decades with an increasingly dependent economy, growing challenges to traditional institutions and the crowning of a new King in 2006. In November 2010, the nation elected the first Parliament in 135 years to give commoners, rather than nobles, the majority in the Legislative Assembly. The General Election was conducted under an amended constitution, and was the first since riots destroyed much of the capital of Nuku’alofa four years earlier. With these events as a backdrop, this research asks what forms of communication work best in Tonga? Are these as effective on the relatively developed main island of Tongatapu as remote, outer islands? And what role does mainstream media play in keeping the population informed of development issues?
