Regular physical exercise is essential for overall health; however, it is also crucial to mitigate the probability of injuries due to incorrect exercise executions. Existing health or fitness applications often neglect accurate full-body motion recognition and focus on a single body part. Furthermore, they often detect only specific errors or provide feedback first after the execution. This lack raises the necessity for the automated detection of full-body execution errors in real-time to assist users in correcting motor skills. To address this challenge, we propose a method for movement assessment using a full-body haptic motion capture suit. We train probabilistic movement models using the data of 10 inertial sensors to detect exercise execution errors. Additionally, we provide haptic feedback, employing transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation immediately, as soon as an error occurs, to correct the movements. The results based on a dataset collected from 15 subjects show that our approach can detect severe movement execution errors directly during the workout and provide haptic feedback at respective body locations. These results suggest that a haptic full-body motion capture suit, such as the Teslasuit, is promising for movement assessment and can give appropriate haptic feedback to the users so that they can improve their movements.

This narrative review of the literature assessed whether regular physical exercise and sleep patterns, fasting and autophagy, altogether can be an adequate strategy for achieving healthy longevity and well-being within different stage of life. There are a large number of studies dealing with well-being and healthy longevity; however, few of them have given us a specific formula for how to live long and healthy. Despite all the advances that have been made to create adequate physical exercise programs, sleep patterns or nutritional protocols, the relation between different types of fasting, nutritional supplementation as well as regular physical exercise and sleep patterns have not yet been satisfactorily resolved to cause the best effects of autophagy and, therefore, well-being and healthy longevity. In this way, future studies should clarify more efficiently the relationship between these variables to understand the association between regular physical exercise, sleep patterns, fasting and autophagy for healthy longevity and well-being.

Abstract Aims Despite the proven benefits of regular physical exercise, and although sportsmen are the paradigm of healthy individuals, the athletes population is not risk-free and can suffer severe clinical conditions including coronary artery disease (CAD) and sudden cardiac death (SCD). Identification of athletes with higher cardiovascular risk is a crucial goal of pre-participation screening. Methods and results In this report, we discuss the case of a 79-year-old male. He was a cyclist, who performed a visit to the sports doctor to have issued a certificate for competitive fitness. He was dyslipidaemic, hypertensive, diabetic, and he reported no symptoms. The patient’s ECG revealed an advanced second-degree atrioventricular block. For this reason, he was admitted to the emergency department and he underwent urgent coronary angiography and a temporary Pacemaker. Indeed, a diagnosis of bivasal coronary artery disease was made, and for the first time the patient was subjected to angioplasty of the anterior descending branch and circumflex branch. Subsequently, for the persistence of bradyarrhythmia, he was subjected to a definitive Pacemaker implant. Conclusions The benefits of exercise in the overall population are multiple and indisputable, but in athletes with cardiovascular disease exercise can also be associated with adverse clinical events, including SCD. In veterans, a growing group of athletes, CAD is the most common cause of SCD. Detection of subclinical CAD should be the main objective of veteran athlete screening, since the performance of classical cardiovascular risk stratification based on clinical factors appears to be suboptimal.

One of the efforts made to get a healthy condition is to do regular physical exercise. Regular and measurable exercise will result in optimal physical fitness. Physical exercise is done regularly, according to the needs of each individual and by applying the basic principles of exercise, various benefits will be obtained for the body. The purpose of this activity is to educate and increase target knowledge in determining the type of physical exercise and preparing the correct dose of physical exercise to achieve optimal physical fitness. The participants were the Rectorate Staff of the University of Mataram, totaling 40 people, consisting of 14 men and 26 women. The activity lasted for approximately 120 minutes, located in the Ruang Sidang Utama of the Rectorate of the University of Mataram. The implementation of the activity consists of 5 stages, namely: (1) pretest, (2) delivery of counseling material, (3) simulation of determining the type and dose of physical exercise, (4) discussion, and (5) posttest. From the results of this activity, an increase in the knowledge of participants in the activity was obtained by 38.6%, based on the posttest to pretest scores. Participants have an idea in determining the type of physical exercise and determining the appropriate dose of physical exercise for each of them.

Background. Obesity is a significant health problem, with increasing involvement of young population worldwide. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of two different types of physical exercise (resistance vs combined aerobic-resistance) on cardiovascular and anthropometric profile of a sample of sedentary adolescents with overweight and obesity. Methods. After undergoing clinical, cardiovascular and anthropometric-metabolic evaluation (T0), subjects with overweight and obesity were randomized to a 6-months resistance or combined aerobic-resistance training program. Clinical, cardiovascular and anthropometric-metabolic evaluations were repeated after 6 months of training (T1) and after 3 months of detraining (T2). Results. Thirty adolescents with overweight/obesity were enrolled; 20 subjects completed training program. A significant improvement in body composition was detected after 6 months, with a reduction of BMI (32.1 [30.5-34.4] vs 31.1 [29.6-33.4] kg/m2, p=0.02) and adipose tissue (45.5 [41.1-49.7] vs 41.6 [37.0-49.2] Kg, p<0.01). A reduction in Diastolic blood pressure (75.5 ± 8.9 vs 68.2 ± 6.4 mmHg, p=0.02) and Pulse Wave Velocity (5.7 [5.1-5.9] vs 5.2 [4.7-5.7] m/s, p=0.04) was also observed. Persistence of the effect on the most important parameters was observed also after detraining period. Conclusions. Regular physical exercise induces positive metabolic and cardiovascular effects, with persistence also after brief discontinuation. Novelty bullets. Physical exercise induces positive effect on cardiovascular risk profile. Positive effects persist also after brief discontinuation. Physical exercise reduces early signs of autonomic disfunction.

Despite advances in treatments and therapies, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain one of the leading causes of death worldwide. The discovery that most of the human genome, although transcribed, does not encode proteins was crucial for focusing on the potential of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) as essential regulators of cell function at the epigenetic, transcriptional, and post-transcriptional levels. This class of non-coding RNAs is related to the pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system. The different expression profiles of lncRNAs, in different contexts of CVDs, change a great potential in their use as a biomarker and targets of therapeutic intervention. Furthermore, regular physical exercise plays a protective role against CVDs; on the other hand, little is known about its underlying molecular mechanisms. In this review, we look at the accumulated knowledge on lncRNAs and their functions in the cardiovascular system, focusing on the cardiovascular pathology of arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, acute myocardial infarction, and heart failure. We discuss the potential of these molecules as biomarkers for clinical use, their limitations, and how the manipulation of the expression profile of these transcripts through physical exercise can begin to be suggested as a strategy for the treatment of CVDs.

Objective. The gut microbiota, as the critical mediator of the gut-brain axis, can produce and transport neuroactive substances, thus playing a significant role in the pathogenesis of depression. Although regular physical exercise is an important nondrug antidepressant, its specific effector mechanism is still unclear. Methods. Rats were randomly divided into four different groups (n = 10 for each group) as follows: normal group (G1), depression group (G2), fluoxetine treatment group (G3), and regular exercise treatment group (G4). All rats underwent forced swimming tests, tail suspension tests, open field tests, and elevated plus-maze tests to detect behavioristics. Then, corticosterone levels were detected by ELISA. Additionally, taxonomic analysis of the gut microbiota in all rats was performed after they were exercised regularly for 60 days. Results. Compared with the G1 group, the rats in the G2 group showed significant depression-like behaviors, with increased serum corticosterone levels. The proportions of Bacteroides, Actinomycetes, Proteobacteria, Saccharomyces, and Cyanobacteria in rats of the G2 group were lower than those in the G1 group, while the proportions of Firmicutes, Tenicotte, Deferrobacteria, and Fusobacteria were increased. Furthermore, after regular exercise treatment, the gut microbiota of rats was effectively improved, almost returning to the level of the G1 group, and depressive behavior and corticosterone levels were also restored, which was almost the same as the effect of fluoxetine treatment. Conclusion. Regular physical exercise could alleviate depressive-like behaviors by modulating the species and function of the gut microbiota.

Background — Exercise training is an important component of wellness for individuals diagnosed with cardiovascular disease (CVD). Exercise may have an effect on cardiovascular risk factors such as hypertension, lipid levels, and other associated physical, psychological, and physiological risk factors. Exercise intensity may further impact those risk factors. Aim — This narrative review of the literature aims to identify the effect of regular physical exercise on modifying risk factors for CVD and increased morbidity and mortality related to CVD. Methods — Published English-language papers from 2011 to 2020, available in Scopus, PubMed, Cochrane, Google Scholar, and Thompson were included in this review. Keywords for this search were exercise training, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, physical function, physiological, and psychological risk factors. Conclusions — Exercise training may be a cost-effective intervention that improves the physical, physiological, and psychological risk factors and the motor function of patients with cardiovascular disease.

In patients with chronic kidney disease, sedentary behavior is widely recognized as a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, cancer, and depression. Nevertheless, the real impact of physical inactivity on the health of kidney transplant (KT) recipients remains uncertain. Over the last decade, there has been a renewed interest in exploring the effects of regular physical exercise on transplant-related outcomes. There is now mounting evidence that physical activity may reduce the burden of cardiovascular risk factors, preserve allograft function, minimize immunosuppression requirement, and ameliorate the quality of life of KT recipients. Many positive feedbacks can be detected in the early stages of the interventions and with a minimal exercise load. Despite these encouraging results, the perceived role of physical activity in the management of KT candidates and recipients is often underrated. The majority of trials on exercise training are small, relatively short, and focused on surrogate outcomes. While waiting for larger studies with longer follow-up, these statistical limitations should not discourage patients and doctors from initiating exercise and progressively increasing intensity and duration. This narrative review summarizes current knowledge about the deleterious effects of physical inactivity after KT. The benefits of regular physical exercise are also outlined.
