ABSTRACTThe growth and hemolytic activity profiles of two Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains (ATCC 17802 and ATCC 33847) in shrimp, oyster, freshwater fish, pork, chicken, and egg fried rice were investigated, and a prediction system for accurate microbial risk assessment was developed. The two V. parahaemolyticus strains displayed a similar growth and hemolysin production pattern in the foods at 37°C. Growth kinetic parameters showed that V. parahaemolyticus displayed higher maximum specific growth rate and shorter lag time values in shrimp > freshwater fish > egg fried rice> oyster > chicken > pork. Notably, there was a similar number of V. parahaemolyticus in all of these samples at the stationary phase. The hemolytic activity of V. parahaemolyticus in foods increased linearly with time (R2 > 0.97). The rate constant (K) of hemolytic activity was higher in shrimp, oyster, freshwater fish, and egg fried rice than in pork and chicken. Significantly higher hemolytic activity of V. parahaemolyticus was evident in egg fried rice > shrimp > freshwater fish > chicken > oyster > pork. The above-mentioned results indicate that V. parahaemolyticus could grow well regardless of the food type and that contrary to current belief, it displayed a higher hemolytic activity in some nonseafood products (freshwater fish, egg fried rice, and chicken) than in one seafood (oyster). The prediction system consisting of the growth model and hemolysin production algorithm reported here will fill a gap in predictive microbiology and improve significantly the accuracy of microbial risk assessment of V. parahaemolyticus.

The bacterium Escherichia coli is one of the best free-living organisms studied in depth. It is a surprisingly diverse species, since some strains of E. coli live in the intestine of animals as harmless commensals, while other distinct genotypes, such as an enteropathogenic or enterohemorrhagic E. coli, for example, cause morbidity and death marked as human intestinal pathogens. The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a PCR assay for a known and suspected uropathogenic E. coli virulence factor (kpsMT) gene region to determine the distribution of the gene and its role in the development of clinical diseases of the urinary system. A total of 25 urine samples were collected from patients with urinary tract infection (UTI) at Azadi and Kirkuk hospitals in the city of Kirkuk, Iraq. Samples of both genders and different ages were collected from patients with suspected urinary tract infection according to the clinical manifestations and symptoms diagnosed by the examining physician. The samples were cultured and positive samples were subjected to the IMViC test to identify E. coli bacteria and subsequently identified using the Vitek 2 compact system. Among 25 samples, 24 (96%) showed positive results for bacterial cultural growth. Of these, 17 (68%) were identified as Escherichia coli. Of the total of 17 isolates, 14 from patients with mild urinary tract infection, and 3 from patients with Urosepsis. The kpsMT gene was present in 14 isolates (82.3%), including 11 (78.5%) isolates from patients with mild urinary tract infection, and 3 (100%) isolates from patients with Urosepsis. It was concluded that Escherichia coli is the most prevalent in urine tract infection samples. Due to the abundance of the kpsMT gene in uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC), this gene plays an important role in developing UTI if it is not treated correctly and quickly; mild cases of UTI can turn into Urosepsis.

The article is aimed at identifying the main areas of regional policy with reference to ensuring economic security. It is proved that the state regional policy is an integral part of the state policy aimed at providing the spatial organization of a region, maintaining balance, eliminating regional differentiation. The mechanism of regional policy provision is considered. The powers of regional policy actors in Ukraine are apecified. The global and local goals of regional policy are characterized, the goal hierarchy is created with respect to ensuring regional economic security. Estimates of the local goals of regional policy on achieving the strategic goal of regional policy are defined. The main global goals of regional policy are highlighted, in particular: territorial integrity, socio-economic integration and spatial development, sustainable development of the region’s diversified competitive economy, development of rural territories and territories adjacent to cities, development of human capital and life quality, effective regional development management. It is determined that the following local goals are estimated highest for achieving the strategic goal of regional policy: protection of regional interests, territorial unity, prevention of deepening imbalances in regional development, rationalization of agricultural production pattern aimed at increasing its productivity, development of a competitive industrial sector.
