General Aviation flight operations have been negatively affected by the slow decreasing weather related accident rate for the last 20 years. Upon further investigation, research suggests, that poor preflight planning and a lack of aviation weather experience and knowledge may be contributing factors to the stagnant weather related accident rate. Our team developed a Preflight Weather Decision Support Tool (PWDST) to help novice pilots access, interpret, and apply weather information. We used a user-centered design process which involved an initial task analysis, low-fidelity prototyping, low-fidelity usability testing, user interviews and expert review. This study assessed and compared the perceived usability, difficulty, and the system assistance satisfaction of the PWDST. Participants (n=9) completed a usability study and a series of surveys during, as well as, after the completion of the preflight planning scenario. A series of Mann-Whitney U Tests were conducted to compare the difference between Private Pilot and Certified Flight Instructors (CFI) perceived usability, difficulty, and system assistance satisfaction ratings. Results indicated, there were no significant differences between group ratings. Overall, both groups reported above average usability, system assistance and low difficulty rating for the PWDST. Future research and possible implications are discussed.

OBJECTIVE We employed an agile, user-centered approach to the design of a clinical decision support tool in our prior integrated clinical prediction rule study, which achieved high adoption rates. To understand if applying this user-centered process to adapt clinical decision support tools is effective in improving the use of clinical prediction rules, we examined utilization rates of a clinical decision support tool adapted from the original integrated clinical prediction rule study tool to determine if applying this user-centered process to design yields enhanced utilization rates similar to the integrated clinical prediction rule study. MATERIALS & METHODS: We conducted pre-deployment usability testing and semi-structured group interviews at 6 months post-deployment with 75 providers at 14 intervention clinics across the two sites to collect user feedback. Qualitative data analysis is bifurcated into immediate and delayed stages; we reported on immediate-stage findings from real-time field notes used to generate a set of rapid, pragmatic recommendations for iterative refinement. Monthly utilization rates were calculated and examined over 12 months. RESULTS We hypothesized a well-validated, user-centered clinical decision support tool would lead to relatively high adoption rates. Then 6 months post-deployment, integrated clinical prediction rule study tool utilization rates were substantially lower than anticipated based on the original integrated clinical prediction rule study trial (68%) at 17% (Health System A) and 5% (Health System B). User feedback at 6 months resulted in recommendations for tool refinement, which were incorporated when possible into tool design; however, utilization rates at 12 months post-deployment remained low at 14% and 4% respectively. DISCUSSION Although valuable, findings demonstrate the limitations of a user-centered approach given the complexity of clinical decision support. CONCLUSION Strategies for addressing persistent external factors impacting clinical decision support adoption should be considered in addition to the user-centered design and implementation of clinical decision support.

ABSTRACT Hazard Services is a software toolkit that integrates information management, hazard alerting, and communication functions into a single user interface. When complete, National Weather Service forecasters across the United States will use Hazard Services for operational issuance of weather and hydrologic alerts, making the system an instrumental part of the threat management process. As a new decision-support tool, incorporating an understanding of user requirements and behavior is an important part of building a system that is usable, allowing users to perform work-related tasks efficiently and effectively. This paper discusses the Hazard Services system and findings from a usability evaluation with a sample of end users. Usability evaluations are frequently used to support software and website development and can provide feedback on a system’s efficiency of use, effectiveness, and learnability. In the present study, a user-testing evaluation assessed task performance in terms of error rates, error types, response time, and subjective feedback from a questionnaire. A series of design recommendations was developed based on the evaluation’s findings. The recommendations not only further the design of Hazard Services, but they may also inform the designs of other decision-support tools used in weather and hydrologic forecasting. Incorporating usability evaluation into the iterative design of decision-support tools, such as Hazard Services, can improve system efficiency, effectiveness, and user experience.

A decision support tool has been designed to allow operations planners to incorporate organizational and cultural factors into the building of effective multinational mission forces. Development of this tool was guided by principles from Human Factors and the Congruence Model of organizations. A user-centered design process was employed. The work process of the target user was analyzed and formed the basis for the steps in the tool's work process. The tool contains several databases that allow a user to build alternate task-staffing configurations associated with a mission plan. The tool simulates the projected performance of these configurations, based on characteristics of tasks, assigned units, and command arrangements. Planners are provided with a macro-level perspective of the mission structure as the operation is staffed; the tool enables them to construct the “best fit” from the operational requirements and the tasking resources at their disposal.

Business Placement Center membantu mengelola website alumni dalam memenuhi kebutuhan alumni salah satunya memberikan informasi mengenai lowongan pekerjaan. Website Alumni Amikom sudah memberikan informasi mengenai lowongan pekerjaan. Namun website alumni masih perlu ditambahkan fitur-fitur menu penunjang dalam mempermudah pencarian informasi pekerjaan yang sesuai keinginan pengguna. Penggunaan metode User Centered Design untuk mempermudah pengguna dalam menggunakan fasilitas yang ada pada website ketika mencari informasi lowongan pekerjaan dan pengguna berperan penting dalam setiap proses UCD. Dengan pendekatan User Centered Design diharapkan dapat menghasilkan tampilan dan fungsionalitas yang maksimal pada rancangan sistem yang dibangun sehingga sesuai dengan kebutuhan pengguna. Metode penelitian yang dilakukan yaitu observasi, wawancara dan kuesioner untuk mengetahui kebutuhan pengguna. Analisis dan perancangan menggunakan pendekatan User Centered Design dan implementasi perancangan sistem. Hasil penelitiannya adalah pengguna merasa nyaman dengan tampilan antarmuka website yang sudah dibangun, informasi yang disajikan mudah dipahami dan fitur-fitur menu sudah berhasil berjalansesuai fungsi.Business Placement Center help manage the website for the needs of alumnus one of them is to provide information on a vacancy. The alumnus website’s provides information about job vacancy. The website still need the support to facilitate the searching all the features the work in accordance with what the use. The method of user centered design to make it easy for users in the use of the existing facilities at the website while searching for information a vacancy and users play an important role in any proses UCD. User Centered Design approach is expected to produce the interface and functionality maximal built in the system so that in accordance with the need of users. Research methodology was by observation, interviews and quesionnaires to find out the need of users. Analysis and design using UCD approach and implementation of the system. The results of research is users feel comfortable with a display interface of website which have been built, the information is easily understood and menu features has been successfully run a function.
