In this study, effects of reinforcement corrosion such as reinforcement cross section reduction, steel yield strength and concrete compressive strength reduction on RC member capacity decrease are studied. Next, a two-dimensional reinforced concrete moment resistant frame is modeled to evaluate the effects of moderate and severe intensity corrosion on moment-curvature behavior of elements and structure seismic response under nonlinear analysis. Structure capacity curves in push-over analysis and failure curves resulted from IDA for both the structure without and with corrosion are obtained and the effects of reinforcement’s corrosion on the reinforced concrete frame seismic performance are determined through comparing the results. The results revealed that in terms of amount, place and type of corrosion in the reinforced concrete frame, value of the reduction resisting moment of elements is different. Furthermore, the outcomes of nonlinear analyses showed that the capacity of structure is reduced and its seismic performance level is changed as a result of corrosion.

In this paper authors discuss the impact of genetically nonlinear application of external loads on the stress-stain state and on principal vibration modes of reinforced concrete frame structures on elastic foundation. The reader will find a methodology for integrated numerical and instrumental analysis. Six examples of linear and nonlinear FEA-models calculated in SCAD Office are given in comparison.

This paper evaluates the performance of a seven-story reinforced concrete frame building that was severely damaged during the 1994 Northridge, California, earthquake. The building was designed and constructed in the 1960s and contains details that are typical of that construction era in the western United States. The building sustained severe damage that included column shear failures. The building was analyzed independently by three research teams using analysis methodólogies that were similar in concept but different in details. An objective of each analysis was to correlate observed and calculated performance. The different analyses were successful to varying degrees. The results provide a test case of the effectiveness of various seismic performance assessment methodologies.
