Personality study on an artist sample across distinct artistic domainsResumenEl presente estudio es de enfoque cuantitativo transversal, descriptivo, teniendo como propósito principal: caracterizar el perfil de personalidad en una muestra de artistas de diferentes campos de desempeño creativo, los cuales residen en Colombia (23) y Argentina (3). Para lograr lo anterior, se realizó una medición de las características de personalidad de los participantes con el test MMPI versión abreviada (Minessota Multiphasic Personality Inventory). Los resultados obtenidos corroboran los resultados de estudios anteriores que establecen una relación entre la producción creativa y las perturbaciones psicopatológicas.Palabras clave: creatividad, perfil de personalidad, campo de desempeño artístico, Minnessota Multiphasic Personality Inventory.AbstractThe aim of this study is to characterize the personality profile of an artist sample, proficient in different artistic domains. The research methodology was transversal quantitative, with a descriptive approach. The personality traits of the sample, from Colombia (23) and Argentina (3), were measured by means of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory. The results exhibit a strong occurrence of psychopathological markers, with significant differences in the personality profiling from subjects in different artistic domains.Keywords: personality, creativity, domains of artistic performance, Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory.

The assumption that spasmodic torticollis represents a conversion reaction was examined by evaluating profiles of 61 patients on the hypochondriasis, depression, and hysteria scales of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory. Thirty-six per cent of the sample had normal profiles. A conversion “V” profile with scores above 70 was found in a minority (9%) of the patients. The profile of the majority of the group was characterized by the presence of mild depression. It was concluded that a personality profile suggestive of conversion reaction is not typical of patients with spasmodic torticollis.

In recent years, several studies have addressed the issue of positive self-presentation bias in assessing parents involved in postdivorce child custody litigations. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) is widely used in forensic assessments and is able to evaluate positive self-presentation through its Superlative Self-Presentation S scale. We investigated the existence of a gender effect on positive self-presentation bias in an Italian sample of parents involved in court evaluation. Participants were 391 divorced parents who completed the full 567-item Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 during child custody evaluations ordered by several Italian courts between 2006 and 2010. Our analysis considered the S scale along with the basic clinical scales. North-American studies had shown no gender differences in child custody litigations. Differently, our results showed a significantly higher tendency toward “faking-good” profiles on the MMPI-2 among Italian women as compared to men and as compared to the normative Italian female population. Cultural and social factors could account for these differences.
