AbstractThe language of Qoheleth is characterized by an awkward style and an unusual vocabulary. Past studies have assigned these peculiarities to linguistic factors, assuming that the book reflects an underrepresented dialect or register. The current study aims to expand the boundaries of this discourse by introducing extra-linguistic considerations into the discussion. Qoheleth is the only biblical book that is purely philosophical, focusing on abstract issues such as the purpose of life and the problem of free will. Such philosophical discussions require the use of an abstract terminology. The basic toolkit of any philosopher consists of conceptual phrases such as “time,” “space,” “cosmos,” “humanity,” “meaning,” etc. Yet abstract vocabulary was meager in the Hebrew at the author’s disposal. Paving a pioneering way in the realm of thought, Qoheleth’s author had to create a terminological system capable of expressing his new ideas. This article traces the ways in which the need for a personally-customized philosophical idiom shaped Qoheleth’s language. Exploring the origins of eleven key-terms in the book, this article reveals the dynamics that gave rise to Qoheleth’s personal lexicon. These include generalization and conceptualization of the extant semantic fields of certain terms in order to re-invent them as personal expressions reflecting the author’s philosophy. The author takes advantage of the “linguistic availability” of certain terms, that is, their foreignness or rareness that makes them better-suited, in his view, to bear newly created meanings. Taken together, Qoheleth’s neologisms constitute a personal idiolect, carefully designed to convey the author’s unique thought.

This chapter more fully introduces the theoretical framework for Kruse’s reading of Ditko’s work and includes more thorough definitions for the key terms as well as a historical and cultural context for those terms. The contextualization provided in this chapter offers a look into Ditko’s hometown Johnstown, Pennsylvania and its immigrant community of industrial workers, along with the liberal political voices such as Ayn Rand and Nathaniel Branden alongside occult and mystic voices such as H.P. Blavatsky, and how popular twentieth-century advocates of the mind power movement like Norman Vincent Peale, Dale Carnegie, and other members link each of these seemingly disparate ideas and methodologies. The result of this entanglement—in theory and in practice—is mystic liberalism.

Creativity is an ability to come up with a new idea. In many cases, getting out of reality can bring forth a new idea. Since asking questions stimulates the brain to release us from reality, repeating such questions forms the habit of asking many questions that increases creativity. A framework consisting of three kinds of questions is provided. The three kinds of questions are on axes of “time,” “space,” and “field” and the framework is called as three dimensional creativity. Traveling along the three axes allows escaping from a fixed idea, and thus helps us to raise new ideas.

This paper explores the relationship between textile materials and architecture, and how this relationship changes through collaboration between textile engineers and architects. Rather than evanescent matter and structurally insufficient building material, textile may be observed as a large number of fibers organized into coherent and flexible structures which are permeable by air, water or adjustable to human body and its activities. Certain textile properties have always been a matter of interest for architects and have always offered both an intriguing metaphor and an operative device for architecture throughout its history. Today, textile materials in combination with software, robotics and sensorial devices provide for the renewed inters in adaptable form of architecture and the ability of the built environment to react according to contextual changes. This study examines structural characteristics at the material level and explores further into the constructions of fiber assemblies. The aim is to represent textile as a new material which application and implementation in architecture can influence development of new ideas in creating aesthetic and cultural context.

Play is an enchanting feature of childhood that is thought to support learning and development. One enduring idea is that play helps children develop executive function, the control of thought and action in the service of goals; however, ideas about how have been constrained by conceptions of executive function as domain-general neurocognitive processes that are separable from knowledge and context. We propose a key purpose of play is to ease the acquisition of knowledge and skills that allow children to engage control in new and increasingly sophisticated ways. We articulate three new ideas about how this might work. We suggest that play may not be special in furnishing knowledge and skills that shape executive function, and that instead of encouraging specific forms of play, children should be given opportunities to acquire diverse knowledge and skills that will help them use control in ways that are valued in their cultural context.

Comparing Ambrose Bierce’s “An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” (as framed by Bierce’s illuminating philosophical attitude) with the Frenchman Robert Enrico’s film adaptation (how his adaptation decisions are manifest in the film) and Rod Serling’s use of that film for an episode of The Twilight Zone (as the show’s cultural context was and is perfect for the task) reveals afresh that mood (involving an author’s attitude toward content) is necessarily more important than genre (involving content itself) when narrative content approaches the unknowable. What perhaps surprises in this comparison is that, arguably, Bierce’s short story is the least dark of the three versions of what may be called the mood and genre of sardonic death, for it only denounces (especially in terms of free will versus determinism) the doomed man, while Enrico’s film elicits sympathy and Serling’s episode empathy.

Comparing the healing experiences reported by members of indigenous dream groups such as the Senoi of Malaysia and others to those reported by members of American grassroots dream appreciation groups, and considering the views of previous researchers who have studied these groups, it is seen that there are many aspects of dream sharing in the community that have potential healing capacities. There are critics who claim that the lack of a professional group leader will put group members at risk. But problems can be avoided with proper communication, education, and appropriate dream group leadership. The experience of healing by dream sharing in community is qualitatively unique depending on the cultural context and worldview. There are many forms of dream sharing and healing that have been reported by those who have shared dreams in various world communities. In Western societies lack of interest, fear, and safety concerns have influenced the paucity of dream sharing. Many forms of dreamwork in groups have included both healing and education as potential goals. There is room for new ideas to be implemented and built upon that could creatively help nourish those parts of the world that are suffering from social and cultural dream-impoverishment.

The climate change discourse has been evolving globally, and it has generated new ideas, debates and interests within the community of experts in local context too. People’s perceptions are critical components of the socio-cultural context within which people and societal system operate. People’s perception can compel or constrain social, economic cultural and political action to address particular risks and are liable of great influence. Present study is contemplated to construct a measuring tool to elucidate people’s perception about variability, causes, effect and impacts of climate change on production and productivity of major staple cereals of Nepal (Rice, maize wheat and potato) and standardized the same. Study was conducted on 15 different agro-ecological region of Nepal (n=900). As a result, screening and sorting from 105 statements collected and through content validation process final perception measuring instrument comprised of 70 statements was designed using equal appearing Likert scale. General criteria for perception scale construction related to item development, response set and statistical procedures are discussed. This scale was standardized for administration.

Abstract:Destiny and free will is one of issues in Islamic theology which is still discussed by Moslem theologian up to now. This discussion has yielded some streams with its argumentation respectively. Included who intense to discuss this issue is muḥammad Fethullah Gülen. At a glance, he offers to explain the issue in his own way without following one of the streams. He introduces some key terms, like Imām Mubīn, Kitāb Mubīn, Lauḥ Maḥfūẓ, Formal or Theoretical Destiny, actual destiny. Terms are Gülen’s exclusive. The article will elaborate the explaination of Gülen relating to the destiny and free will. The purpose is to map what is he follows the streams or he has interpretation in himself. For this reason, I will spread out briefly views of theologian before, i.e. these streams of Mu’tazili, al-Asy’arite, Matūridite Samarkand dan Matūridite Bukhārā. By this way it will be seen clearly where is the position of Gülen and what is contribution of his thinking. Keywords: Imām Mubīn, Kitāb Mubīn, Lauḥ Maḥfūẓ, takdir formal, takdir aktual.
