In a recent discussion of the Soracte Ode (Horace C. I, 9) Charles W. Lockyer insists on certain characteristics of the poem which he describes as follows: ‘Keeping in mind, then, the importance of the metaphor, I should like to approach the scene with a certain amount of dramatic emphasis. For Horace has really written a miniature scene, even though he casts it in the form of a monologue–a fact which is itself significant, as will be seen. … Rather we must pay close attention to the fact that the poem presents two real persons and not mere abstract sentiments decked out in elaborate imagery. … The dramatic quality of the poem should not be overlooked as it has in the past.’ (305). ‘Nothing better points up the difference between youth and age than the two people in this little play.’ (308).There is a growing awareness that this poem does not present its true self if seen as a symbolic vehicle of philosophical maxims. In one way or another, we find the insistence that we are confronted by real people. Kenneth Quinn, without further discussion, had suggested in Latin Explorations (1963), 108-09, that vides ut alta is properly seen as a dramatic monologue. Lockyer, 305 n. 11, claims that the chief contribution of J. W. Rettig, ‘Dissolve Frigus: Horace Carm. I, 9’, CB 42 (1965) 19-23, was perceiving that two real persons are presented. David West, Reading Horace, taking up Quinn's suggestion placed an uneven stress on the setting (6, 10). Viktor Pöschl pays constant close attention to the speaker. Lockyer uses the terms dramatic and monologue, but it is the former that he really finds in the poem, leading him to think of the poem as a play.

The actual dynamics of fluid flows is highly dependent on the surrounding environment, whose influence is mathematically described through the prescription of suitable boundary conditions. Boundary conditions play a crucial role, as they select solutions which are compatible with external constraints. Accounting for these constraints may be comparatively simple for idealized geometries but for general ones it represents a delicate (and sometimes nerve-probing!) task. In fact, the treatment of the boundary conditions often makes the difference in the quality of fluid dynamic simulations. This chapter illustrates the most common ways to impose boundary conditions to LB flows. The subject is very technical and has grown considerably for the past decade, which means that this chapter can only serve as a guiding introduction to the vast and still growing original literature.

The development of biomass has been an important issue for the past several decades and would remain to be attractive in the future due to its clean, renewable, and carbon–neutral properties. The use of Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) has been the condition of fibre and conditions of EFB is still fresh. The fiber used has been cut to size between ± 0.5 mm to 5 mm. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of difference press angle to the quality of briquette. Effect of the angle of the mold on the duration of combustion shows the difference in the time value that is not significant between the angles 65°, 55° and 45°. The rotation of the screw shaft slows down at an angle of 45° with a round of 84.5 rpm, while the rotation of the shaft has increased in rotation at 65° angle with rotation of 90.6 rpm. Differences in the cone angle affect the value of the burning time of the specimen and the rotation of the screw shaft so that it affects the engine performance.

Abstract. Pottery, which is made of fired clay, is the most frequently found cultural remains during archaeological researches. Technological Laboratory Analysis on pottery from sites along the Bengawan Solo (Solo River) in Bojonegoro aims at obtaining accurate results about the nature of the physical and chemical properties. Through the technological laboratory analysis can be described the quality of pottery made by craftsmen in the past. Based on the results of the analysis, pottery from the sites along the Bengawan Solo, Bojonegoro Regency, have moderate up to good qualities. The pottery belongs to a category of daily equipment that serves to store water, cook food and to serve food and drink. The rate of heat during firing was up to 600°-800° Celsius, and the color of pottery is predominantly dark colors (black colors) with only a few light colors (bright colors). The difference in the percentage of each chemical element in the pottery is due to the durability of the minerals to weathering.

Abstrak: This research is to answer fundamental issues in conflict management institutions of Islamic education in Pondok Pesantren Nahd}atul Wat}an namely: first,. source of authority and authority in managing the praxis of Islamic educational institutions in boarding Nahdlatul Wathan East Lombok NTB causes of conflict and management of educational institutions that are in conflict Nahd}atul Wat}an. To answer the key question is, non-Marxist-structuralist theory as a tool of analysis used in answering the above problems. Theory, among others, presented by Ralf Dahrendorf, who stated that the society united by a lack of freedom imposed. Certain position in society to delegate power and authority to another position, the difference in the distribution of authority becomes the determining factor of social conflict sistemati. Various positions in the community have the quality of different authorities. Authority does not lie inside the individual but in the position of this research uses a qualitative approach, data obtained from in-depth interviews (indepthinterview), observation and documentation, then interpreted, or translated to language researchers. These data to generate and describe the various conditions and situations none of the research object, and connecting these variables, and further description will be generated about the object of research, then the conclusions will be obtained. Our study argues that the organisiation has somewhat succeeded in moving toward the latter direction so much so that in the past 12 years or so it has built 820 schools according to Pancor group or 900 schools according to Anjani group across the provinse of Nusa Tenggara Barat.

In this paper on the subject of the True and False Self, Winnicott locates the area of this conceptualization as arising out of recognition of the difference of Ego versus Id in both infant development and analytic work with patients. Winnicott sees the False Self arising in the first object-relationships, where its positive function is to hide the True Self. Only the True Self can be spontaneous, creative and feel real. Where there is a pronounced split between the True and False Self, there is a poor capacity for symbol use and a poor quality of life. In analysis, the patient’s False Self can collaborate indefinitely with the analyst in the analysis of defences, but the real issues remain untouched. Suicide, which may occur in this context, is the destruction of the total self in avoidance, in fantasy, of the feared annihilation of the True Self.

During the past investigations of immunoferritin localization of intracellular antigens in ultrathin frozen sections, we found that the degree of negative staining required to delineate u1trastructural details was often too dense for the recognition of ferritin particles. The quality of positive staining of ultrathin frozen sections, on the other hand, has generally been far inferior to that attainable in conventional plastic embedded sections, particularly in the definition of membranes. As we discussed before, a main cause of this difficulty seemed to be the vulnerability of frozen sections to the damaging effects of air-water surface tension at the time of drying of the sections.Indeed, we found that the quality of positive staining is greatly improved when positively stained frozen sections are protected against the effects of surface tension by embedding them in thin layers of mechanically stable materials at the time of drying (unpublished).

Abstract The author of the two-part article about evaluating reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) responds to criticisms that a percentage impairment score may not adequately reflect the disability of an individual with RSD. The author highlights the importance of recognizing the difference between impairment and disability in the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA Guides): impairment is the loss, loss of use, or derangement of any body part, system, or function; disability is a decrease in or the loss or absence of the capacity to meet personal, social, or occupational demands or to meet statutory or regulatory requirements because of an impairment. The disparity between impairment and disability can be encountered in diverse clinical scenarios. For example, a person's ability to resume occupational activities following a major cardiac event depends on medical, social, and psychological factors, but nonmedical factors appear to present the greatest impediment and many persons do not resume work despite significant improvements in functional capacity. A key requirement according to the AMA Guides is objective documentation, and the author agrees that when physicians consider the disability evaluation of people, more issues than those relating to the percentage loss of function should be considered. More study of the relationships among impairment, disability, and quality of life in patients with RSD are required.

The construction and selection of a suitable bijective function, that is, substitution, is now becoming an important applied task, particularly for building block encryption systems. Many articles have suggested using different approaches to determining the quality of substitution, but most of them are highly computationally complex. The solution of this problem will significantly expand the range of methods for constructing and analyzing scheme in information protection systems. The purpose of research is to find easily measurable characteristics of substitutions, allowing to evaluate their quality, and also measures of the proximity of a particular substitutions to a random one, or its distance from it. For this purpose, several characteristics were proposed in this work: difference and polynomial, and their mathematical expectation was found, as well as variance for the difference characteristic. This allows us to make a conclusion about its quality by comparing the result of calculating the characteristic for a particular substitution with the calculated mathematical expectation. From a computational point of view, the thesises of the article are of exceptional interest due to the simplicity of the algorithm for quantifying the quality of bijective function substitutions. By its nature, the operation of calculating the difference characteristic carries out a simple summation of integer terms in a fixed and small range. Such an operation, both in the modern and in the prospective element base, is embedded in the logic of a wide range of functional elements, especially when implementing computational actions in the optical range, or on other carriers related to the field of nanotechnology.

Heart failure (HF) affects more than 5 million people and has an increasing incidence and cost burden. Patients note symptoms of dyspnea and fatigue that result in a decreased quality of life, which has not drastically improved over the past decades despite advances in therapies. The assessment of exercise capacity can provide information regarding patient diagnosis and prognosis, while doubling as a potential future therapy. clinically, there is acceptance that exercise is safe in hf and can have a positive impact on morbidity and quality of life, although evidence for improvement in mortality is still lacking. specific prescriptions for exercise training have not been developed because many variables and confounding factors have prevented research trials from demonstrating an ideal regimen. Physicians are becoming more aware of the indices and goals for hf patients in exercise testing and therapy to provide comprehensive cardiac care. it is further postulated that a combination of exercise training and pharmacologic therapy may eventually provide the most benefits to those suffering from hf.

Neurosurgery is among the newest of surgical disciplines, appearing in its modern incarnation at the dawn of twentieth century with the work of Harvey Cushing and contemporaries. Neurosurgical ethics involves challenges of manipulating anatomical locus of human identity and concerns of surgeons and patients who find themselves bound together in that venture. In recent years, neurosurgery ethics has taken on greater relevance as changes in society and technology have brought novel questions into sharp focus. Change of expanded armamentarium of techniques for interfacing with the human brain and spine— demand that we use philosophical reasoning to assess merits of technical innovations.Bioethics can be defined as systematic study of moral challenges in medicine, including moral vision, decisions, conduct, and policies related to medicine. Every surgeon should still take the Hippocratic Oath seriously and consider it a basic guide to follow good medical ethics in medical practice. It is simple and embodies three of the four modern bioethics principles – Respecting autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice.Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating condition often affecting young and healthy individuals around the world. Currently, scientists are pressured on many fronts to develop an all-encompassing “cure” for paralysis. While scientific understanding of central nervous system (CNS) regeneration has advanced greatly in the past years, there are still many unknowns with regard to inducing successful regeneration. A more realistic approach is required if we are interested in improving the quality of life of a large proportion of the paralyzed population in a more expedient time frame.
