In 2017–18, the Chinese artist Ai Weiwei created a special installation addressing the refugee crisis in Prague. ‘Law of the Journey’ consisted of an enormous black inflatable raft, crowded with inflatable rubber people wearing lifejackets. Their human forms were clear, but they lacked faces. The raft hung from the ceiling at an angle, casting a dark shadow over a list of quotations from thinkers and writers, beginning and ending with two locals: Franz Kafka and Václav Havel. A few isolated rubber tubes floated on the concrete floor next to the raft, with rubber humans reaching out to be saved. The exhibit conveyed both the desperation of the migrants and the inadequacy of the response.

Maurice Blanchot descobriu na literatura, por meio da experiência insólita de autores como Franz Kafka, como o processo de criação literária pode colocar em crise a soberania daquele que escreve, destitui-lo de si e do mundo. Essa experiência-limite é atravessada pela loucura, não como fato social, mas como experiência trágica, em que o movimento da escritura se torna vizinho da morte, do vazio e do colapso do autor. O conto “A ponte”, ou a imagem que ele porta, remete a outros textos de Kafka e permite apontar para uma mesma situação: a experiência -limite vivida por ele. Este conto é aqui interpretado como uma grande metáfora com, pelo menos, duplo sentido: como metaficção e como transfiguração da experiência-limite de Kafka.

Two great novelists, Franz Kafka and Robert Louis Stevenson at first blush seem to have absolutely nothing in common. But a detailed analysis of two distinguished works of thewriters, reveals surprising similarities in some aspects of their storylines. In particular, comparison of Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with The Metamorphosis of Kafka shows that both works depict the issues of the struggle between Good and Evil through elements of metamorphoses that have common roots and motives. Focusing on the ideas that are implied rather than explicitly stated unveils deep correlation between these two seemingly unrelated novels

The article comprises the overview of the essential legal, administrative and financial means that the EU has at its disposal in case of rapid influx of immigrants, as well as a selection of major obstacles to the use of these tools, based on observation of the activities of the EU and its member states taken up to deal with the aforementioned situation which took place in 2015. Using the abovementioned observation and an analysis of relevant documents, it is argued that the refugee crisis of 2015 has revealed the necessity of a profound institutionalisation of the European immigration policy as the most effective way to overcome difficulties in response to such situations. The analysis leads also to the conclusion that the EU is caught in a dilemma of either suspending the Dublin system in crisis situations or creating a new system of intensive support for border member states.
