In this letter, the surface of carbon nanoutubes was successfully decorated by Fe3O4 via a simple and effective coprecipitation and hydrothermal treatment method. Then the resultant composite were characterized. The results showed that Fe3O4 nanoparticles in the surface of carbon nanotubes were uniform and universal; The composite was ferromagnetic and also had better absorbing properties in the 0-5GHz range. CNTs/Fe3O4 composite had significant potential for electromagnetic wave absorption application in tumor hyperthermia.

Nanocompositesα-Fe/Fe3B/Y2O3 and ε-Fe3N/Y2O3 were prepared by a melt-spun technique, and the subsequent hydrogenation, oxidation and nitrogenation treatments, respectively. The effective electromagnetic wave absorption (RL<-20 dB) was obtained in a frequency range of 2.7-6.5 GHz on resin composites of 80 wt% α-Fe/Fe3B/Y2O3 powders, with thickness of 6-3 mm; the ε-Fe3N/Y2O3 resin composites exhibited good microwave absorption properties in the 0.6-4.4 GHz range.

The composite microspheres with Ni cores and amorphous TiO2 shells (Ni@TiO2) were synthesized by a one-pot solvothermal method at 180°C for 15 h, which used nickel chloride hexahydrate as Ni source andtetrabutyl orthotitanate as Ti source. The Ni/TiO2 core/shell composites were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). A possible formation mechanism of core-shell Ni/TiO2 was proposed. Furthermore, the microwave absorption properties of these microspheres were investigated in terms of complex permittivity and permeability. The minimum reflection loss is-29.5 dB at 14.4 GHz for a layer of 4.0 mm thickness. Such phenomenon is attributed to the synergy effect between magnetic loss of Ni core and dielectric loss of amorphous TiO2 shell. The enhanced microwave absorption properties are also believed to be due to the unique coreshell structure. All results indicate that these Ni@TiO2 microspheres may be attractive candidate materials for electromagnetic wave absorption applications.

Conductive polyaniline/CeO2 nanocomposite powders (PANI/CeO[Formula: see text] were prepared by an in situ polymerization method. The effects of CeO2 content on the microwave absorption properties of composites were investigated. The phase composition, morphological characteristics, electromagnetic parameters and microwave absorption properties of the composites were characterized through X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and vector network analysis. Results show that CeO2 nanorods are coated with PANI to form a well-defined hierarchical structure. CeO2 is well-incorporated into the PANI matrix. CeO2/PANI exhibits excellent microwave absorption properties at 2–18[Formula: see text]GHz. As the CeO2 content increases to 30[Formula: see text]wt.%, an optimal reflection loss (RL) of [Formula: see text]40[Formula: see text]dB (99.99% of electromagnetic wave absorption) is observed at 8.8[Formula: see text]GHz with a thickness of 3.0[Formula: see text]mm. The frequency bandwidth corresponding to 90% of electromagnetic wave absorption crosses the X-band. Therefore, PANI/CeO2 can be used as an advantageous candidate for a new type of microwave absorptive material.
