The resilience assessment method of hybrid AC-DC distribution grid is the key and basis of measuring the tolerance of the distribution network in face of extreme events and testing the effect of the resilience improvement strategy of the distribution network. This paper fully considers the characteristics of different extreme natural disasters and proposes a targeted resilience assessment method. For natural disasters, the fault rate model of the line under the influence of the disaster is constructed, and the fault set is generated based on Monte Carlo sampling. According to the operating characteristics, a set of evaluation indicators focusing on the core characteristics of resilience, including capability of strain, defense and recoverability, is constructed. The objective weight of each indicator and the comprehensive assessment results are obtained based relatively on the entropy weight method and the approximate ideal solution sorting method.

The water sector is, currently and for the foreseeable future, challenged by rising levels of uncertainty in demand and availability of water, in a context of aging infrastructure and limited investment. In order to support strategic planning, water companies need a way to assess how their system behaves when faced with a range of changing conditions (climatic trends, asset deterioration, behavioral patterns, etc.) as well as accidents/incidents and/or extreme events (wildcards). In this study, a resilience assessment methodology was demonstrated, with ‘stress tests’ alternative water system configurations (including systems designed with decentralized or distributed philosophies) under a range of scenarios and extreme events. A ‘resilience profile graph’ was developed to quantify the performance of each configuration. The methodology was applied to the real-world urban water system of Oasen, which supplies the eastern part of the Province of South Holland, where the current system configuration and two potential future configurations were tested (one decentralized and one distributed). We show how the concept of resilience, operationalized through this methodology, can assist long term decision making and support strategic infrastructure planning.

Distribution network supervisory terminal unit is widely used in the smart distribution grid construction. To solve the problem that the means of communication is short, a multi-mode communication distribution network supervisory terminal is proposed which can be contactless operated and can collect and transfer local data remotely.

In order to study the influence of distributed power access on the security state of distribution network, a comprehensive evaluation method for the security state of distribution network including distributed power access was proposed.Based on the output model and load model of photovoltaic power supply, the security situation assessment index system of distributed power supply access distribution network is established. Then combined with fuzzy analytic hierarchy process and entropy weight method, the composite weight of each index is obtained, and the combined weight is optimized based on chi-square distance. Finally, the evaluation method based on ER algorithm (Evidential Reasoning) is proposed. Simulation results verify the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method.

Safety assessment of a casting workshop will provide a clearer understanding of the important safety level required for a foundry. The main purpose of this study was to construct a composite safety assessment method to protect employee health using the cloud model and cause and effect–Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). In this study, the weights of evaluation indicators were determined using the subjective analytic hierarchy process and objective entropy weight method respectively. Then, to obtain the preference coefficient of the integrated weight more precisely, a new algorithm was proposed based on the least square method. Next, the safety level of the casting workshop was presented based on the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the cloud model, which realized the uncertainty conversion between qualitative concepts and their corresponding quantitative values, as well as taking the fuzziness and randomness into account; the validity of cloud model evaluation was validated by grey relational analysis. In addition, cause and effect was used to proactively identify factors that may lead to accidents. LOPA was used to correlate corresponding safety measures to the identified risk factors. 6 causes and 19 sub-causes that may contribute to accidents were identified, and 18 potential remedies, or independent protection layers (IPLs), were described as ways to protect employee health in foundry operations. A mechanical manufacturing business in Hunan, China was considered as a case study to demonstrate the applicability and benefits of the proposed safety assessment approach.

Abstract We have investigated the application of Monte Carlo significance tests to the verification of reference ranges in the context of the transfer of an established range from one laboratory to another. Here we present an introduction to the Monte Carlo technique, outline a procedure for performing these tests using a commercially available software program, and demonstrate some of the operating characteristics of the tests when they are used to compare samples of different sizes and variances.
