There are two typical seismic damage characteristics to the masonry building with frame shear wall structure at first two stories, and the lateral stiffness ratio of the third storey to the second storey is one of the key factors mostly affecting the seismic performance of this kind of building. However, some factors are not considered sufficiently in current Chinese seismic codes. According to the theory of performance-based seismic design, the seismic performance of this kind of structure is analyzed in this paper by taking time-history analysis on models which with different storey stiffness ratios. The results show that when the lateral stiffness ratio controlled in a reasonable range, the upper masonry deformation can be ensured in a range of elastic roughly, and the bottom frame can be guaranteed to have sufficient deformation and energy dissipation capacity. Finally, according to the seismic performance characteristics of masonry building with frame shear wall structure at first two stories, especially the characteristics under strong earthquakes, a method of simplified calculation model for the upper masonry is discussed in this paper.

In this study, four single-story reinforced masonry shear walls (RMSWs) (two prefabricated and two cast-in-place) under reversed cyclic loading were tested to evaluate their seismic performance. The aim of the study was to evaluate the shear behavior of RMSWs with flanges at the wall ends as well as the effect of construction method. The test results showed that all specimens had a similar failure mode with diagonal cracking. However, the crack distribution was strongly influenced by the construction method. The lateral capacity of the prefabricated walls was 12% and 27% higher than that of the corresponding cast-in-place walls with respect to the rectangular and T-shaped cross sections. The prefabricated walls showed better post-cracking performance than did the cast-in-place wall. The secant stiffness of all the walls decreased rapidly to approximately 63% of the initial stiffness when the first major diagonal crack was observed. The idealized equivalent elastic-plastic system showed that the prefabricated walls had a greater displacement ductility of 3.2–4.8 than that of the cast-in-place walls with a displacement ductility value of 2.3–2.7. This proved that the vertical joints in prefabricated RMSWs enhanced the seismic performance of walls in shear capacity and ductility. In addition, the equivalent viscous damping of the specimens ranged from 0.13 to 0.26 for prefabricated and cast-in-place walls, respectively.

A new connection measure between the precast concrete (PC) cladding panel and PC frame structure is proposed to realize a new kind of isostatic frame-cladding system. Three full-scale PC wall-frame substructures were tested under the quasi-static load. These substructures included a bare wall-frame specimen, a specimen with a cladding panel that has no opening, and a specimen with a cladding panel that has an opening in it. The damage evolution, failure mode, load-bearing capacity, deformation capacity, and energy dissipation capacity of three specimens were compared. The results indicated that the motions of the cladding panels and the main structures were uncoupled through the relative clearance of the bottom connections, and three specimens exhibited approximately identical failure modes and seismic performance. Thus, the reliability of this new isostatic system was validated.

Precast monolithic structures are increasingly applied in construction. Such a structure has a performance somewhere between that of a pure precast structure and that of a cast-in-place structure. A precast concrete frame structure is one of the most common prefabricated structural systems. The post-pouring joint is important for controlling the seismic performance of the entire precast monolithic frame structure. This paper investigated the joints of a precast prestressed concrete frame structure. A reversed cyclic loading test was carried out on two precast prestressed concrete beam–column joints that were fabricated with two different concrete strengths in the keyway area. This testing was also performed on a cast-in-place reinforced concrete joint for comparison. The phenomena such as joint crack development, yielding, and ultimate damage were observed, and the seismic performance of the proposed precast prestressed concrete joint was determined. The results showed that the precast prestressed concrete joint and the cast-in-place joint had a similar failure mode. The stiffness, bearing capacity, ductility, and energy dissipation were comparable. The hysteresis curves were full and showed that the joints had good energy dissipation. The presence of prestressing tendons limited the development of cracks in the precast beams. The concrete strength of the keyway area had little effect on the seismic performance of the precast prestressed concrete joints. The precast prestressed concrete joints had a seismic performance that was comparable to the equivalent monolithic system.

The randomness and uncertainty of seismic demand and structural capacity are considered in demand-capacity factor method (DCFM) which could give confidence level of different performance objectives. Evaluation steps of investigating seismic performance of steel reinforced concrete structures with DCFM are put forward, and factors in calculation formula are modified based on stress characteristics of SRC structures. A regular steel reinforced concrete frame structure is analyzed and the reliability level satisfying four seismic fortification targets are calculated. The evaluation results of static and dynamic nonlinear analysis are compared which indicates that the SRC frame has better seismic performance and incremental dynamic analysis could reflect more dynamic characteristics of structures than pushover method.
