Abstract. The potential of high-resolution repeat DEMs was investigated for glaciological applications including periglacial features (e.g. rock glaciers). It was shown that glacier boundaries can be delineated using airborne LIDAR-DEMs as a primary data source and that information on debris cover extent could be extracted using multi-temporal DEMs. Problems and limitations are discussed, and accuracies quantified. Absolute deviations of airborne laser scanning (ALS) derived glacier boundaries from ground-truthed ones were below 4 m for 80% of the ground-truthed values. Overall, we estimated an accuracy of +/−1.5% of the glacier area for glaciers larger than 1 km2. The errors in the case of smaller glaciers did not exceed +/−5% of the glacier area. The use of repeat DEMs in order to obtain information on the extent, characteristics and activity of rock glaciers was investigated and discussed based on examples.

In order to exploit efficiently very high resolution satellite multispectral data for precision agriculture applications, validated methodologies should be established which link the observed reflectance spectra with certain crop/plant/fruit biophysical and biochemical quality parameters. To this end, based on concurrent satellite and field campaigns during the veraison period, satellite and in-situ data were collected, along with several grape samples, at specific locations during the harvesting period. These data were collected for a period of three years in two viticultural areas in Northern Greece. After the required data pre-processing, canopy reflectance observations, through the combination of several vegetation indices were correlated with the quantitative results from the grape/must analysis of grape sampling. Results appear quite promising, indicating that certain key quality parameters (like brix levels, total phenolic content, brix to total acidity, anthocyanin levels) which describe the oenological potential, phenolic composition and chromatic characteristics can be efficiently estimated from the satellite data.

In the frame of the “Urban Geology” project of IGME a lot of remote sensing applications were carried out: DSMs creation and accuracy verification, orthorectification of very high resolution satellite data, data fusion, multitemporal and multisensor image analysis, land cover and land use change detection e.t.c. The applications that took place in the pilot case of Nafplio are presented in this study

Stereopairs of very-high resolution satellite imagery constitute one of the key high-accurate data sources on heights. A stereophotogrammetric technique is a key method of processing these data. Despite that a number of spacecrafts gathering very-high-resolution imagery in a stereo mode constantly increases, the area of the Earth regularly covered by such data and stored in the archives of RSD operators remains relatively small and, as a rule, is limited only to large urban agglomerations. The new collection may not suit the customer for several reasons. Firstly, the materials of the new stereo collection are more expensive than those of the archived one. Secondly, due to unfavourable weather conditions and a busy schedule of satellites, the completion of the new collection may go beyond the deadline specified by the customer. Well known and brand-new criteria to form multi-temporal, stereopairs are analyzed. The specific of photogrammetric processing multi-temporal stereopairs is demonstrated. Application of multi-temporal stereopairs is described. In conclusion it is confirmed that 3D-models and high accurate DTMs can be generated basing on stereo models from multi-temporal satellite imagery in the absence of the following data
