This paper focus on fatigue problem of submarine pipelines, four points bending full scale fatigue experiment were conducted on X65 pipelines butt joints specimens, utilizing pipeline full scale fatigue test machine developed by CNPC. Meanwhile contrast test was also carried out on small specimens. The results show that the fatigue strength of full scale welded joints is lower than the small scale joints. Owing to having no regard for the influence of residual stress and size effect, the small test would provide dangerous results. The fatigue property of full scale welded joints only meets the requirement of DNV C203 W3 curve, and meets the needs of DNV C203 F3 curve basically while not meet BS 7608 F2 curve’s requirements which relatively demand higher. Weld toe and geometric discontinuous near weld root is the weak point for the whole welded joints.

An experiment is described in which the strain energy at the critical location for fatigue failure is maintained constant while the stresses on a given plane of the material at the same location are caused to fluctuate. Apparatus developed to produce this condition consisted of a circular disk with a wide flanged rim which was loaded along a diameter by means of pivot-pad bearings. The disk was then rotated under a constant load to produce the desired fluctuation in stresses at the center of the disk while maintaining a constant strain energy at the center. The fact that fatigue cracks were developed in the region of constant strain energy was considered to indicate that a concept of a fluctuating strain energy as a basic theory of failure by fatigue under combined stresses is not tenable.

High whiteness of the paper, as well as inappropriate reading background color will produce a strong eye irritation, thus affecting the reading results. The paper studyed the relationship between the background color and visual fatigue, aimed to get a proper background color which can reduce visual fatigue. Experiment from three aspects to study: single color and visual fatigue relationship, the relationship between synthetic colors and visual fatigue, the relationship between paper whiteness and visual fatigue. Statistical analysis: single color is not appropriate as a long-length read background color; compared with the single-color samples, synthetic color helps relieve visual fatigue, and the most suitable background colors are tan and Moccasins color; the cultural paper with higher whiteness easily cause visual fatigue, so appropriatly reduce the whiteness helps relieve visual fatigue.

Surface treatment was carried out on the butt joint weldment of 16MnR steel by using the HJ-II-type ultrasonic impact machine. The ultrasonic impact current is 1.2A, the impact amplitude is 30 microns and ultrasonic impacting time is 30min and 60 min, respectively. Fatigue experiment was carried out for both treated specimen and un-treated specimen. The fatigue fracture observed with the scanning electron microscope of 6360LA type. The experimental results show that the fatigue life of the butt joint weldment of 16MnR steel can be significantly improved through the ultrasonic impact treatment. The main reason is that the ultrasonic impact can reduces the stress concentration in the weld toe, decrease the tensile stress, and even change to compressive stress in the weldment, the grain size in the welded joint can be refined. The longer the impact time, the greater increasing range of fatigue life will be. Compared to the sample without treatment, its fatigue life was increased 375.22%, 521.24%, respectively, when the impact time was 30, 60min, respectively.
