Writer identification problem is one of the important area of research due to its various applications and is a challenging task. The major research on writer identification is based on handwritten English documents with text independent and dependent. However, there is no significant work on identification of writers based on Kannada document. Hence, in this paper, we propose a text-independent method for off-line writer identification based on Kannada handwritten scripts. By observing each individual’s handwriting as a different texture image, a set of features based on Discrete Cosine Transform, Gabor filtering and gray level co-occurrence matrix, are extracted from preprocessed document image blocks. Experimental results demonstrate that the Gabor energy features are more potential than the DCTs and GLCMs based features for writer identification from 20 people.

Machine vision based surface roughness inspection method is applied to assess different cylindrical grinding surfaces under LED illumination. Images directly recorded by a camera are analyzed by gray level co-occurrence matrix (GLCM) method to discover its texture information. It shows obviously relationship between feature values of the matrix and their corresponding surface roughness values. Uniform table are also designed to choose optimal parameters, which is five of distance between pixel pairs and ninety degree of angle to calculate GLCM. Entropy is chosen to represent different surface roughness images by comparison of correlation coefficients between the parameters and the corresponding surface roughness values.

A higher level of image processing usually contains some kind of classification or recognition. Digit classification is an important subfield in handwritten recognition. Handwritten digits are characterized by large variations so template matching, in general, is inefficient and low in accuracy. In this paper, we propose the classification of the digit of the year of a relic inscription in the Kingdom of Majapahit using Support Vector Machine (SVM). This method is able to cope with very large feature dimensions and without reducing existing features extraction. While the method used for feature extraction using the Gray-Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM), special for texture analysis. This experiment is divided into 10 classification class, namely: class 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and class 0. Each class is tested with 10 data so that the whole data testing are 100 data number year. The use of GLCM and SVM methods have obtained an average of classification results about 77 %.

Lately, there is often a mixture of beef and pork done by traders to the general public as buyers. This is due to the unconsciousness of the buyer on how to recognize the type of meat purchased. The effect of this meat mix can certainly be detrimental to buyers, especially Muslims. Image processing is a general term for various methods in which it is used to manipulate and modify images in various ways. Classification is a method of grouping some information and ensuring it is listed in a class.. Classification of beef and pork differentiator in this application using Artificial Neural Network (ANN) method while for texture extraction using Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) method. The information used in the examination was 30 images of fresh meat divided into 15 images of fresh beef and 15 images of fresh pork. The data used is data Classification of Beef and Pork Image based on Color and Texture Characteristics. The result of classification accuracy obtained in this application is 80%.

AbstractThe need for a fast and robust method to characterize nanostructure thickness is growing due to the tremendous number of experiments and their associated applications. By automatically analyzing the microscopic image texture of MoS2 and WS2, it was possible to distinguish monolayer from few-layer nanostructures with high accuracy for both materials. Three methods of texture analysis (TA) were used: grey level histogram (GLH), grey levels co-occurrence matrix (GLCOM), and run-length matrix (RLM), which correspond to first, second, and higher-order statistical methods, respectively. The best discriminating features were automatically selected using the Fisher coefficient, for each method, and used as a base for classification. Two classifiers were used: artificial neural networks (ANN), and linear discriminant analysis (LDA). RLM with ANN was found to give high classification accuracy, which was 89% and 95% for MoS2 and WS2, respectively. The result of this work suggests that RLM, as a higher-order TA method, associated with an ANN classifier has a better ability to quantify and characterize the microscopic structure of nanolayers, and, therefore, categorize thickness to the proper class.

Kata kunci: Analisa tekstur, wavelet extension, co–occurrence matrix, myocardial infarction, sifat vektor Texture analysis is an important characteristic for surface and object identification from medical images and many other types of images. This research has developed an algorithm for texture analysis using medical images do trained from echocardiography in identifying heart with suspected myocardial infarction problem. A set of combination of wavelet extension transform with gray level co–occurrence matrix is proposed. In this work, wavelet extension transform is used to form an image approximation with higher resolution. The gray level co–occurrence matrices computed for each subband are used to extract four feature vectors: entropy, contrast, energy (angular second moment) and homogeneity (inverse difference moment). The classifier used in this work is the Mahalanobis distance classifier. The method is tested with clinical data from echocardiography images of 17 patients. For each patient, tissue samples are taken from suspected infarcted area as well as from non–infarcted (normal) area. For each patient, 8 frames separated by some time interval are used and for each frame, 5 normal regions and 5 suspected myocardial infarction regions of 16×16 pixel size are analyzed. The classification performance achieved 91.32% accuracy. Key words: Texture analysis, wavelet extension, co–occurrence matrix, myocardial infarction, feature vector
