Supply chains are complex networks that receive assiduous attention in the literature. Like any complex network, a supply chain is subject to a wide variety of risks that can result in significant economic losses and negative impacts in terms of image and prestige for companies. In circumstances of aggressive competition among companies, effective management of supply chain risks (SCRs) is crucial, and is currently a very active field of research. Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA) has been recently extended to SCR identification and prioritization, aiming at reducing potential losses caused by lack of risk control. This article has a twofold objective. First, SCR assessment is investigated, and a comprehensive list of specific risks related to the automotive industry is compiled to extend the set of most commonly considered risks. Second, an alternative way of calculating the Risk Priority Number (RPN) is proposed within the FMECA framework by means of an integrated Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) approach. We give a new calculation procedure by making use of the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to derive factors weights, and then the fuzzy Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) to evaluate the new factor of “dependence” among the risks. The developed joint analysis constitutes a risk analysis support tool for criticality in systems engineering. The approach also deals with uncertainty and vagueness associated with input data through the use of fuzzy numbers. The results obtained from a relevant case study in the automotive industry showcase the effectiveness of this approach, which brings important value to those companies: When planning interventions of prevention/mitigation, primary importance should be given to (1) supply chain disruptions due to natural disasters; (2) manufacturing facilities, human resources, policies and breakdown processes; and (3) inefficient transport.

In recent years, supply chains have become increasingly vulnerable to risks resulting in poor financial performance and customer service. Managing the supply chain risks is a challenging task. Resilience and responsiveness based strategies are being attempted to build a robust supply chain. To select the appropriate mitigation strategies, supply chain risks are to be prioritized. Supply chain risk prioritization is a Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) problem. MCDM models for supply chain risk prioritization needs attention. In this research, a hybrid Analytic Hierarch Process (AHP) and Preference Ranking Organization METHod for Enrichment Evaluation (PROMETHEE) approach is proposed for supply chain risk prioritization. A case example of a typical tractor industry is presented to illustrate the performance of the proposed approach.

Risk occurance in the supply chain is unavoidable. Basically, a great portion of these risks comes from suppliers. Timely identification of the risks and using appropriate preventive actions to reduce the probability and impact of their occurrence play a significant role in increasing organizational efficiency, improving product quality and satisfying customers. Developing a systematic and efficient mechanism is a prerequisite for properly identifying and assessing the supply chain risks and making correct decision. Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is a known engineering technique and risk assessment tool to define, identify, and eliminate potential failures and errors in the products, processes, projects, and services. In this paper, FMEA approach is combined with multi-criteria decision-making techniques to make a systematic mechanism for assessing supply chain risks and prioritizing candidate flour suppliers in Sahar bread industrial group. In the proposed model, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) is used to determine the risk’s weights and VIKOR method is applied for assessing and ranking the suppliers. Results shew that among the identified risks, “cost risk group” with the weight "0.43" is the most important. Therefor the company officials have to adopt appropriate policies, carefully, to deal with this risk. Moreover, final evaluation of flour suppliers in the company indicates that according to all criteria, the fourth supplier achieves the highest priority and it is selected as the most qualified flour supplier for the company.

Ranking supply chain risks is as an important part of supply chain risk management especially when the numbers of risk factors are increased. In this study, the comprehensive structure of the main risks are prepared in three levels of the supply chain (3 total sets, 7 sub-categories and 34 categories and 300 subcategories) initially and then these risks are evaluated and ranked in the steel supply chain in Esfahan Steel Complex as a case study. For this purpose, group decision-making methods and means of collection and aggregation experts and linear assignment method is used as a method of Multiple Decision Making to determine the ranking of risks. Ranking indexes were divided in two primary and secondary categories. The primary index is based on likelihood and impact of risks on the main objectives (schedule, cost, quality and scope) of supply chain activities with different weights. The second category of indicators includesocio-economic effects, environmental impacts, near the time of risk, exposure to risk, the confidence level of the estimates and the management of risk, risk reduction and risk discovering. Risks are ranked better using linear assignment method and according to various indices and are ranked more realistic. Based on the results, risks related to procurement and supplier are identified and introduced as the most critical risks.

In the past decade, global competition are forcing firms to increase their level of outsourcing for raw or semi-finished products and building long term relationship with their supply chain partners. The objective is to present a wide-ranging decision making technique for ranking supplier alternatives in view of the effect of selected criteria. A proposed method is developed aiming the usage of Fuzzy-Rasch model applying five point Likert scale for criteria weight and Grey based COmplex PRoportional ASsessment (COPRAS-G) method for evaluating and ranking the potential alternatives, as per criteria. The applicability of the induced methodology for supplier selection problem in all environments is shown through a case study in telecommunication sector. A sensitivity analysis is performed based on changing weight patterns of criteria to show the stability in ranking result of the proposed approach. Further, a comparative analysis between the ranking results of proposed method done with existing grey multi-attribute decision-making methods viz. VIKOR-G, ARAS-G and TOPSIS-G using spearman’s correlation coefficient for checking the reliability of the ranking result.
