Let g be any real-valued, bounded and compactly supported function, whose integer-translates {Tkg}k∈ℤ form a partition of unity. Based on a new construction of dual windows associated with Gabor frames generated by g, we present a method to explicitly construct dual pairs of Gabor frames. This new method of construction is based on a family of polynomials which is closely related to the Daubechies polynomials, used in the construction of compactly supported wavelets. For any k ∈ ℕ ∪ {∞} we consider the Meyer scaling functions and use these to construct compactly supported windows g ∈ Ck(ℝ) associated with a family of smooth compactly supported dual windows [Formula: see text]. For any n ∈ ℕ the pair of dual windows g, hn ∈ Ck(ℝ) have compact support in the interval [-2/3, 2/3] and share the property of being constant on half the length of their support. We therefore obtain arbitrary smoothness of the dual pair of windows g, hn without increasing their support.

In the paper, we present a family of multivariate compactly supported scaling functions, which we call as elliptic scaling functions. The elliptic scaling functions are the convolution of elliptic splines, which correspond to homogeneous elliptic differential operators, with distributions. The elliptic scaling functions satisfy refinement relations with real isotropic dilation matrices. The elliptic scaling functions satisfy most of the properties of the univariate cardinal B-splines: compact support, refinement relation, partition of unity, total positivity, order of approximation, convolution relation, Riesz basis formation (under a restriction on the mask), etc. The algebraic polynomials contained in the span of integer shifts of any elliptic scaling function belong to the null-space of a homogeneous elliptic differential operator. Similarly to the properties of the B-splines under differentiation, it is possible to define elliptic (not necessarily differential) operators such that the elliptic scaling functions satisfy relations with these operators. In particular, the elliptic scaling functions can be considered as a composition of segments, where the function inside a segment, like a polynomial in the case of the B-splines, vanishes under the action of the introduced operator.

In this paper, we present an explicit method to construct directly in the x-domain compactly supported scaling functions corresponding to the wavelets adapted to a sum of differential operators with constant coefficients. Here the adaptation to an operator is taken to mean that the wavelets give a diagonal form of the operator matrix. We show that the biorthogonal compactly supported wavelets adapted to a sum of differential operators with constant coefficients are closely connected with the representation of the null-space of the adjoint operator by the corresponding scaling functions. We consider the necessary and sufficient conditions (actually the Strang–Fix conditions) on integer shifts of a compactly supported function (distribution) f ∈ S'(ℝ) to represent exactly any function from the null-space of a sum of differential operators with constant coefficients.

Frames is a strong tool to obtain series expansions in Hilbert spaces under less restrictive conditions than imposed by orthonormal bases. In order to apply frame theory it is necessary to construct a pair of so called dual frames. The goal of the article is to provide explicit constructions of dual pairs of frames having Gabor structure. Unlike the results presented in the literature we do not base the constructions on a generator satisfying the partition of unity constraint.

In this paper, the notion of biorthogonal two-directional shortly supported wavelets with poly-scale is developed. A new method for designing two-directional biorthogonal wavelets is proposed. The existence of shortly supported biorthogonal vector-valued wavelets associated with a pair of biorthogonal compactly supported vector-valued scaling functions is investigated. A novel constructive method for designing a sort of biorthogonal vector-valued wavelet wraps is presented and their biorthogonality traits are characerized. Two biorthogonality formulas regarding these wavelet wraps are established.

In this work, the notion of vector-valued multiresolution analysis and biort- ogonal vector–valued wavelets is introduced. The existence of compactly supported biorthogonal vector-valued wavelets associated with a pair of biorthogonal compactly supported vector-valued scaling functions is investigated. A new method for constructing a class of biorthogonal compactly supported vector-valued wavelet functions is presented by using multiresolution analysis and matrix theory.

The paper aims to develop for sequence spacesEa general concept for reconciling certain results, for example inclusion theorems, concerning generalizations of the Köthe-Toeplitz dualsE×(×∈{α,β})combined with dualities(E,G),G⊂E×, and theSAK-property (weak sectional convergence). TakingEβ:={(yk)∈ω:=𝕜ℕ|(ykxk)∈cs}=:Ecs, wherecsdenotes the set of all summable sequences, as a starting point, then we get a general substitute ofEcsby replacingcsby any locally convex sequence spaceSwith sums∈S′(in particular, a sum space) as defined by Ruckle (1970). This idea provides a dual pair(E,ES)of sequence spaces and gives rise for a generalization of the solid topology and for the investigation of the continuity of quasi-matrix maps relative to topologies of the duality(E,Eβ). That research is the basis for general versions of three types of inclusion theorems: two of them are originally due to Bennett and Kalton (1973) and generalized by the authors (see Boos and Leiger (1993 and 1997)), and the third was done by Große-Erdmann (1992). Finally, the generalizations, carried out in this paper, are justified by four applications with results around different kinds of Köthe-Toeplitz duals and related section properties.

In the recent years, several new construction methods of fuzzy implications have been proposed. However, these construction methods actually care about that the new implication could preserve more properties. In this paper, we introduce a new method for constructing fuzzy implications based on an aggregation function with F (1,  0) =1, a fuzzy implication I and a non-decreasing function φ, called FIφ-construction. Specifically, some logical properties of fuzzy implications preserved by this construction are studied. Moreover, it is studied how to use the FIφ-construction to produce a new implication satisfying a specific property. Furthermore, we produce two new subclasses of fuzzy implications such as UIφ-implications and GpIφ-implications by this method and discuss some additional properties. Finally, we provide a way to generate fuzzy subsethood measures by means of FIφ-implications.

AbstractA new method for classifying naturally reductive spaces is presented. This method relies on a new construction and the structure theory of naturally reductive spaces recently developed by the author. This method is applied to obtain the classification of all naturally reductive spaces in dimension 7 and 8.

Abstract A theory of higher rank multiresolution analysis is given in the setting of abelian multiscalings. This theory enables the construction, from a higher rank MRA, of finite wavelet sets whose multidilations have translates forming an orthonormal basis in L2(ℝd). While tensor products of uniscaled MRAs provide simple examples we construct many nonseparable higher rank wavelets. In particular we construct Latin square wavelets as rank 2 variants of Haar wavelets. Also we construct nonseparable scaling functions for rank 2 variants of Meyer wavelet scaling functions, and we construct the associated nonseparable wavelets with compactly supported Fourier transforms. On the other hand we show that compactly supported scaling functions for biscaled MRAs are necessarily separable.
