This paper considers the stability andH∞control problem of networked control systems with time delay. Taking into account the influence of network with delay, unknown input disturbance, and uncertainties of the system modeling, meanwhile we establish a precise, closed-loop model for networked control systems with time delay. By selecting a proper Lyapunov-Krasovskii function and using Lyapunov theorem, a sufficient condition for stability of the system in the form of LMI is demonstrated, corresponding controller parameters are acquired, and the convergence of the control algorithm is proved. The simulation example shows that the construction of the network robust control system with time delay indeed improves the stability performance of the system, which indicates the effectiveness of the design.

Networked control system is a research area where the theory is behind practice. Closing the feedback loop through shared network induces time delay and some of the data could be lost. So the network induced time delay and data loss are inevitable in networked control Systems. The time delay may degrade the performance of control systems or even worse lead to system instability. Once the structure of a networked control system is confirmed, it is essential to identify the maximum time delay allowed for maintaining the system stability which, in turn, is also associated with the process of controller design. Some studies reported methods for estimating the maximum time delay allowed for maintaining system stability; however, most of the reported methods are normally overcomplicated for practical applications. A method based on the finite difference approximation is proposed in this paper for estimating the maximum time delay tolerance, which has a simple structure and is easy to apply.

This note focuses on the stability and stabilization problem of nonlinear networked control system with time delay. To alleviate the burden of transformation channel and shorten the dynamic process simultaneously, an improved event-triggered scheme is proposed. This paper employs an improved time delay method to enhance the performance and reduce the delay upper bound conservatism. Less conservative stability criteria related to the order N are derived by establishing an augmented Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional manufactured for the use of Bessel-Legendre inequality. In addition, an event-triggered controller is designed for nonlinear networked control system with time delay. At last, numerical examples are proposed to verify the effectiveness of the new method.

Abstract In this paper we study the effect of external perturbations on a networked control system. We start by assuming that the non-networked system without perturbation is exponentially stable. Then, for fast enough networks we show that if the perturbation is bounded the networked system is ultimately bounded and if the perturbation is vanishing then the networked system is asymptotically stable. We conclude the paper with simulations verifying the results.

The network disturbance effect can be considered as either a perturbation or as a pure time delay for the exchanged signals. The network-induced time delay is one of the main challenges when a network is inserted in the feedback loops of a control system. In this paper, our objective is to improve the behavior of a Networked Control System (NCS) by analyzing the time-delay given that the decentralized control design method is adopted. First, we review an observer-based control method for decentralized control systems. Second, we establish a map between the decentralized non-networked system, and the typical NCS state-space representation. The main idea the mapping is to put the Decentralized Networked Control System (DNCS) in a general form and then map the resulting system to the typical NCS form. Third, we derive the global dynamics of the DNCS. Fourth, an upper bound for the time-delay is derived that guarantees the stability of LTI DNCSs. Finally, we present a numerical example that illustrates the applicability of the derived bound.

As a key feature of networked control systems (NCSs), the time delays induced by communication medium sharing and data exchange over the system components could largely degrade the NCS performances or may even cause system instability, and thus, it is of critical importance to reduce time delays within NCSs. This paper studies the time-delay reduction problem in distributed NCSs and presents a dual-way data scheduling mechanism for time-delay reductions in delay-bounded NCSs with time-varying delays. We assess the time delays and their influences on the NCSs first with various delay factors being considered and then describe a one-way scheduling mechanism for network-delay reductions in NCSs. Based upon such a method, a dual-way scheduling algorithm is finally proposed for distributed NCSs with different types of transmitted data packets. Experiments are conducted on a remote teaching platform to verify the effectiveness of the proposed dual-way scheduling mechanism. Results demonstrate that, with the stability time-delay bound considered within the scheduling process, the proposed mechanism is effective for NCS time-delay reductions while addressing the stability, control accuracy, and settling time issues efficiently. Such a proposed mechanism could also be implemented together with some other existing control algorithms for time-delay reductions in NCSs. Our work could provide both useful theoretical guidance and application references for stable tracking control of delay-bounded NCSs.

For Networked Control System (NCS) with random network-induced delay and packet loss, an observer is designed to reconstruct the states using output values. A piece-wise time-delay strategy and the timestamp technique are used, improving the system performance. Depending on whether data dropout occurs or not, system is modeled as an Asynchronous Dynamical System (ADS), and theorem guaranteeing the system closed-loop stability is also given. Based on Lyapunov and Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI), controller gain and observer gain are solved and TrueTime toolbox is used to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Networked control systems (NCSs) are attracting the attention of control system engineers. The NCS has created a paradigm shift in control system technology. An NCS consists of control loops joined through communication networks in which both the control signal and the feedback signal are exchanged between the system and the controller. However, its materialization faces several challenges as it requires the integration of advanced control and communication techniques. This paper presents an extensive review of NCSs from the perspective of control system design. The evolution of NCSs is broadly divided in three phases, namely NCSs prior to 2000, NCSs during 2001–2010, and NCSs from 2011 onwards. This division corresponds to the initial status, intermediate status, and the recent status of the developments in the design of NCSs. The advancement of different control techniques during these phases has been discussed comprehensively. This paper also describes the transition of control systems form continuous domain to networked domain, which makes it better than the traditional control systems. Some important practical applications, which have been implemented using NCSs, have also been discussed. The thrust areas for future research on NCS have also been identified.
