Geospatial-qualitative methods, which combine both observation and interpretative accounts during data collection through extended exposure and movement in place, have been increasingly used to explore “person–place” interactions and assess communities of place. Despite their increased use, there is a lack of reflexive discussion on how they differ in capturing person–place interactions and ways to combine them. Drawing on our experiences using three related methods—Photovoice, Walking through Spaces, and interactive Participatory Learning and Action exercise-led community focus groups—we compared the methodological advantages that each method brings to the construction of “place” and in exploring person–place interactions among the community of older adults living in a neighborhood of Singapore for a neighborhood assessment. We then illustrated how using a Focus–Expand–Compare approach for methodological triangulation can add value in generating greater depth and breadth of perspectives on a topic of interest explored for intervention development.

Abstrak: Ujian Kompetensi Keahlian (UKK) Nasional merupakan langkah pemerintah dalam meningkatkan keterampilan siswa Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan (SMK) hingga nanti menjadi salah satu penentu kelulusan siswa. Untuk membantu siswa dalam mempersiapkan UKK Nasional, SMK PGRI Pangkalpinang memberikan pelatihan yang berfokus pada peningkatan motivasi dan skill siswa dalam bidang multimedia. Kegiatan pelatihan dilaksanakan dengan metode Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) dimana partisipasi aktif dari siswa sangat diharapkan. Hal ini sesuai dengan fungsi PLA yang mengutamakan partisipasi, yang dapat berupa diskusi. Nantinya hasil diskusi inilah yang dijadikan acuan sebagai materi pengajaran kepada peserta. Kegiatan terdiri dari tahapan pra kegiatan, tahapan pelaksanaan kegiatan, dan tahapan evaluasi kegiatan. Tugas berupa simulasi UKK Nasional juga diberikan untuk mengetahui kesiapan siswa. Di akhir kegiatan juga diberikan survei post test untuk mengetahui tingkat keberhasilan kegiatan ini. Dari 10 pernyataan yang diberikan didapat nilai rataan sebesar 4,15 yang berarti siswa telah memahami materi yang diberikan dengan baik.Abstract: The National Skills Competency Examination (UKK) is one of government efforts to improve the skills of Vocational High School (SMK) students and become one of students' determinants of graduation. To assist students in preparing for the National UKK, SMK PGRI Pangkalpinang provides training that focuses on increasing students motivation and skills in the multimedia area. The training activities are conducted using the Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) method, where active participation from students is highly expected. This is in accordance with the PLA's function which prioritizes the participation, which can be held in the form of discussion. The results of this discussion will be used as a reference as teaching material to participants. The activity consists of the pre-activity stage, the activity implementation stage, and the activity evaluation stage. Assignments in the form of a National UKK simulation were also given to determine student readiness. At the end of the activity, a post-test survey was also given to determine the level of success of this activity. From the 10 statements given, the average value is 4.15, which means the students already understood the given material.

National examination for skills competency at vocational high schools is held annually by the central government. The implementation of the national examination is one of the determinants of graduation apart. A national examination is also used for three other things: mapping, selecting to a higher level, and providing assistance or affirmation to the regions. Local governments can also use the national examination to mapping the achievements' standards for students, academic units, and regions. This community service aims to help students increase students' readiness and expertise in solving the national exam for competency skills in the multimedia field. This activity's target is the XII grade students of SMK NW Wanasaba, the main partners. This activity's target and output is the development of skills to work on skills competency National Examination questions, which are skills. The method is Participatory Learning and Action (PLA). This activity was providing practical knowledge and skills to students of SMK NW Wanasaba. This expertise competency training, especially in the multimedia field, can help students prepare for expertise competency exams to get maximum results and improve student competence.

This writing discusses the implementation of the Old Age Insurance (JHT) benefit policy in Gorontalo Province. JHT membership in Gorontalo Province is still low. JHT is a social security needed by workers and can be enjoyed when entering retirement age. This writing uses descriptive qualitative methods with data collection techniques through the study of literature. The result of this paper is that the implementation of JHT benefits policy in Gorontalo is influenced by the content and context of the policy itself. One context is the existence of community needs which are seen as not having placed JHT as an important thing in social security for workers. This emphasizes the need for BPJS Employment to improve socialization, education and expand partnerships for better JHT sustainability. Penulisan ini membahas mengenai implementasi kebijakan manfaat Jaminan Hari Tua (JHT) di Provinsi Gorontalo. Kepesertaan JHT di Provinsi Gorontalo masih rendah. JHT merupakan jaminan sosial yang diperlukan oleh tenaga kerja dan dapat dinikmati ketika memasuki usia pensiun. Penulisan ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui studi literatur. Hasil dari penulisan ini yakni implementasi kebijakan manfaat JHT di Gorontalo dipengaruhi konten dan konteks kebijakan itu sendiri. Salah satu konteksnya ialah adanya kebutuhan masyarakat yang dipandang belum menempatkan JHT sebagai hal penting dalam jaminan sosial bagi pekerja. Hal ini menekankan perlu BPJS Ketenagakerjaan untuk meningkatkan sosiallisasi, edukasi dan memerluas kemitraan untuk keberlangsungan JHT yang lebih baik

AbstractObjectiveTo investigate the nutritional impact of a community-based programme that focused on social cohesion and action.DesignThe change in nutritional status of children aged 12–60 months was examined over a period of 3 years in Makueni District in Eastern Province of Kenya in six communities in which an intervention programme of Participatory Learning and Action was introduced and in ten communities in which only basic preparations were made but no intervention was started.SettingThe intervention was part of the Government of Kenya Community Based Nutrition Programme and was supported by the Government of Denmark.SubjectsChildren aged 12–60 months.ResultsAmong communities without intervention there were similar levels of underweight (mean Z-score: −1·63 v. −1·50 (NS); % with Z-score < –2: 36·6 % v. 34·5 % (NS)) and stunting (mean Z-score: −2·0 v. −1·99 (NS); % with Z-score < –2: 44·3 % and 47·4 % (NS)) at baseline and after 3 years. By contrast, among communities who had received interventions, there were significant improvements after 3 years in the levels of underweight (mean Z-score: −1·66 v. −1·37 (P < 0·02); % with Z-score < –2: 42·9 % v. 31·4 % (P < 0·035)) and stunting (mean Z-score: −2·05 v. −1·59 (P < 0·05); % with Z-score < –2: 52·7 % v. 39·7 % (P < 0·02)).ConclusionsThe results indicate considerable potential for using Participatory Learning and Action as a community-based approach to effectively address child undernutrition. It is suggested that these interventions are developed, implemented and evaluated more widely as a mean of tackling childhood undernutrition and improving child survival and development.

The introduction of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) into the human population represents a tremendous medical and economical crisis. The immune system plays a central role in protecting against this novel virus. This activity aimed to empower young generation using participatory learning and action approach to improve their knowledge about medicinal plants that grow in Indonesia and whose anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and antiviral properties. Organoleptic test results showed that Kunyit Asam (consisted of turmeric and ginger) and Tealang (consisted of butterfly pea and lemongrass) were highly favored by panelists. Our results provide valuable information on the medicinal plants used as an immunity booster within the studied community.

Tujuan pengabdian ini adalah meningkatkan pemahaman konsep wisata syariah bagi pelaku ekonomi sektor pariwisata, meningkatkan pelayanan di sektor pariwisata dan meningkatkan pendapatan bagi para pelaku ekonomi di sektor pariwisata di kabupaten Rokan Hulu provinsi Riau. Adapun subjek dari pengabdian ini adalah para pelaku ekonomi sektor pariwisata yang ada di mesjid Agung Islamic Centre kabupaten Rokan Hulu. Sedangkan Objeknya adalah peningkatan pemahaman tentang pariwisata syariah. Metode pemberdayaan adalah Model Pemberdayaan PLA (Participatory Learning and Action), atau Proses Belajar dan Praktek Secara Partisipatif dengan mengadakan Uji Kompetensi Awal dan akhir. Bedasarkan hasil pengabdian dapat disimpulkan bahwa Pengetahuan dan pemahaman pelaku ekonomi sektor pariwisata di Mesjid Agung Islamic centre kabupaten Rokan Hulu tentang konsep wisata syariah menjadi meningkat.   Kata Kunci : Pemberdayan, Pemahaman, Pelaku ekonomi, pariwisata syariah

Abstract. The purpose of this community empowerment activity is to increase the competitiveness of MSMEs through the "MELEK (Brand, Lebel and Packaging) MSME" program. The community empowerment method used in this activity is Participatory Learning and Action. The location of the activity was carried out at Kicimpring MSME in Cimara Village, Kuningan Regency, West Java Province. The reason for selecting community empowerment locations is because Kicimpring MSMEs do not yet have brands, labels and only have simple product packaging. Community empowerment activities are carried out through three stages: 1) Planning, 2) actions, 3) evaluation and monitoring. The results of this community empowerment activity are: 1) MSMEs have an awareness of the importance of brand, product labels and packaging, 2) MSMEs can determine the right trademark, 3) there are improvements to product packaging, 3) an increase in product image in the eyes of consumers, 4) an increase in sales of products after the product was given a brand, label and packaging. Based on evaluation and monitoring it can be concluded that the "MELEK UMKM" program can improve the competitiveness of MSMEs.Keywords: Brand; Labels; Packaging; MSMEsAbstrak. Tujuan kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakat ini adalah untuk meningkatkan daya saing UMKM melalaui program “MELEK (Merek, Lebel dan Kemasan) UMKM”. Metode pemberdayaan masyarakat yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah Participatory Learning and Action. Lokasi kegiatan dilaksanakan pada UMKM Kicimpring di Desa Cimara Kabupaten Kuningan Provinsi Jawa Barat. Alasan pemilihan lokasi pemberdayaan masyarakat adalah karena UMKM Kicimpring belum memiliki merek, label serta hanya memiliki kemasan produk yang sederhana. Kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakat dilakukan melalui tiga tahapan yaitu 1) Perencanaan, 2) tindakan, 3) evaluasi dan monitoring. Hasil dari kegiatan pemberdayaan masyarakat ini yaitu : 1) UMKM memiliki kesadaran mengenai pentingnya merek, label dan kemasan produk, 2) UMKM dapat menentukan merek dagang yang tepat, 3) adanya perbaikan kemasan produk, 3) adanya peningkatan citra produk dimata konsumen, 4) adanya peningkatan penjualan produk pasca produk diberi merek, label dan kemasan. Berdasarkan evaluasi dan monitoring dapat disimpulkan bahwa program “MELEK UMKM” dapat meningkatkan daya saing UMKM. Kata Kunci : Merek; Lebel; Kemasan; UMKM
