Abstract Background This study aimed to evaluate the effect of mandibular complete dentures relining using soft relining material on the distribution of various occlusal forces using T-Scan system. Fifty completely edentulous patients having their conventional complete dentures earlier fabricated and utilized were selected for this study. Patients were controlled diabetics, characterized by having their residual alveolar ridges moderately developed and lined with firm mucoperiosteum. Mandibular complete dentures were relined with soft denture liner and T-Scan device was used for occlusal force distribution measurement prior to denture relining and three months thereafter the relinning procedure. Results Comparison between occlusal forces percentages before and after denture relining revealed that occlusal forces percentages was significantly lower after denture relining in anterior area, significantly higher after denture relining in right posterior area, where it was insignificantly higher after relining in left posterior area. Conclusions Our findings revealed that the use of soft denture liner for mandibular complete denture relining significantly improved the occlusal load distribution. AIM: The study was conducted to evaluate maximum biting force (MBF) in two different attachment systems (bollard a vs. ball and socket attachment) retaining mandibular overdenture using a split-mouth design. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Twelve completely edentulous patients received complete dentures and after adaption of the patient with the new denture, 24 implants were inserted in the canine region using two-stage surgical technique and conventional loading protocol. Six patients received the Bollard attachment at the right side and the Ball and Socket at the left side. Moreover, the other six patients received the bollard attachment at the left side and the ball and socket attachment at the right side. Each patient was treated according to split-mouth design. Insertion of each of the attachment type was assigned randomly. Using occlusal force meter instrument, MBF was measured immediately after loading (0), after 6 months (6), and after 12 months (12). RESULTS: Significant statistical differences (p < 0.05) were obvious in in MBF between Attachment (1) and Attachment (2) immediately after loading (0 months), after 6 months (6) and after 12 months (12) follow-up visits. CONCLUSION: Mandibular implant retained overdenture received Bollard abutment that retained with the denture by the help of resilient liner “Retention.sil”* without housing have higher biting forces than mandibular implant retained overdenture with ball abutment where the plastic house was picked up by monomer free self-cured acrylic resin.

<p><strong>Background</strong>: A realistic approach to the phonetic aspect in complete denture construction is most often subdued by various factors. The palatal rugae, an important landmark in speech orderliness, are frequently affected due to lack of proper texture on a complete denture. Establishing a correlation between customized palatal surfaces of complete dentures and speech improvement will help to ameliorate post insertion appointments of articulation deficiencies.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>Ten completely edentulous subjects of either sex with a mean age range of 50-70 years, fulfilling the inclusion criteria were included in this study. All the participants received three sets of dentures, followed by assessment of speech using photo articulation test, speech intelligibility and acoustic analysis in edentulous state and subsequently after insertion of conventional denture, denture with customized rugae, and denture with customized metallic base.</p><p><strong>Results:</strong> The data collected was subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS 24.0 version and GraphPad Prism version 5. The statistical analysis was carried using ANOVA and student t-test. On evaluating the error patterns, distortion was maximum followed by substitutions. These errors were maximum in edentulous state and decreased subsequently, with the least errors in customized rugae dentures. A statistically significant positive correlation (p&lt;0.0001) was found.</p><p><strong>Conclusions: </strong>Apart from retention, stability and support, equal amount of emphasis has to be laid down on phonetical aspects to improve the overall psychological well-being and social upliftment for patients. The improvement in verbal proficiency for completely edentulous patients can be minimized considerably by customizing the palatal portions.</p>

Background: 3D printed complete dentures fabrication with computer-aided designing and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) techniques is becoming popular nowadays. However, studies that analyzed the occlusal forces distribution using recent digital methods as T-scan III and further evaluated the dentures effect on patient`s life quality were lacking. Objectives: Evaluation of the occlusal forces distribution using T-scan III, and evaluation of the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) using Oral Health Impact Profile for Edentulous Patients (OHIP-EDEN) questionnaire for 3D printed complete dentures and comparing it with conventional denture fabrication techniques. Methods: Twenty completely edentulous patients were selected and divided randomly into two equal groups according to manufacturing technique group I (patients who received conventional complete dentures), and group II (patients who received 3D printed complete dentures). For all patients, occlusal force analysis (percentage of applied occlusal force on both sides) was performed using the T-Scan III (digital occlusal analysis system). Also, OHRQoL was assessed using (OHIP-EDENT) questionnaire. Results: In the digital occlusal analysis, comparison between right and left sides regarding occlusal forces distribution revealed a significant difference in group I (conventional denture), while in group II (3D printed denture), it revealed an insignificant difference. Regarding, OHIP-EDENT patients in group I (conventional denture) revealed higher scores than group II (3D printed dentures). Also, the correlation between occlusal forces & (OHIP-EDENT) scores revealed a strong negative significant correlation. Conclusions: The 3D printed complete dentures fabricated using CAD/CAM technology proved to be more superior over conventional methods in terms of digital occlusal force analysis and Oral Health Impact Profile for Edentulous Patients (OHIP-EDENT). However, further studies are required on more patients to decide the exact superiority of one technique over the other after long-term follow-up periods.

Complete denture wearers often find it difficult to accept a new denture. Personality traits are among the factors that possibly affect patient satisfaction with a complete denture. Our aim was to investigate the influence of patients’ personality on satisfaction with their present denture and after an increase in the occlusal vertical dimension (OVD). Sixty edentulous patients with complete dentures (22 men and 38 women, mean age 66 years, and range 50–75 years) participated in the study. The age of their complete dentures ranged from 5 to 16 years. Patients’ personalities were evaluated using the Arabic version of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire. Their satisfaction with their dentures before and after restoration of the OVD and relining of the mandibular denture was evaluated using two questionnaires (I and II), Patients with a high score of neuroticism were less satisfied with their original dentures and after relining and an increase of OVD compared with patients with an average score in that trait. The personality trait of psychoticism was significant to patients’ acceptance of an increase in OVD; that is, patients with a high score were less satisfied with their dentures after increase of OVD than patients with an average score. It is concluded that personality traits affect patients’ acceptance of their complete dentures.

Background/Aim. Difficulties in the acceptance of dentures are multifactorial including psychosocial ones. It is questionable whether the patients? satisfaction depends only on the complete denture therapy characteristics. The aim of the study was to evaluated patients? expectation and satisfaction with complete dentures before and after the treatment concerning phonetics, chewing, comfort of use and aesthetics. Methods. Forty complete edentulous patients rated their expectation before and satisfaction after the treatment based on a questionnaire scores. Patient-related variables regarding age, gender and previous experience (whether worn complete denture or not) were also recorded. Results. Patients? rating for expectations were higher than the satisfaction after treatment regarding phonetics, chewing, comfort of use and aesthetics. A negative significant correlation was shown between the items before and after the treatment rating for phonetics, chewing, comfort of use and aesthetics. No statistical correlation was found between all the evaluated aspects? (i.e. phonetics, chewing, comfort of use and aesthetics) of expectation and satisfaction, and age, gender, and previous experience except a weak negative correlation noticed between age and comfort of denture use. Conclusion. Patients? expectations ratings significantly exceeded their satisfactions. Expectations and satisfaction ratings were irrespective of gender and patients previous experience.

BACKGROUND Temporo-mandibular disorder (TMD) is a collective term for conditions that involve pain and/or dysfunction of the TMJ and the related structures. Tooth loss is a major cause of developing TMD. The prevalence of signs and symptoms of TMD in completely edentulous patients has been reported to be as high as in dentulous patients. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effect of complete dentures on signs and symptoms of temporomandibular disorders with Craniomandibular Index in completely edentulous patients. METHODS A prospective interventional study will be conducted for two year. The subjects, who are non-denture wearer and completely edentulous for a post-extraction period of 6 months to 5 years without any complaint of TMD will be screened for signs and symptoms of TMD with the help of anamnestic component of the Helkimos Index. 110, such patients with mild to severe signs and symptoms of TMD will be involved in the study as study participants after informed consent. They will be grouped into Group A (subjects with mild symptoms, n=55) and Group B (subjects with severe symptoms, n=55). The craniomandibular index will be used to score the intensity of signs and symptoms of TMD in these subjects before starting the clinical steps in fabrication of complete denture and three months after the denture insertion. RESULTS Descriptive and analytical statistics will be done. SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) Version 20.1 will be used as statistical software. The statistical significance between the two groups before and after three months will be evaluated at P<.05. CONCLUSIONS We expect improvement or drop in the severity of the signs and symptoms of TMD in completely edentulous subjects after intervention with complete dentures. If this Hypothesis fails, then the prevalences of TMD in completely edentulous patients should be correlated with other factors such as anatomic or pathologic changes in TMJ and not with the loss of teeth or vertical dimensions.
