This paper presents a development of special diamond detector for time dependent neutron flux measurements in a nuclear reactor. Neutron flux changes during SCRAM are difficult to measure by existing detector technologies. Therefore, a new detector is developed. This new type diamond based detector should allow to perform fast measurements of neutron flux during SCRAM with high pulse count rate. The diamond detector design and signal processing are described in this paper including the pulse shape discrimination method. In addition to theoretical detector study, three detector was manufactured at CEA Saclay. Experience gathered during manufacturing is described as well.

Nuclear heating reactor is a new type of power plant that uses nuclear energy as heat source. Low temperature nuclear heating reactor should be the forerunner and main force for developing nuclear heating plant in China. Due to the lower water temperature required by the heating system, this dedicated, non-power generating nuclear reactor works at low temperatures and pressures with inherent safety features. The design, construction and operation of the nuclear heating reactors in various countries in the world were reviewed in this paper, and China’s new demonstration nuclear heating project and NHR-200 low-temperature heating reactor which would be used was discussed in the paper. We put forward the developing route and suggestion for the development of low-temperature heating reactor in China.

Studies of the relative Light output and optical transmission of organic composite scintillators with different grain sizes were performed. The research results showed that for samples with grains 0.06…0.3 mm in size, in contrast to the samples with larger grains, the relative light output and optical transmission are lower.
