This study describes a novel process to drill small holes in brittle materials such as glass, silicon and ceramic using a self-elastic polycrystalline diamond (PCD) drilling tool. In order to improve the surface roughness and reduce crack of the small holes, a new type of self-elastic PCD drilling tool equipped with vibration absorbing materials inside the housing was developed to fabricate small holes in glass in this study. The self-elastic PCD drilling tools could absorb the mechanical force by the vibration absorbing materials while the PCD tool penetrates into the small holes. Compared to conventional PCD drilling tools, the experimental results show that high-quality small holes drilled in glass can be achieved with cracking as small as 0.02mm on the outlet surface using the self-elastic PCD drilling tool.

This chapter argues that cosmopolitanism as a framework for global gender justice fails to capture the rich diversity and the power differences among women. It evaluates two prominent cosmopolitan positions, individualist cosmopolitanism and institutional cosmopolitanism. Individualist cosmopolitanism relies on an abstract and atomistic notion of the self. Abstracting from social and cultural context diminishes the significance of identity, and holding a strongly individualist notion of the self obscures the power relationships that undergird structural inequality. Institutional cosmopolitanism accounts for our interconnections through unequal global economic and political relationships, but it leaves aside issues of gender and culture. The chapter draws on the work of Rabindranath Tagore to construct a new type of cosmopolitanism, relational cosmopolitanism, that recognizes our interdependence, appreciates diversity, and criticizes power relationships. Supplemented by feminist ideas of world traveling and difference as a creative resource, relational cosmopolitanism is a promising framework for feminists interested in global gender justice.

In the paper two types of numerical models of the self-excited acoustical system are presented. This new type of auto-oscillating system is used for stress change measurement in constructions and rock masses. The essence of the self-excited acoustical system is to use a vibration emitter and vibration receiver placed at a distance, which are coupled with a proper power amplifier, and which are operating in a closed loop with a positive feedback. This causes the excitation of the system. The change of the velocity of wave propagation, which is associated with the change of the resonance frequency in the system is caused by the deformation of the examined material. Stress changes manifest themselves in small but detectable variations of frequency. The first of the presented models was created on the basis of estimating the model parameters by identification of the sensor–conditioner–amplifier–emitter system. The second mathematical model was delivered from the force–charge equation of the piezoelectric transducers: the sensor and the emitter. The model of the loaded beam, which determined the response of any beam point to the force applied to any other beam point is also presented.

To overcome the shortcomings of assembly lightweight steel structure residential system in our country. A new type of lightweight energy-saving composite wall is proposed, which is composed by light-gauge shaped steel and thin panel. In order to investigate the load-bearing behaviour and failure mode of the composite wall, 4 wall specimens in full ratio were designed and manufactured. The experiment study is carried out under lateral and vertical loads. The results show that the self-drilling screw integrate the light-gauge shaped steel and thin panel to bear loads. The decrease of self-drilling screw spacing can effectively enhance the load-bearing capacity of the composite wall, and the best choice of the self-drilling screw pitch is 150mm. The composite wall has good bearing and deformation capacity, and it is suitable for applying to light weight steel residential system in our country.

This paper investigates in detail the new vibrating lift made by utilizing the principle of the self-synchronization of mechanical vibrators. In a general way products ride up inclined way of the spiral trough of a vibrating lift, propelled by forces generated by two unbalanced rotors connected by the gear and driven by a motor, which are mounted on top of the structure in a horizontal position. This machine is a new type of vibrating lift. The axes of two unbalanced rotors are nonparallel and each driven by two asynchronous motors. One motor is positioned on the right hand side and the other is situated on the left hand side of the structure in a vertical position. In spite of the absence of any connection between two rotors, they rotate at the same speed and have the definite phase angle between them as the result of the phenomena of the self-synchronization under a certain condition. This phenomenon is also called entrainment. Accordingly, by the linear vibration in the direction of the axis of the structure and rotational vibration about the axis of the structure by two unbalanced rotors, products ride up inclined way of the spiral trough.

To meet the vibration control needs working in varied vibration conditions, a new type of semi-active controllable friction was developed in this study, called Self-feedback-friction Damper, with the control of the feedback signal of vibration amplitude. Through calculation and analysis of its work capacity, the parameters of the Self-feedback-friction Damper are determined. The research shows the damping force of new friction damper changes to adjust the varied displacement, to obtain a better damping effect, controlled by the signals of the vibration amplitude.

The article dwells upon the issue of a subject intrinsic to the art of the 70s and 80s of the 20th century, it elicits the reasons determining the problematization of “the Self” category inherent in the aesthetic program of the Moscow Conceptualism, preeminently with regards to the works of Dmitry Prigov. “The crisis of the language describing ‘the Self’” has been considered as discrediting the dominant discursive models, disabling the possibility of individual expressing. Within the first part of the article we problematize “the Self” category inherent in the aesthetic program of the Moscow Conceptualism, examine the dominant discursive models and denote the crisis of the language describing “the Self.” The second part is devoted to the issue of “the personal consciousness” coming into being within the aesthetic program of Moscow Conceptualism. The Self is considered as a “category of categories” in dichotomy between “the collective” and “individual” ones. Finally, the third part represents the analysis of a subject of the aesthetic activity. “An imaginary personality” intrinsic to the works of Dmitry Prigov is considered as a subject of “a gnoseological game.”

A single nuclear gene can be translated into a dual localized protein that distributes between the cytosol and mitochondria. Accumulating evidences show that mitoproteomes contain lots of these dual localized proteins termed echoforms. Unraveling the existence of mitochondrial echoforms using current GFP (Green Fluorescent Protein) fusion microscopy approaches is extremely difficult because the GFP signal of the cytosolic echoform will almost inevitably mask that of the mitochondrial echoform. We therefore engineered a yeast strain expressing a new type of Split-GFP that we termed Bi-Genomic Mitochondrial-Split-GFP (BiG Mito-Split-GFP). Because one moiety of the GFP is translated from the mitochondrial machinery while the other is fused to the nuclear-encoded protein of interest translated in the cytosol, the self-reassembly of this Bi-Genomic-encoded Split-GFP is confined to mitochondria. We could authenticate the mitochondrial importability of any protein or echoform from yeast, but also from other organisms such as the human Argonaute 2 mitochondrial echoform.
