Abstract Undoped ZnO thin films have been prepared on glass substrates at different substrate temperatures by spray pyrolysis method. The effect of temperature on the structural, morphological and optical properties of n-type ZnO films was studied. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed that the ZnO thin films were polycrystalline with wurtzite structure. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements showed that the surface morphology of the films changed with temperature. The studies demonstrated that the ZnO film had a transmission of about 85 % and energy gap of 3.28 eV at 450 °C. The RBS measurements revealed that ZnO layers with a thickness up to 200 nm had a good stoichiometry.

Zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films were deposited on the glass substrates using Zinc acetate dehydrate solution through spray pyrolysis method. The films were obtained by spraying 0.05M concentrated solution at a rate of 0.5ml for 10 min and were deposited at different substrate temperatures ranging from 473K to 673K. A comprehensive study was carried out to realize the effect of substrate temperatures and subsequent annealing on optical properties of the ZnO thin films. It was observed that the band gap energy decreases with increases the substrate temperature and annealing. Optical constants such as the refractive indexnand extinction coefficientkwere determined from transmittance spectrum in the ultravioletvisible (UVVIS) regions by Swanepoel envelope method and crystallinity was confirmed by Urbach tail and atomic force microscope images.

ABSTRACTHighly transparent and conducting Fluorine doped zinc oxide thin films were deposited using spray pyrolysis method on glass substrates held at 450 °C. The X-ray diffraction study revealed that as the dopant concentration increases in ZnO films, the intensity of the preferential orientation of (002) reflection decreased and (101) was found to increase up to 5 at. % F. The crystallite size was varied from 40 to 50 nm with dopant concentration. The optical band gap of the un-doped films was 3.30 eV and it increased to 3.34 eV for 3 at. % F. The refractive index of the films was increased from 2.05 to 2.18 with the increase of dopant concentration from 0 to 5 at. %. The scanning electron microscopy results depicted that the microstructure of ZnO: F films highly influenced by the fluorine doping. After annealing the films in hydrogen atmosphere, the resistivity of the films decreased as increase the dopant concentration and it is 4×10−3 Ω cm for 3at. % F beyond which it increased. The mobility of the charge carriers was 14 cm2/ V sec and the carrier concentration was 7.8×1019 cm3 obtained for the films doped with 3 at. % of fluorine concentration in the starting solution.

This research included the preparation of (ZnO) thin films by CBD technique for the deposition of chemical bath thickness (150 ± 20nm). X-ray diffraction was analyzed and showed that the films crystallize in a polycrystalline hexagonal structure, with a preferred direction along the level (100). Increased volume of calculated crystals for deposited films was found by increasing molar concentration. The surface morphology of films was studied by SEM, and the surface morphology of ZnO films is a heterogeneous distribution. The optical properties of all deposited ZnO films contained a spectral permeability and absorption spectrum in the wavelength range (300-1100nm), and the transmittance decreased with increasing molar concentration, it was found that the value of the light energy gap (Eg) increases with increasing molecular concentration band gap between 3.1 and 3.2 eV.

Zinc Oxide (ZnO) thin films of different thickness were preparedon ultrasonically cleaned corning glass substrate, by pulsed laserdeposition technique (PLD) at room temperature. Since mostapplication of ZnO thin film are certainly related to its opticalproperties, so the optical properties of ZnO thin film in thewavelength range (300-1100) nm were studied, it was observed thatall ZnO films have high transmittance (˃ 80 %) in the wavelengthregion (400-1100) nm and it increase as the film thickness increase, using the optical transmittance to calculate optical energy gap (Egopt)show that (Egopt) of a direct allowed transition and its value nearlyconstant (~ 3.2 eV) for all film thickness (150, 180, 210, and 240)nm, so Zn0 thin films were used as a transparent conducting oxide(TCO) in various optoelectronic application such as a window in athin film solar cells.

In this work, SnO2 and (SnO2)1-x(ZnO)x composite thin films with different ZnO atomic ratios (x=0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) were prepared by pulsed laser deposition technique on clean glass substrates at room temperature without any treatment. The deposited thin films were characterized by x-ray diffraction atomic force microscope  and UV-visible spectrophotometer to study the effect of the ZnO atomic ratio on their structural, morphological and optical properties. It was found that the crystallinety and the crystalline size vary according to ZnO atomic ratio. The surface appeared as longitudinal structures which was convert to spherical shapes with increasing ZnO atomic ratio. The optical transmission and energy gap increased with increasing ZnO atomic ratio.

Flaky ZnO thin films were electrodeposited from an aqueous solution of zinc nitrate (Zn (NO3)2) as electrolyte on ITO glass substrate by cathodic reduction method The effect of electrolyte concentration on the structure, morphology and optical properties of ZnO thin films were studied by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and UV-Vis spectrometer. The results show that the ZnO films are of hexagonal wurtzite structure; When the concentration of Zn (NO3)2 solution is 0.24 M, the sparse flaky ZnO thin films were prepared and the thickness and length of ZnO flaky are about 50 nm and 1~3 μm, respectively; When the electrolyte concentration is 0.16 M, hexagonal and triangular structures are observed and some lathy and conical ZnO structure start to appear; When the concentration of Zn (NO3)2 solution drops to 0.08 M, the matrix of films is still flaky ZnO, but porous structures among the flaky structures appear and the size of conical ZnO has changed, whose bottom diameter reaches 1~3 μm and length is 2~4 μm; UV-Vis absorption test results indicate the absorption peak and the bandgap of the prepared ZnO thin films are about 350 nm and 3.28 eV, respectively.

In this work, the effect of substrate temperature on structural and optical properties of V2O5 thin films has been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD); SEM and transmission. The films mince has been prepared by Reactive Chemical Spraying technology in Liquid Phase (RCSLP) on glass substrates preheated at (350, 400, 450 and 500 °C). The X-ray diffraction analysis confirms that all layers are polycrystalline, and the preferred orientation of V2O5 is the (001) plane. The morphology of V2O5 thin films are porous nature and their particle’s shape is three-dimensional. The transmittance and absorbance of thin film were measured from which the optical constants (Energy gap, Refractive index, Absorption coefficient, Extinction coefficient and Optical dielectric constant) were determined.

ZnO thin films on glass substrates have been successfully fabricated by sol-gel method for various aging time and annealing temperature. X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns showed the crystallites at (100), (002) and (101) plane of hexagonal wurtzite structure. Atomic force microscope (AFM) images were used to investigate the surface morphology. The transmittance, energy gap, Urbach energy and photoluminescence (PL) of samples were investigated to explore the effects of annealing temperature on optical properties of ZnO thin films under different sol aging time. The transmittance spectra of thin films aged for 24 hours and 48 hours revealed the enhanced transmittance in visible region as rising annealing temperature, also, the optical band gap of the samples increased and Urbach energy decreased. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of samples aged for 24 hours and 48 hours were studied and found the increased ultraviolet emission at ~387 nm, and various decreased visible emissions with rising annealing temperature. Nevertheless, the excessive sol aging time for 72 hours deteriorated the optical characteristics of thin films, resulting in that transmittance, energy gap and ultraviolet emission declined, and visible emissions increased with rising annealing temperature. The optical performances of the ZnO films aged for different time have no the same dependence of annealing temperature.
