The aim of the paper is the theoretical anchoring of the autism spectrum disorder focusing mainly on the Asperger syndrome, as well as the classification of disorders according to the International Statistical Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-V). The paper contains an overview of the legal regulations related to the possible modifications of the common part of the graduation exam. The research part is based on qualitative methodology, it includes a case study. Based on an intentional selection (age and diagnosis), a student with Asperger syndrome was chosen for the case study, who applied at the educational support center for the modification of the graduation exam conditions. Regarding the data collection, the research methods included a semi-structured interview with the legal representatives (with the consent of the student of age), and a class teacher, and the study of the documents kept in the educational support center. The research part contains information on the personal and schooling history, as well as on the symptoms reflecting the diagnostic dyad. The conclusion offers an overview of the specific support measures provided to the student for the common part of the national graduation exam. The aim of the study is to explore whether the symptoms of the Asperger syndrome diagnosis reflected in the deficiencies at school may be fully compensated through the modification of the graduation exam conditions.

Recently, the American Psychiatric Association eliminated Asperger Syndrome (AS) and introduced the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) diagnostic framework. This change in nosology socially implicates people who self-identify with and derive personal meaning from their AS diagnosis. The current study explored the opinions of adults with AS regarding their identity related to the diagnostic terminology of ASD. Twelve adults with AS completed a semi-structured interview that was transcribed and analyzed qualitatively using Thematic Analysis. The analysis revealed six themes: (a) Derived Meaning, (b) Knowledge and Understanding, (c) Perceptions and Labels, (d) Social Identity, (e) Opinions and Reactions to ASD, and (f) Barriers to Funding and Service Provision. Many participants socially identified and self-categorized as part of the AS community because their challenges matched those described by the DSM-IV. Importantly, many participants described the removal of AS as a threat to their identity, social status, and access to supports. Implications are discussed.

Purpose This study aims to reframe the common concept of post-disaster reconstruction “building back better”, especially in the context of post-disaster housing design. Design/methodology/approach An Aceh post-tsunami housing reconstruction project is used as a case study with qualitative methodology through in-depth interviews of selected respondents. Findings The study findings have shown that the term “building back better” is not a familiar term for housing recipients. Whichever different personal background post-disaster survivors come from, whether they are housewife, civil servant, fisherman, university student, businessman or a professional, none have ever heard this phrase. All found it hard to understand the term. This study argues that the “building back better” concept is good in policy but not working in practice. As a result, housing recipients not only were dissatisfied with their new houses but also found that the new housing configurations profoundly altered their traditional way of life. In light of these findings, the paper argues that the concept of “building back better” needs to be reframed to take account of the cultural individual and communal needs and wants of post-disaster survivors. Research limitations/implications This study discusses only one aspect of post-disaster reconstruction that is the design of housing reconstruction. Practical implications Results from this study provide a practical contribution for reconstruction actors especially designers, architects and planners. It helps them to reconsider the common concepts they have used for post-disaster reconstruction processes particularly in designing housing reconstruction projects. Originality/value This study focuses on the question of how tsunami survivors in Aceh reacted to the design of their new post-tsunami houses and what they had done themselves to make their homes a better and nicer place to live within their own cultural needs. This study also sought to understand what motivated the opinions the respondents had about the design of housing reconstruction after the tsunami in Aceh generally. In addition, the study investigated whether survivors knew the phrase and the credo of “building back better” in a post-disaster context.

Autyzm jest pojęciem wieloznacznym, nieostrym. W nomenklaturze medycznej kilkakrotnie już zmieniał się jego zakres semantyczny. W artykule przedstawiono sposoby występowania tego pojęcia w klasyfikacjach międzynarodowych DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) i ICD (International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems). Cechą wspólną tych definicji jest redukcjonistyczne podejście do pacjenta (jednostki zredukowanej do objawów chorobowych) i myślenie w kategoriach choroby bądź zaburzenia (ASD – Autism Spectrum Disorder).

Since the implementation of 'Educational Blueprint 2013-2025' and 'Zero Reject Policy' in Malaysia, there are increasingly efforts from the Malaysian Ministry of Education to include students with Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD) into regular mainstream education. A case study investigation was conducted with a mother with two children with different severity levels of ASD. In a semi-structured interview, the mother described her experiences and aspirations of education arrangements for both her children. Through the eyes of a mother, we find a strong belief that children with ASD could learn like others when given adequate opportunities and learning aids. This unique case study offers an archetypical representation of issues and challenges faced by parents of children with ASD in Malaysia, in advocating for inclusive education for their children.

This research based on social, health and especially educational reality, involves us professionally in view of the fact that the majority of professional people, especially teachers, are not familiar with autism spectrum disorder, specifically with Asperger's Syndrome. and they may come to think that a child with an autistic ability behaves in a different way, and they find it difficult to interact with other classmates, therefore this may be difficult to understand conventional social rules and may seem of little importance for society, people with Asperger Syndrome (SA), in English Asperger syndrome (AS), have an average IQ and are likely to have teaching and learning problems like those who do not, however, have their learning needs They may be different from those of other children. Asperger's syndrome is a type of autism. Autism affects the way in which a person interprets the language, communicates and socializes. Until 2013, this syndrome used to be considered a condition in itself, with its own diagnosis. From that moment on, the guide used by doctors, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, commonly known as DSM-5, changed the classification of Asperger's syndrome.

Abstract. Sports Services are responsible for managing all tasks related to sport activities within the universities, with the aim of satisfying students’ needs. For this reason, elite athletes should receive grants that allow them to combine their academic assignments with sports trainings. This research intends to understand the opinion of athletes who study in national higher education institutions and are receive grants from the Superior Counsel of Sports, an Autonomous Community, or a program from the Olympic Sports Association. A qualitative methodology has been used, based on case study, and a structured interview has been designed. This instrument is composed of 19 open questions, grouped into three blocks. The interview has been developed on a sample of 28 subjects. Elite athletes enroll in universities based on residence and find inconveniences between academic and sport calendar. Universities do not offer a same study aids program. However, they usually offer several of these grants: academic flexibility, tutoring, free choice credits, financial aid, and free use of sports facilities. The university sport model is oriented towards participation and interviewees consider competitions, where they are usually accompanied by university coaches, as relevant as they provide them with performance grants. In general, sport planning is coordinated by their clubs or by the national federations under which they are training, although they would like to do it in university facilities.

AbstractUrban regeneration emerged during the 1990s as a policy area aimed at addressing urban decay through a novel approach to overcoming the limitations rooted in physical sectoral transformation. From that point on, a number of integrating mechanisms and relevant topics have emerged in this field, aimed at resolving current urban problems. At this juncture, when climate change has now been recognized as one of the most pressing urban challenges, urban regeneration needs to integrate adaptation to climate change as a crucial basis for action toward resilient urban transformation. This study springs from the recognition of the relevance of this policy approach, the analysis of which is undertaken focusing on three European cities – Copenhagen, Vienna, and Madrid – to understand whether and how the three municipalities are currently integrating adaptation to climate change within their urban regeneration programs. This objective is addressed through a mixed qualitative methodology that uses the case study approach to analyze the policy process, drivers, and obstacles that are fostering or limiting that vision in each local context. The research responds to the questions posed, showing the transformative capacity of integrating adaptation explicitly in the “common” regeneration practice of municipalities, the relevance of the development of local capacity as a crucial element for that, and other main factors that enable cities to advance or keep rooted in “traditional practices.”

Abstract:

In the last years, small, medium and big companies from Costa Rica have intensified their interest in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Given the sustainability and survival growing urgency in modern society, commercial activity assumes responsible and integral actions on the country development. The aim of this article is to identify the driving factors of CSR, which are, specifically, consumers, suppliers, community, environment, competitiveness and financing, to formulate management models and measurement indicators that could be used to influence and ease the responsible task of a company. For this purpose, we perform a case study within 16 hotel enterprises in La Fortuna de San Carlos, applying a qualitative methodology by semi-structured interview means. Our results indicate that the main driving factor of CSR is the consumers; in second place, the environment, while we found that suppliers and community don’t have relevant effect as a driving factor of CSR. Adults on the autism spectrum, despite having received intervention throughout their childhood and adolescence, continue to experience challenges with everyday social interactions, forming and maintaining relationships, and social abilities needed in work settings. This article presents a case example of a 22-year-old adult with Asperger syndrome, and highlights the issues in providing intervention for highly able young adults on the autism spectrum. A unique feature of this report is the inclusion of the client's own insights into his experiences, perspectives, and challenges with the intervention. The approaches used to address his social communication and organizational needs are outlined, and clinical implications discussed.
