<p><strong>Abstract:</strong> This study aims to describe the readability level of reading texts in <em>ESPS: English</em> for the 11<sup>th</sup> grade students. The measurement tools were Coh-Metrix RDL2, Miyazaki EFL Reading Index and teachers’ professional judgment. The formula were effective in measuring the texts readability by calculating the number of words, letters, and sentences in the text. The Score of Coh-Metrix RDL2 showed that the reading texts was easier for reading level of 11<sup>th</sup> graders. MEFLRI claimed that reading texts in <em>ESPS</em> textbook are match for reading level of 11<sup>th</sup> graders. Teachers’ judgment claimed, the texts were suitable for eleventh grade students.</p><strong>Abstrak:<em> </em></strong>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan tingkat keterbacaan 19 teks bacaan dalam <em>ESPS: English</em> untuk siswa kelas 11. Tiga alat ukur digunakan untuk mengukur tingkat keterbacaan yakni Coh-Metrix RDL2 dan Miyazaki EFL Reading Index, dan penilaian guru. Kedua formula terbukti efektif dalam mengukur keterbacaan teks dengan menghitung total huruf, kata, dan kalimat dalam teks. Coh-Metrix menunjukkan bahwa teks bacaan lebih mudah dipahami oleh siswa pada kelas 11, sedangkan MEFLRI menunjukkan bahwa teks bacaan sangat cocok diberikan pada kelas 11. Penilaian guru menyatakan teks bacaan sesuai untuk siswa kelas 11.

This study is entitled Optimizing the Five Aspects of Child Development Through the Advanced Development of the Educational Instrument of Snakes and Ladders which is a follow-up study in the previous year (multi years). The research method used is Research and Development (R&D), which is a research method used to produce certain products and test the effectiveness of these products (Sugiyono, 2012). Validation of measurement tools and modules is done in two ways, namely: Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and module validation (content validity) is done by Professional Judgment. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the preparation of the Ladder Snake APE can be said to be valid to stimulate five aspects of child development with the results of 40% validator stating that the APE is suitable for stimulating five aspects of child development, and 60% states that the APE is very suitable for stimulating the five aspects of child development. While for the preparation of the APE Snake Ladder Module, it can also be said to be valid with the results of the 67% assessment of the validator stating that the module is very suitable and 33% of the validator stating that the module is appropriate. The output produced in this study is in the form of APE Snakes and Ladders products to stimulate five aspects of child development, the use of APE modules, and the National Journal of ISSN.

Purpose The purpose of this study was to examine the readability level of the Spanish versions of several audiology- and otolaryngology-related patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and include a readability analysis of 2 translation approaches when available—the published version and a “functionalist” version—using a team-based collaborative approach including community members. Method Readability levels were calculated using the Fry Graph adapted for Spanish, as well as the Fernandez-Huerta and the Spaulding formulae for several commonly used audiology- and otolaryngology-related PROMs. Results Readability calculations agreed with previous studies analyzing audiology-related PROMs in English and demonstrated many Spanish-language PROMs were beyond the 5th grade reading level suggested for health-related materials written for the average population. In addition, the functionalist versions of the PROMs yielded lower grade-level (improved) readability levels than the published versions. Conclusion Our results suggest many of the Spanish-language PROMs evaluated here are beyond the recommended readability levels and may be influenced by the approach to translation. Moreover, improved readability may be possible using a functionalist approach to translation. Future analysis of the suitability of outcome measures and the quality of their translations should move beyond readability and include an evaluation of the individual's comprehension of the written text.

This study attempts to investigate the readability level of the text used in the Junior High School. Taking the material from those read in the two prominent schools; public and private school. Being measured by the given formula and then followed by the given test to students, this study reveals that the readability level of four reading texts as the source of the data in this study indicates various level. It is only one out of four texts that was appropriate for 9th grade students. This affects the students’ purpose of reading competencies of the students in private Junior school who have tendency toward unassisted reading than the students in the public school. It implies the number of students who need the instruction or need assisted in reading. The students within this school demand more instruction than those in private school. The similar condition shown in the students who categorized in the frustration level. As the consequences, this circumstance requires teacher’s serious intervention among others by cautiously doing text selection and adjusting teaching strategy to students’ reading level competency.

This study was carried out to find out the readability level of the reading texts in English Zone textbook by using Flesch Reading Ease Formula and Cloze Test at the tenth-grade students of SMA N 2 Bandar. The population of this research was the tenth-grade students of SMA N 2 Bandar. The textbook consists of 181 pages with 29 reading texts in it. The researcher took 5 reading texts from the English textbook entitled English Zone published by Penerbit Erlangga and the tenth-grade students of 30 students as the sample. The method used in this study was descriptive analysis using quantitative data. The instruments of the research were Flesch Reading Ease Formula and Cloze Test. The data were analyzed using Flesch Reading Ease Formula which is focused on the average number of the syllables per words. The result of the analysis by using Flesch Reading Ease Formula is grouped into three levels which are Very Easy, Easy, and Fairly Easy. The average readability score for all texts is 82.6 which implies that the texts are in Fairly Easy Level. The result of the analysis by using Cloze Test, the average readability score of the five texts is 51.20% (Independent Level), the texts are predicted to be of appropriate difficulty. Thus, it could be concluded that the reading texts were in the English Zone textbook were not suitable to be used by the students at the tenth-grade students of SMA N 2 Bandar.

Predicting readability level of reading texts can help the teachers to match the texts with student’s grade. The appropriate reading text is expected to ease the students in comprehending the material. This research focused on the readability level of English reading material found in English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris for first grade of Senior High School Published by Curriculum and Books Center, Research and Development Agency, Ministry of Education and Culture. This study attempts to find out whether the reading materials are appropriate or not in terms of readability level for the target students. This research used descriptive quantitative design. The object of the research is English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris for First Grade of Senior High School published by Curriculum 2013. The textbook consists fifteen chapters which contained kinds of reading materials such as dialogue and reading texts. The researcher only focuses on analyzing the reading materials. There are three kinds of genre found in this book, they are descriptive, recount and narrative. The data were collected by using document analysis. In calculating readability level, the researcher employed the Flesch Reading Ease (FRE) formula. The results of the study showed that there were 9 reading texts in the Bahasa Inggris textbook. From those 9 texts found that there were 3 descriptive texts, 4 recount texts, and 2 narrative texts. According to the analysis using Flesch Reading Ease (FRE) formula, the researcher found that there were 3 texts in Fairly Easy level, 3 texts in Fairly Difficult level, and 3 texts in Difficult level. In average, the texts are in Fairly Difficult level (57,3). Based on the theory of Flesch Reading Ease (FRE) formula, it is found that the texts are in the appropriate level for tenth grade students.Keyword: Readability level, Reading Material, Textbook.

Abstract. The Readability of the Indonesian Textbook Discourse "Ekspresi Diri dan Akademik" Second Edition Using Cloze Test Methode On Grade X SMAN 1 Makassar. This research aimed to describe the readability of discourse in the Indonesian textbook "Ekspresi Diri dan Akademik" Second Edition on grade X SMAN 1 Makassar. The method used in this research is a quantitative survey methods that describe the readability level of the Indonesia textbook "Ekspresi Diri dan Akademik" Second Edition on grade X at SMAN 1 Makassar. The population of this research was all students of grade X at SMAN 1 Makassar. Sampling on this population was selected by using cluster random sampling. The sample in this research there were two classes, X MIA 5 and X IIS 3. Data collection techniques in this research is the cloze test. Data obtained using the formula cloze test. The results showed that out of the eight tested discourse to the students there are six discourse that is at the readability level independent/easy. There is a discourse belonging to the category of reading level instructional/medium. Average readability level was 68% overall discourse in the category reading level independent/easy, indicating that the level of discourse is very high readability. Results like that makes the discourse in the Indonesian Textbooks "Ekspresi Diri dan Akademik" Second Edition on grade X published by the Ministry of Education and Culture is not good enough to be used as teaching materials.

This research deals with the readability level of reading texts and the eighth gradestudents of junior high school. The objective of this research is to find out thereadability level of reading texts in English for junior high school textbook. Theresearcher used qualitative method in which the researcher describes thereadability level of reading texts in the textbook by using Gunning Fog IndexFormula. The text that will be analyze are 16 reading texts which are consists ofthree genres, 4 descriptive texts, 4 recount texts, and 8 narrative texts. They arethe whole reading texts in the English for junior high school textbook, publishedby Mediatama. Based on the analysis by using Gunning Fog Index Formula, fromtotal number 16 reading texts, 12 reading texts are in the very easy level, 1 text isin the standard level, and 3 texts are in the difficult level. In average, the texts arein the very easy level with score 7.3. It’s found based on the Gunning’s theory. Itis concluded that reading texts in English for junior high school textbook are notin the appropriate level for the eighth grade students of junior high school in SMPNegeri 3 Stabat.

BACKGROUND Education at the time of diagnosis or at discharge after an index illness is a vital component of improving outcomes in congestive heart failure (CHF). About 90 million Americans have limited health literacy and have a readability level at or below a 5th-grade level, which could affect their understanding of education provided at the time of diagnosis or discharge from hospital. OBJECTIVE The aim of this paper was to assess the suitability and readability level of a mobile phone app, the CHF Info App. METHODS A descriptive design was used to assess the reading level and suitability of patient educational materials included in the CHF Info App. The suitability assessment of patient educational materials included in the CHF Info App was independently assessed by two of the authors using the 26-item Suitability Assessment of Materials (SAM) tool. The reading grade level for each of the 10 CHF educational modules included in the CHF Info App was assessed using the comprehensive online Text Readability Consensus Calculator based on the seven most-common readability formulas: the Flesch Reading Ease Formula, the Gunning Fog Index, the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Formula, the Coleman-Liau Index, the Simplified Measure of Gobbledygook Index, the Automated Readability Index, and the Linsear Write Formula. The reading level included the text-scale score, the ease-of-reading score, and the corresponding grade level. RESULTS The educational materials included in the CHF Info App ranged from a 5th-grade to an 8th-grade reading level, with a mean of a 6th-grade level, which is recommended by the American Medical Association. The SAM tool result demonstrated adequate-to-superior levels in all four components assessed, including content, appearance, visuals, and layout and design, with a total score of 77%, indicating superior suitability. CONCLUSIONS The authors conclude that the CHF Info App will be suitable and meet the recommended health literacy level for American adult learners. Further testing of the CHF Info App in a longitudinal study is warranted to determine improvement in CHF knowledge.

Objective: The present study identifies and analyzes online patient resources for cleft lip with or without cleft palate to survey the online educational landscape relative to the recommended difficulty set by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and American Medical Association (AMA). Methods: An internet search of “cleft palate,” “cleft lip,” and 12 similar inputs were entered into a search engine. The first 50 links for each search term were identified, collected, and reviewed individually for relevance and accessibility. The content of the websites was analyzed with Readability Studio Version 2019.1. The following readability metrics were utilized in this study: (1) Coleman-Liau (grade levels), (2) New Dale-Chall, (3) Flesch-Kincaid, (4) Flesch Reading Ease, (5) FORCAST, (6) Fry, (7) Gunning Fog, (8) New Fog Count, (9) Raygor Readability Estimate, and (10) Simple Measure of Gobbledygook. Results: In no combination of search terms did any collection of links provide information within the mid-seventh grade levels recommended by the NIH. The analysis of 143 unique websites in the “Cleft Palate” group showed a readability level appropriate to high school students. The analysis of 144 unique websites in the “Cleft Lip” group showed a readability level appropriate for eighth grade students with 6 months of class complete. Conclusions: The information presented to patients on cleft care is too complex and well above the recommended 7th-grade reading level target set forth by the NIH and AMA, which hinders functional health literacy.
