To solve the problems of change design and massive work and low efficiency during Cast & Roll processes design, an expert database system for Cast & Roll process design of copper tubes has been developed. Knowledge reasoning, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Numerical Simulation, Uniform Design, CAD Parameterization Design, database and Intranet have been integrated into the system for process design and parameter optimization, which can exert the advantage of each technology. The design method has been proved to be successful.

The paper proposes methodology of feeder design and optimization for sand casting process. Casting part is a part of excavator buckets, i.e. holder of the cutting tooth. Process of design and optimization is based on the application of the rules, which are the result of many years of work researchers in the field of metal casting. Computer Aided Design (CAD) is used as a methodology in the design of feeders. Genetic Algorithm (GA) as an artificial intelligence technique is used in the optimization process of the feeder geometry. Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) is used as methodology that involves numerical simulation of the casting process. Numerical simulation is used to verify the validity of the optimized geometry of the feeding system.

This paper describes the traditional diesel engine cylinder block casting process on the basis, focusing on inline four-cylinder diesel engine cylinder block lost foam process design and optimization of application. Product pattern and pouring system model formed with expandable polystyrene beads, and assemble them into a model cluster, man can drying them after the model cluster dipping with the aid of manual or manipulator . Put the drying model cluster into the single sand box which with a negative pressure pumping system, a single dry sand rain-type sand system filling and compaction. Finally, to achieve the solidification of molten metal casting and forming under a certain vacuum.

During casting process design, CAD/CAE technology can play important role to avoid macroscopic irregularity, internal defect and assure casting performance. Based on the casting process analysis and gating system design, the numerical simulation of gray iron butterfly valve was done by hydrodynamic software Flow-3D to obtain its optimal process scheme. According to the simulation results including flow field, temperature field and defect distribution, the merits and faults of designed schemes were investigated and then the feasible gating system was proposed. The results showed that, compared with top or intermediate casting, when adopting bottom casting, steady flow of molten metal and reasonable temperature distribution could be achieved. And workpiece defects mainly distributed in riser. The predicted results are in good agreement with practical ones.
