Introduction. The existence of demotivating phenomena in the process of learning Arabic is very much felt by the instructor at this time, it can be seen from the low of the final result of students. Data Collection Method. Using a study literature approach Analysis Data. Using a descriptive analysis Results and Discussions. There is a positive correlation to the role of motivation in language learning. This is evidenced by several studies that say that motivation can improve the results of student learning achievement. In the research conducted by Nik Mohd Rahimi Nik Yusoff, Zamri Mahamod, Kamarulzaman AB. Ghani, found that the relationship between motivation towards proficiency in hearing Arabic and achieving proficiency in hearing Arabic (r = 0.613). This shows that the achievement of students in the ability to hear Arabic is somewhat influenced by students' motivation towards the ability to hear Arabic. Abstract Previous research has clearly documented that self-efficacy in language learning positively affects students′ performance in acquiring language skills. While much research has studied grammar efficacy indirectly as part of writing efficacy, none of these focuses on Arabic language learning. Considering the impact of self-efficacy on language learning, as well as the important role of grammar in Arabic learning, this study examines the relationship between grammar efficacy and grammar performance among students learning Arabic as a foreign language in Malaysian public universities. Specifically, it intends to determine the relationship between grammar efficacy and grammar performance among Arabic learners on three aspects: Correction of grammar errors, vocalization of words, and construction of sentences. Using a newly-developed questionnaire, 140 students majoring in Arabic language from a public university in Malaysia participated in the study. The questionnaire covers three important aspects in Arabic grammar learning: Correction of grammar errors, vocalization of words, and construction of sentences. This study showed a moderate correlation between grammar efficacy and grammar performance. Efficacy of sentence construction appeared to correlate the highest among the three aspects. Teachers′ awareness on the importance of heightening students perceived confidence in accomplishing grammar tasks will eventually promote better learning among students.

This study examines the generalizability of research in the areas of instruction; learning; and transfer of learning to the role these play in the area of the use of strategic competencies in foreign language contexts (FLC). While previous studies have tended towards a focus on learner variables, this study includes the conditions of applicability with a task that can impact learning and transfer as well. The contributions of both variables, learner and task, were investigated through note-taking strategy instruction and transfer, to ascertain the effect on reading comprehension of textual materials in the English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom. Learning was measured as a precursor to transfer. In order to investigate the role of instruction and transfer in the transfer of strategy use, a mixed design using both qualitative and quantitative approaches for design and analysis was used. Findings suggest that the relationship between instruction and transfer as represented by strategy use and task performance is a multidimensional one, and that there are implications for language learning instruction in the foreign language classroom.

Abstract The aim of this study is to point out the relationship between foreign language learning motivation and sign language use among hearing impaired Hungarians. In the article we concentrate on two main issues: first, to what extent hearing impaired people are motivated to learn foreign languages in a European context; second, to what extent sign language use in the classroom as well as outside school shapes their level of motivation. The participants in our research were 331 Deaf and hard of hearing people from all over Hungary. The instrument of data collection was a standardized questionnaire. Our results support the notion that sign language use helps foreign language learning. Based on the findings, we can conclude that there is indeed no justification for further neglecting the needs of Deaf and hard of hearing people as foreign language learners and that their claim for equal opportunities in language learning is substantiated.

This quantitative research study investigated the relationship between anxiety acquired through foreign language learning and learning motivation of Filipino students in Bataan Peninsula State University. Participants were identified through stratified random sampling. It adapted two sets of questionnaires: Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale by Horwitz, et al. (1986) and Foreign Language Learning Motivation Questionnaire developed by Gonzales (2006). Results showed that anxiety and motivation have a significant relationship with each other. Higher level of learning motivations students set for themselves manifest higher chances for them to develop consciousness and anxiety over their academic performance. They see L2 learning essential in employment opportunities, effective communication, and exploring foreign culture. However, their sense of interest to the course is primarily driven by extrinsic motivations which are only influenced by external factors such as the need to take the subject to pass a requirement. In return, they grow anxious and fearful of the possible consequences of being unable to achieve learning expectations and self-goals. While it is true that age does not significantly affect the relationship of the two variables under examination, it was found that females are more likely to exemplify a receptive behavior in learning than males. It is of high suggestion to integrate different strategies in teaching foreign language to minimize anxiety tendencies and maximize students’ engagement in learning. Also, it is recommended to devise or adapt a more context-specific questionnaire that will deeply explore on the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations of students and the anxiety concomitant to it. Finally, further studies are highly encouraged to be conducted to further navigate the interplay of other contributing variables in their foreign language learning experiences.

Language is used for communication. Pragmatic competence, which is essential in English teaching, is an important component of communicative competence. The development of pragmatic competence will enhance that of foreign language learners’ communicative competence. This study discusses the relation between pragmatic competence and language learning motivation. Results show that students’ general pragmatic competence is at a low level. Most of the subjects hold instrumental motivation as their dominant motivation. Significant correlation has been found between pragmatic competence and language learning motivation (r=.582; p=.000). According to the survey results, the author provides several suggestions on cultivating and maintaining learners’ motivation in their pragmatic learning.

This study aims to increase students' learning motivation using the Project based learning model in 4th grade of SD Negeri 2 Ngadimulyo. This research is a Classroom Action Research which was carried out in two cycles. Data analysis in this study is guided by quantitative descriptive analysis. Data collection techniques were carried out by questionnaires, observations and documentation. Data analysis in this study used quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of this study indicate an increase in students' learning motivation from cycle I to cycle II. The results of the first cycle of observations reached the sufficient category, namely 68% and 69% for the results of the questionnaire which were in the sufficient category. In cycle II there was an increase in students' learning motivation with good categories, the average percentage of students' learning motivation scores from both observation sheets and questionnaires were 80% and 81%.

Introduction : This scientific article is an article that discusses the Role of Raden Fatah in Islamization in the Demak Sultanate in 1478-1518. The background of this article tells how Raden Fatah was the founder of the Demak Sultanate and the first Sultan of Demak since its founding in 1478 M. Raden Fatah was a descendant of King Brawijaya V who was the ruler of the last Majapahit Kingdom of a Chinese princess. But Raden Fatah's childhood in Palembang was raised by his mother and his stepfather Aryo Damar. Data Collection Method : In this research article, researchers used historical research methods. Historical research seeks to reveal historical facts in the past. Analysis Data : The steps of this historical research include heuristics, criticism (external criticism and internal criticism), source verification, and historiography. Results and Discussions : The results of this study were that in Islamizing Javanese land, especially Demak, Raden Fatah and the Walisongo built a Great Mosque of Demak. The aim is to bring Islam to the hearts of the people of Demak and its surroundings. Demak Sultanate is increasingly crowded with martyrdom from several regions in the archipelago and abroad because it has good ports and produce. The Demak Sultanate wanted to Islamize the entire land of Java. But the teachings of Islam still maintain tolerance in religion and daily life. Walisongo's role such as Sunan Kalijaga in Islamizing Javanese society through Wayang and Gamelan art was vital. Many Javanese people finally moved their hearts to embrace Islam. Conclusions : The conclusions of this historical research are in the Islamization of the Raden Fatah Javanese community assisted by the Walisongo by promoting the element of local wisdom. Raden Fatah also maintains relations with Prabu Brawijaya V at all times of his own father. Islam developed rapidly in Demak and was able to spread in several regions of the archipelago.  Keywords: Raden Fatah, Islamization, Kingdom of Demak

This article presents an overview of action research conducted in an EFL university context, regarding primarily the relationship between individual possible self-images, socially constructed possible self-images, and language-learning motivation. The study used three cycles of action research over the course of one 15-week university semester, utilizing mixed-methods data collection and analysis. The results provide support for the assertion that initially inquiring with students as to their language possible self-images might assist the teacher to create more motivating lessons through self-enhancement activities. Furthermore, the article provides context-dependent evidence that assisting students to focus their language-learning possible self-images may positively affect motivation and bring a heightened recognition of self-regulation in language learning.

Abstract The role of literary taste (taḏawwuq adabī) in the learning and teaching of Arabic as a Foreign Language is an aspect needing further investigation nowadays, especially in non-Arab research environments. In this sense, the present contribution explores the debates on literary taste put forth by some significant Arab scholars and educators, and the resulting theories on the role of the Arabic language teacher and teaching philosophies. It puts them in connection with contemporary orientations in the field of modern language teaching (i.e. peer tutoring, holistic techniques and autonomy in language learning) not avoiding reporting some unique features (e.g. representation, good pronunciation, etc.) that enrich the discourse on literary taste and its implications in the teaching practice.

Abstract This study examined the mediating effect of perfectionism on the relationship between language learning and foreign language achievement of high school EFL learners. To this end, 400 eleventh grade high school students were recruited through cluster random sampling. They were selected from eight high schools in four cities of Iran (i.e., Tehran, Ahvaz, Semnan, and Kerman). Afterwards, two questionnaires were administered to the participants. The first questionnaire was the shortened form of Gardner’s Attitude/Motivation Test Battery (AMTB) for EFL learners, and the second one was Almost Perfect Scale-Revised (APS-R) measuring the level of perfectionism among respondents. Moreover, the participants’ scores on the English final exam held by Iran’s Ministry of Education was considered as the indicator of foreign language achievement. The obtained data were analyzed through Pearson correlations and bootstrap resampling statistical method. The results indicated a positive correlation between all variables. Furthermore, it was revealed that language achievement and language learning motivation were partially mediated by perfectionism.
