This research aims to identify politeness strategies reflected by the main character in “Bridge to Terabithia” movie. Qualitative method is used by the researcher to analyze the data. The data are the utterances of the main character that include politeness strategies. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses theory by Brown and Levinson (1987) about politeness strategies. The results of this research show that there are four types of politeness strategies which used by the main character in this movie. The most type that used is bald on record strategy and positive politeness strategy. The factors in using politeness strategies by the main character in this movie are payoffs in each strategy and circumstances (sociological variables). The researcher hopes that this research could give the contribution toward the next researchers. Moreover, some recommendations are given to the next researchers who will do the same research on politeness strategies either in the movie or in other forms. Key Words: Politeness strategies, Bridge to Terabithia

This research discusses about an analysis of the directive speech acts used in english speaking class at the third semester of english speaking class of english study program of IAIN STS Jambi. The aims of this research are to describe the types of directive speech acts and politeness strategies that found in English speaking class. This research used descriptive qualitative method. This method used to describe clearly about the types and politeness strategies of directive speech acts based on the data in English speaking class. The result showed that in English speaking class that there are some types and politeness strategies of directive speech acts, such as: requestives, questions, requirements, prohibitives, permissives, and advisores as types, as well as on-record indirect strategies (prediction statement, strong obligation statement, possibility statement, weaker obligation statement, volitional statement), direct strategies (imperative, performative), and nonsentential strategies as politeness strategies. The achievement of this research are hoped can be additional knowledge about linguistics study, especially in directive speech acts and can be developed for future researches. The purpose of this analysis is to identify dream interpretation of the main character, Conor O’Malley in A Monster Calls movie directed by J.A. Bayona. The method of this analysis is descriptive qualitative method. Sigmund Freud’s theory is used to analyze. The results of this research show that: (1)The interpretation of dream and the three stories in dream of main character are related to conflict that experienced by Conor.(2) The type of dream experienced by Conor is nightmare. Conor's  nightmare is a reaction to the illness suffered by his mother.

This thesis is entitled Nathaniel’s Ambition to Revenge on SimonLovelace Described in Jonathan Stroud’s The Bartimaeus Trilogy: The Amuletof Samarkand has an objective to analyze ambition and motive of Nathanielalias John Mandrake to revenge on Simon Lovelace as his enemy. Theresearcher used descriptive qualitative method to find out Ambition and motiveof Nathaniel alias John Mandrake after Humiliated by Simon Lovelace. Whilelibrary research method was used to gain any references dealing with the objectof analysis. Technique of analysis is divided into two, there are structural andpsychology approach. Structural approach was used to analyze structuralelements like general description, conflict, and setting, while psychologicalapproach was used to analyze and describe problems dealing with the object ofstudy. The collected data were analyzed by reading the novel. The researcherpresents all the data by the quotation through general description, conflict andsetting. The results of this research show that the main character is described asa person who is genius, clever, restless, arrogant, and curious. He belongs toround dynamic character since he has more than one specific traits and he alsochanges from the beginning till the end of the story. The main character alsoexperiences internal conflict about him admitting the truth about who steal theamulet, to disobey his master, blame himself and also external conflict againsthis master, Bartimaeus, Maurice Schyler, The Resistance and Simon Lovelace.The setting in this novel is divided into setting of place; Attic room, SirUnderwood house, Boarded-up building, Heddleham Hall, Small library andThe hall of Heddleham Hall, setting of time; morning in boarded-up building,10.15 am and setting of social on high social class. Nathaniel alias JohnMandrake’s ambition is motivated by humiliation and murder drives him to gaineverything that needs to commit revenge. The research is a pragmatic study on positive politeness strategies employed by the main characters in “ Greatest Showman” and “Chappie” films in the context of differences certain the century society. the researcher use Brown and Levinson’s theory of positive politeness theory. Politeness is the way of self strategies in communication to others, in order to received their meanings well. The objectives of this research are to find out the types of positive politeness strategies by main character in the setting 19th Century society (Greatest Showman film) and 21st  Century setting society (Chappie film) and to find out factors affecting main character to choice that strategies. The researcher used a qualitative method since the data engaged are displayed in the form of strings of words. The result shows that Phineas in “Greatest Showman” that can be conclude  in 19th century society, generally showed social class, kept family relation well, and respected for abnormal people. Diffrent with Deon in “Chappie” film that can be conclude in 21st century society, people concern with technology development, a lot of gangster who do the crime, and people communicate only in certain interests.Keywords: Pragmatics, Politeness Strategy, Movie Script

ABSTRACT This research examined the self-integrity of the main character in the movie The Ron Clark Story by Randa Haines. The focus of this research was to know the self- integrity through the portrayal of personality by using Carl Gustav’s psychoanalysis theory. This research used Jung’s psychoanalysis theory which focused on consciousness, personal consciousness, and collective consciousness. This research used qualitative method by taking steps using data collection, data analysis, and data presentation. The result of this research show that Ron Clark is a main character who has self-integrity because the personal consciousness and collective consciousness dominate more than his consciousness or ego. Key words: main character, self-integrity, psychoanalysis, and movie.

The purposes of this research are to find out the types of politeness strategies used to save the face of the characters in Once Upon A Time season 1 and to identify the dominant scale of social dimensions when using politeness strategies in Once Upon A Time season 1. This research uses qualitative-descriptive analysis method and to get the data needed in this research the writer did the following steps: watching the movies, transcribing the speech, searching the data, classifying the data, analyzing the data and drawing a conclusion related to the types of politeness strategies and the dominant scale of social dimensions. The source of the data used is taken from the serial film Once Upon A Time season 1 by Edward Kitsis dan Adam Horowitz. The results of this research show that there are four types of politeness strategies found in the serial film Once Upon A Time season 1. They are 10 data of bald on-record (28,6%), 8 data of positive politeness strategies (22,9%), 13 data of negative politeness strategies (37,1%) and 4 data of off-record consists (11,4%) and the most dominant scale of four social dimension scales is social distance scale 14 data (40%).

This study deals with politeness strategies in political language. The aim of the study is to describe how Indonesian politicians realize politeness in their language. The subject was taken nine parties who have representatives. They come from different parties: Democrat, Golkar, PDIP, PKS, PPP, PKB, PAN, Gerindra and Hanura. Data were classified and verified with reference to the criteria of politeness strategies as determined by Brown & Levinson (1987); cover the bald on record strategy, positive strategy, negative strategy and off-record strategy. The finding show that there were four types of politeness strategies used by Politicians in different of types of illocutionary acts; positive strategy, bald on record strategy, negative strategy, and off-record strategy. The most dominant type of politeness strategies used was positive strategy. The most dominant type was due to fact that speakers in interaction try to get closer the hearers. They use the group identity marker in addressing someone so there is no distance relationship between the speaker and hearer. They also gave the reasons when they speak in order to satisfy the hearer. Key words: politician; political language; politeness strategy

ABSTRACT This article explains the result of Sa’Unine String Orchestra as one of Indonesian orchestras in popular culture. Main idea of this research is to uncover and describe the characteristic, func- tion, and role of Sa’Unine String Orchestra within the popular culture in Indonesia. This research used qualitative method with ethnographical approaches to identify all facts that discovered during research. The conclusions of this research show that Sa’Unine String Orchestra moves in two ways, there are; the idealism which had a vision to create a real Indonesian string orchestra and a part of music industry. At the end, these two ways are connected to each other because of the earnings of those. Music industry becomes a support factor which create the idealism of Sa’Unine String Or- chestra to be an Indonesian String Orchestra. Keywords: String Orchestra, Music, Popular Culture.

The aims of this research is to understand the responsibility of Mickey Haller as a lawyer. By using descriptive qualitative method, the writer will describes all things in the movie itself. The data were collected from some sources, such as books in library of Senayan ,Library of STIBA Nusa Mandiri, Google books and Website. The writer found the result of analysis about an interesting character from Mickey Haller as main character. Mickey Haller is a lawyer with high responsibility in his work. It makes him never give up on solving the case at hand. Mickey Haller is known as a lawyer who can acquit his clients from criminal penalties although most of his clients are criminal such bikers, con artist, drunk drivers, and drug dealers. Besides Mickey Haller was responsible for the work, he is also responsible for the safety of his family. He protects his children and ex-wife of the evil people who do not like him. Hedonism is a view of life in philosophy that seeks to avoid pain and make pleasure as the main goal in life. People who embrace hedonism tend to over-pursue pleasure. The hedonism lifestyle is mostly carried out by 18th century people especially the nobles who live in high culture. They are as close to hedonism as they are in the Persuasion novel by Jane Austen. Sir Walter Elliot the main character is a nobleman who did a lot of hedonism. Hedonism which is seen as too glorifying personal pleasure to ignore others. The purpose of this study was to find out the types of hedonism done by Sir Walter Elliot in Persuasion. This research uses descriptive qualitative method because all data are in the form of sentences. The researcher uses a philosophical approach and analyzes data using Weijers' theory as the main theory. The results of this study found that Sir Walter Elliot performed two types of hedonism, namely aesthetic hedonism and selfish hedonism.
